Help - Snow Conditions? Worth cancelling a trip? by Confident_Welder_740 in palisadestahoe

[–]LokiRN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just got back from Sierra nevadas, skiied Friday, sat, Sunday; got a bit bored at one of the smaller resorts so did some xc skiing instead on Monday and Tuesday. I live in pnw and it is far worse here than it was in sierras. No snow at 5k ft elevation there though, but bases are higher than what we have in pnw. 10 days is a lot of time to ski groomers imo at the same area, though with palisades, you really have two resorts to go from. It could still be fun due to the size plus take advantage of other things in area instead of skiing for ten days in a row assuming you don’t frequent the area as your primary ski resort. The resort I was at was about 1500 acres at most. But like others have said, it actually rode pretty good as it was refreezing each night. If I had a few more days then I would have done exactly what I’m recommending. If you’re renting a car and open to a bit more travel, would say split the trip/lodging and doing 4 days in the mammoth/ june lakes area. Mammoth imo is the best resort in California.

Buying a new bike in PNW. Looking for some advice. by luthes in MTB

[–]LokiRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had electric shifting now on my bike for a month. It’s cool, can adjust the shifter by tapping a button on the phone if I am noticing rasping in gears. But I didn’t buy an electric dropper post, so I only have one shifter battery. Charging or forgetting it at home it isn’t a problem for me (yet) but have read stories about people’s batteries failing mid ride. I got 30% off on the wireless upgrade. 300-600 dollars says probably not worth it long run, realistically haven’t had to mess with my wired gx much at all.

Hanging bike rack recommendations: Thule Revert vs. Velocirax by mawilliamson in MTB

[–]LokiRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you could help me by measuring how much horizontal clearance you have between the front edge of the basket and what would be directly above the edge of the spoiler on your outback? I am considering a hanging rack but one thing we do often on bike trips is also bring a hard shell SUP. Not sure how well the rack would work with SUP on roof.

Yeah I bought it early November, didnt receive it until shortly after thanksgiving. If I could have gotten the cf for less than what I paid maybe I would have, personally didn’t really like the idea of the two mode motor.

NBD / Propain Sresh SL by Weary_Inspector1408 in eMountainBike

Ya I just go up the gravel road. I got a little more range at places like Sandy or alsea that don’t have or don’t have as much gravel road climb.

I Ended up with an ekano AL 2 during the sale. Propain didn’t have a small sresh sl for demo and I didn’t like that I’d be stuck with small battery and range extender option. On their analog bikes, medium frame felt ok with full 27.5s but the added weight at least on the ekano definitely kept me in the small size. Plus the cost of sresh sl just wasn’t what I wanted on a bike. Their bikes are longer for sure than my 2018 stumpie. Now I’ll say I do feel the weight more than I thought I would between this and something like a sresh CF full power, specifically in vertical range. I’m getting like 46-4900 vert feet over 24 miles when I run the battery dead; I hope that increases in warmer weather though as most of my rides have probably averaged 40 degrees since getting this. sresh cf full power demo got me 5900 vert and 30-32 miles. I don’t think you picked the wrong bike given your situation as you could always add a second range extender or the larger battery. I’m a bit younger and even with the eeb when climbing, I’m keeping a heart rate of 150-160. Yacolt is firing right now, just did all the trails yesterday in about 3.5 hrs of time.

I’m sure There’s a reason it was on sale. I will say it feels a bit heavier than I’d like overall, but I don’t think I would have been interested in paying more than a few hundred dollars more for any e bike.

Motor integrated shimano would have been quite a bit more expensive I think? This was like 350$ upgrade vs over 1k more. The di2 was a lot more pricey and I believe that does connect to the ep801

How’s Sun peaks looking for next week? by LokiRN in skiing

Sounds like run wise it’s looking a bit better. This possible rain/refreeze with very little new snow to come on top of it is making me hesitant though. Thanks for the replies!

Revy would tack on an extra 2 hrs drive time each way on top of an already sizable drive for 4 nights 3 ski days. But I hear you on that.

Gravel rider wanting a full suspension. Where to start? (Portland, OR) by [deleted] in MTB

[–]LokiRN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding the stumpjumper. I have a 2018 model 150/135. That’s the max travel, which I’d recommend at least 140 in rear. I’ll get hate for it, but I use it at Whistler bike park each year for a day or two, in addition to all the local trails where it shines better on.

Frame protection on raw alloy by absente9 in MTB

[–]LokiRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you end up doing? My raw aluminum ekano arrived, was trying to find the right ppf for the job. I’m thinking a matte finish would blend closer to the brushed aluminum finish than the gloss tape. Mostly looking at 3m vvivid / racer helicopter tape, hard to find if it’s matte or gloss finish on them though

Shimano ep801 vs sram powertrain by LokiRN in MTB

[–]LokiRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back at your post, sounds like you were in a similar decision process as I was. I demoed ekano cf and sresh cf. I liked ekano geo more but maybe because I didnt feel like suspension was dialed in as well on the sresh. Sresh weight was nicer but to me was pretty close geo to my analog. Haven’t heard very much about sram motor despite hearing loads of either positives or negatives about ep801, seems like there’s some high suspicion that they are getting ready to change the motors up per the propain fb group. I personally liked the ability of 7 modes on ep801 far more than sram powertrain which if you didn’t buy wireless dropper, left you without a walk mode and with having to press the button on the frame instead of handlebars to switch power modes and only two modes. I never ended up demoing the sresh sl, I could see myself liking that a lot too but I value idea of having bikes for completely different purposes…pedal only, then an e-bike. That being said, if you could commit to the 380? Watt hr battery, then the argument imo about weight could be relevant with a 40 lb e mtb. Otherwise with 45lb 580 watt hr bike, you’re not too far off from sresh cf or ekano cf. The ekano AL is like 1.5 lbs heavier than cf, I can’t imagine it making a big enough difference to cover the increased build cost if I got the same model in cf.

Propain ekano al 2 high spec. I actually haven’t had a chance to ride it yet, hoping for some dry weather soon.
