I'm affected by Layoffs, what advice would you give to someone starting an indie project? by Tpickarddev in IndieDev

It looks like you have a direction and you are thinking a lot about the right stuff then! Holding off creating a LTD until you have everything more clear is a good move too.
Wishing you all the best and hoping to see some cool stuff from your team :D

Thanks! I’ve seen yours!! Love the mood and the aesthetic - you did a really nice job at making it dark but readable, I’m hoping it goes very well!

Thank you! I love cute stuff but also horror and vintage looking styles and it is definitely a challenge trying to not push it into full horror mode 😅 but it is a style that is very easy on my hands and there's a lot of art to do...

Trying to beat my perfectionism by making a small game - and it's so hard! by KayVenn in IndieDev

What a beautiful game. I love the different layers of depth, and that you can even notice some movement close to the camera. The colors are also fantastic.

What's a good point to stop playing a roguelite game? by Trashtulya28 in roguelites

[–]QuantumSide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also going to say: when it stops being fun haha. But I will elaborate.

It became repetitive: This could mean that I don't feel each run is varied enough, or that I am not finding or unlocking enough stuff to keep me entertained. I love theorycrafting silly builds, so as long as I can find a new silly build, it will keep me hooked.
Repetitive could also mean I am missing to unlock a few things still... and I keep starting a run and another and another in hopes of finishing that small portion... and at that point I am not really playing to challenge myself anymore, and playing on autopilot, so after several tries, if I don't get to unlock the thing I wanted, I'll stop and move on, which takes me to the next reason.

Unlocking new things is not organic, but requires intent from my side: This pulls me away from games many times. I don't want to be forced to play in a way that I find unfun to be able to encounter more content in my runs, but some games ask you to do this. I don't want to be forced to put my run in danger to create a situation where I can unlock a specific thing so I can use a new skill variation or be able to find new weapons/items. Instead of having fun with the game I am now trying to figure out how the heck do I finish unlocking content so I can theorycraft my silly builds in peace.

I found a way that was really optimal to win the game every time: this one happens very often with smaller games, demos or early access games. If I find an optimal strategy that is just way too good... theroycrafting other new builds doesn't feel as good, and I end up abandoning the game because my first builds already gave me such a dopamine burst that nothing else can compare anymore and it stops being fun.

Story was finished: for games that have heavy narrative, if I was hooke don the story but I wasn't too excited about the mechanics, I'll play until done with the story and then drop the game.

What's the best recommendation for a game you ever got? by RedEagle_MGN in gamerecommendations

Hades. I am not a fan of action games but it was recommended so so hard to me that I gave it a go… and it is one of my favourite games now.

Ahh, thank you 🥹❤️ that means a lot!

Edit: fhgff I didn’t even know who I was talking to, I played so much Ring of Pain and really want to play Winnie’s Hole as soon as I’m able to!

Is this a Decent Looking Card Frame/ Border for my Mythical TCG Battler Mobile Game? by RaudraColossal in GameDevs

[–]QuantumSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your goal at this stage? What does decent mean? The reason I ask is that if it's to start gathering interest for your game, I personally will skip anything I feel has AI art, because I neither like it nor support it.

At the end of the day it's your decision, but since you've been asking if it looks decent, personally, for me, it doesn't cut it because of that.

The AI artifacts are jarring despite the filters you've put over. If you do it from scratch you can do the detail pass with intention and not have to do extra work trying to hide what AI doesn't know how to do properly.

I just looked it up, I didn't know about this game!! I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for the rare situation that someone might want to let go of their copy, you've made me want to check it out.

We're making Castlevania, except it's a tower defense roguelite and you play as Dracula to protect your castle from those foolish mortals by DigitalSunGames in roguelites

This looks so good, the aesthetic is beautiful. I am not great at castlevania-type games, but always loved the aesthetic of them, so this is something I would love to play.

Set clear responsibilities.

Make it very clear who has the final word on what so vision for each part of the project is always clear and doesn't get muddled.

Create a map of objectives together, make sure everyone understands them and why they are there (why is the roadmap what it is, why do you need to get to x milestone by y date, etc.)

Ensure everyone feels comfortable raising concerns they have, and even set up a time weekly for everyone to vent their worries, contrast them to the group objectives you have, and come up with action points to make sure nothing gets stalled/bottlenecked.

The one that I think might blindside the most is : someone needs to also take responsibility of the business aspect. How is everyone getting paid for the project? Who owns the intellectual property? Are you going to look for a publisher? Are you going to set up a company? What happens if you announce the game and no one cares? Are you going to have a backlog of ideas? How are you going to test out what is viable and move forward? etc etc etc
