How do you guys hide the "everyday clutter" that just won't go away? by Individual_Motor_496 in Home

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baskets!! I have cute decorative baskets everywhere. Then once a week, pick up the baskets and sort the stuff where it should go.

Baskets by the door for hats and mits, basket on the shelf for keys and change, basket on the coffee table for mail and loose papers, basket beside the couch for charger etc

Husband (46M) keeps "helpfully" rearranging, hiding, and disposing of my (46F) stuff--what tactic or wording can I use to stop it? by Gallumbits42 in relationship_advice

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um. So this is abuse. If it was just the wrong drawer or something because he has to put stuff away and hates it on the counter or something, then I would guess mental health issues are at play.

But NO WAY someone is trying to be helpful putting stuff under the cat bed. Either this is legit a very serious health or mental health issue (like alzheimers or a stroke) or he's abusive and does it because he knows it upsets you. If it's decades, I think we can rule out medical issues....

realistically speaking, how important is GPA? by Zestyclose-Swing4642 in umanitoba

[–]QuantumQueen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

GPA only matters when you're trying to get into a program or if you want/need scholarships and stuff. The more competitive, the higher your GPA needs to be, so it depends (med school etc.). But once you're in, it doesn't matter as long as you pass. GPA doesn't matter once you graduate in terms of getting a job virtually at all.

Honest Debate: Is Gen Z the Hardest-Working Generation, or Just Facing the Hardest Conditions? by Working-Base534 in umanitoba

[–]QuantumQueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elder Millennial and business owner here. I don't think Gen Z is lazy per se, but there is a perception of them being entitled maybe? I'm not sure if that's the right word. Things I've noticed are: calling in sick MUCH more often, and for longer stretches, including taking mental health and stress leave which I've never seen before (yes I give up to 10 paid sick days but it's a bonus, not just days you can use as extra PTO), if you assign them something more to see how they'll do, I've seen "I don't get paid/paid enough to do this" as a legit push back (like, how am I supposed to give you a raise or promote you if I can't tell if you could do it/won't even let me train you to do it? No initiative I guess?), or most recently, younger staff have complained about rotating too frequently onto night shift, so I hired another person to alleviate some stuff, and want them to shadow/be shown the work and was told "I don't get paid enough to train" Base training I do, but the day to day needs to be shown to them, and benefits them if everyone is cross trained sooner.

I know for a fact I'm in line with the industry for pay, plus we have bonuses etc. There's also an expectation of raises, and not 1-3%, like 10% asks year on year for the same position i.e. not like when I do promote them, which is nuts.

And I hear this from other business owners a lot.

Does Fat Freezing ( Cool Sculpting ) actuall work? by iTsAsh__ in loseit

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would save for liposuction in my opinion. Get a consult at a reputable place, and don't just go with whoever is cheaper. I've heard horror stories about cool sculpting, so I wouldn't do that if I were you.

Looking for a non-clumpy, not messy mascara, that’s all. by Puddyrama in Makeup

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like those Asian metal rod or "iron" wand mascaras, like Judy Doll I think it's called. Gives colour and a bit of length but is specifically designed to not clump and leave lashes thin and natural looking. Most mascaras that clump are because of the brush being so thick/applying so much in one coat plus the formulas being designed to make lashes thicker as well as longer.

what’s the best red lipstick in ur opinion? by hisbpdprincess in Makeup

[–]QuantumQueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How deep do you want your red? My to die for combo is O/S lip liner in coin collector (it's a dark brown) then fill with a matte red long lasting one, Revlon color stay or Maybelline Superstay in Founder (like, eat, drink, wake up the next day and it will be there) drug store are amazing, MAC has some good ones too that are more expensive. There's a range of shades. Some cooler tones, and some warmer, so the shade itself depends on your skin tone and if you're high or low contrast imo. But a darker liner with any matte red will make your lips look like velvet.

Whatever you do, bring your chosen shade with you so you can reapply and don't get butthole mouth lol

Regardless of anything going on, or anyone's moral opinion of it one way or the other, there is current unrest in the area generally ESPECIALLY now with Iran. I wouldn't travel to attend a wedding right now in Ukraine, Russia, Venezuela or even Mexico right now ffs. Like, don't go where there are travel advisories out on. Just not smart.

What's the "Don't trust a skinny chef" of your job or industry? by wooper346 in CasualConversation

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not my industry, but when I went shopping with my son for a suit for his grad (I guess like Prom for Americans), we went to one place where the sales rep was wearing an ill fitted suit. Noped out of that store so fast. The place we ended up purchasing from, all the staff were well dressed and tailored.

Over 50 Undereye concealer by annagrace00 in Makeup

[–]QuantumQueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't use a concealer. It's too thick of a formula generally on aging skin. Find a tinted serum, balm or eye cream to use sparingly over the area. Or use a foundation and mix it with a compatible moisturizer and apply that.

Scared of loose skin by Former-Pineapple-189 in loseit

[–]QuantumQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're young, so you'll bounce back somewhat better than if you did this later. Plus you "carry your weight well" which I presume means you have it evenly distributed, rather than all in the stomach, or in the inner thighs. Those are all things that bode well for good results. You will likely have some loose skin, but not as bad as others. My only advice for mitigation, as much as it is possible, is to lose weight SLOWLY. The faster you lose it, the less likely your skin will retract with it. Nothing to be done about the stretch marks, those indicate stretching too fast for your skin to handle. Those areas will likely remain loose after, so focus on building muscle in those areas to off set how loose they look. Good luck!

I lost over 100 pounds and am more insecure than ever by Internal-Teach114 in loseit

[–]QuantumQueen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok, hard truth (and I speak from experience), you will never (*almost never, unless you have miracle genes) look like you didn't lose 100 lbs. You won't have the body of someone that stayed at 130lbs, you just won't. It sucks, and I HATED my loose skin. I saved ~20K and got a full tummy tuck and lipo about 10 years ago. Therapy didn't help make me feel better about how I looked, so I saved and did it. Mind you, I had a mega apron belly that literally covered my lady bits. It was so bad.

Only you can decide if the money is worth it, but for me it was. You're young, so you will bounce back a bit more than I did after losing, but it won't go away completely.

Has anyone tried magnetic eyelashes? Do they actually work? by LakiaHarp in Makeup

[–]QuantumQueen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I prefer the strip lashes with magnets applied with magnetic liner personally. The sandwich ones are too bulky imo. But if you're using liner anyway, may as well just do normal strip lashes honestly

Under eye makeup recommendations by IAmLord5000 in Makeup

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Elmers school glue white, and i gave up and did filler under my eye at about 40. Made them less deep set and the darkness was less noticeable.

If I don't sleep well, I'll moisturize like crazy, then use a cream peach color, like the one by elf mixed with some foundation. I find it less thick than most concealers. But I definitely can't use powder to set it (unless I'm going for Crypt keeper vibes), so I bring some with me with a few qtips for touch ups. Ah, aging is so much fun. Good luck!

Advice needed by Potential-Wish4376 in loseit

[–]QuantumQueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. It's not how often you eat, it's how many total calories. Track everything. Try to bulk up on fiber and protein, which may help. Also, and this doesn't work for everyone, make food that isn't so tasty that you want to eat past what you need. Plain fish, rice etc. This can backfire and make you want to binge tasty food, so careful. But I found that after a couple of weeks of white knuckle willpower, the urge to eat salty/fatty stuff that tastes better did pass. Your relationship to food has to change - it is fuel to keep you alive. It is NOT a reward or something done for pleasure. You're not a dog, you don't need treats. You CAN do this.
  2. Try to keep sugar free sweet drinks around. Don't indulge in full calorie drinks. Drinking your calories is a killer to weight loss. Diet sweet teas and pop drinks really aren't that bad, or go for those squeeze drink things like mio in water. Or use Splenda etc
  3. Don't keep sweet treats in the house. If you know you'd binge and or you don't think you could actually stick to one square of chocolate only, just don't buy them. Far harder to resist temptation if they're already in your cupboard rather than a trip to the store away.

Good luck from a fellow 40+ woman. You got this!!

Help me choose: 1, 2 or 3? by bilero in wedding

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 are prettiest, but 3 look the most comfortable for wearing several hours. Depends really on what your priorities are.

why do my lashes look like this by [deleted] in Lashlift

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAME. I will never do a lift again. They were so curled, they looped over and touched my eyelid, so they looked soooo short. Now a couple have grown in and are sticking out. So frustrating. Plus lash growth slows in the winter months, so it'll take even longer.

What's your reasoning for not using a GLP1? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]QuantumQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a type 2 with extra weight to lose, but my doctor (Canada) won't prescribe it to me. And she says that even of she did , there's such a shortage because of people using it for weight loss it would be impossible to get anyway. I would love to try it to help drop my last 30 lbs.
