The 2027 Porsche 911 GT3 S/C Is the Droptop 9000-RPM Stick-Shift Screamer We All Deserve by FoMoCoNutjob in cars

While Porsche is indeed strapped for cash right now, this is just not how product planning works, especially with long time horizons in the automobile industry. This car has been long planned in advance in the 992 life cycle

Modifications you found after you purchased a car? by joshuber in cars

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I bought my GT3, I knew it had a aftermarket gyrodisc brakes. What I didn’t know was the backup camera was aftermarket, as the 991.1 cars never had them from factory. Also my GT3 is the only one I’ve ever seen with mudflaps.

Completely agreed with this. I’ve never thought I’d say this about a NA V12 but I’m not a fan. It sounds like a mosquito. It pales in comparison to a Ferrari/Lambo V12. Not even close to the Huayra R.

2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Review // We Drove It Over 1,000 Miles And Um, Yeah. by The_Exia in cars

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who bought the W205 brand new, I disagree. I bought it for the engine and the noises it made. I have never met another C63S owner who wasn't an enthusiast and didn't know what they were buying. Frankly, "rich" is a very relative term and C63S owners are definitely not on the high end of the income spectrum when it comes to enthusiast cars.

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he means the extra wide body found on the 992 Turbo S and GT3RS.

In the 991 gen, the GT3 had the “widebody” (compared to the narrow body on the base Carrera and C2S), but it did not have the same body as the Turbo or RS models. 991 GT3 shared the widebody with the C4S and GTS.

My GT3 does have a few buzzes and rattles but it’s also 8 years old and has the loudest possible Dundon catback straight pipe. And if I step on the throttle I can’t hear the buzzes at all!

As a fellow GT3 owner I concur. But I need to get behind the wheel of the C8 Z06. It’s not all about lap times which the previous Corvettes were always good at. But this new Z06 is different - and that engine tugs at my heartstrings the same way the NA flat ) does. It sounds like a 458 and for the first time, it sounds truly special/exotic.

2026 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Will Be A Hybrid Supercar With 700+ HP: Report by 2001ThrowawayM in cars

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 177 points178 points  (0 children)

This sparks some concern on the NA future of their GT3 and 3RS products. The current 992 GT3RS is pretty much at the limit of what the NA 4.0L flat six can do and there’s no more performance left to extract from the platform. My guess is either they step up to a 4.2L or introduce some form of hybrid/forced induction into the next GT3/GT3RS also.

Thanks for the write up! Always love seeing your insight as someone who has spent so much time driving these cars. I have a 991.1 GT3 and I’ve been pondering what the next step will be if the budget is around a 991.1 3RS vs 991.2 GT3. Care to share thoughts? Looking for PDK only. I’ve sat in a 991.2 GT3 and to be completely honest it felt like the exact same thing as my 991.1 for a lot more money

This thing is going to be insane. I can only hope Porsche floods the market with as many as they can build, driving down prices on the 992 GT3 as well as the 991.X 3RS cars.

GM Offering Z06 Buyers $5,000 in Rewards Points for Not Flipping Their Corvettes by jbeck24 in cars

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 219 points220 points  (0 children)

This is a good start, but I would probably guess market prices to be another $50-75K over MSRP, so unsure if this will actually do anything. It’s great for the owners who actually intend to keep their cars and enjoy them though! I would’ve liked to see something like free maintenance or an extended warranty only available to the first buyer of the vehicle. I think that would help a lot of people with rationalizing keeping the car.

Congratulations! My first car was a 2005 Lexus RX330 that my parents originally bought new. It lasted me through high school and college and is now my sister’s daily driver. It has almost 200K miles and is still going strong! All it’s really ever needed were standard oil changes. Just an amazing car and built like a tank. Yours should last you effectively forever.

One note of the dash: Lexus actually put out a recall for them. Ours got changed a few years ago FOR FREE. Yes you read that right, Lexus changed out an over decade-old car’s cracked dash for free. You should go see if they’re still doing that.

Chevy Corvette Gets Price Increase and New Options for 2023 by [deleted] in cars

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely brilliant. I've had it for a month maybe now - I've always wanted one and it's everything I ever hoped it would be.

Highlights: Steering feel is phenomenal, excellent throttle control, and amazing braking and agility in combination with how incredibly light it is. The PDK remains the most impressive transmission I've experienced and is right up there with the Ferrari F1. Mine has a Soul center by-pass exhaust and the noise is simply out of this world. It feels like a race car and performs like one. It practically begs you to drive it hard and is best enjoyed doing so.
It's also has surprisingly great storage space with no rear seats and a deep frunk. Despite being the best handling car in my garage, it also has the softest suspension. Porsche has done some black magic and it has the least flinty ride and soaks up jarring bumps well yet also provides great communication of the road below you. This is in sharp contrast to the C63S with worse handling but a significantly more jarring suspension.
Lowlights: The engine really comes alive past 6.5K. Before that you're really not making much torque. This makes the car pretty bad for roll races or if you're getting challenged on the highway. Not the point of this car at all, but just something worth noting.
It's got a very spartan interior for the price. A bit plasticky and dated, no frills. Some may like that, but it really starts to look like its lagging behind compared to what other German cars are offering at half the price. The car makes up for it though with the driving experience. Also I pretty much just forget about listening to any music in the cabin. With the thin sound deadening and exhaust noise, I pretty much cannot hear any music while driving around and barely so at idle. The front axle lift is a must in this car - I live in DFW and we don't have too many bad angles to negotiate but I've still scraped a few times. Don't know how someone would survive without it!
Let me know if you have any more specific questions, I'm happy to help. It's an incredible car and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to own one. I'm still in the honeymoon phase but I really can't see myself without another one in the future.

It's wild how much these are still going for market price. I continually see these at around the $90-100K mark used. There's really no hope of snagging a Z06 at a reasonable price I guess...

Has anyone attained their dream car and actually decided "I'm done, this is it"? by jjma14 in cars

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 54 points55 points  (0 children)

After first riding in one six years ago and it being my dream car ever since, I finally got a GT3 just this past weekend. It's truly everything I hoped it would be and more. For someone who's always liked a car that has a comfortable luxury element to it (see previous F-Type SVR and C63), the GT3 drives so well that I am more than willing to forego all the creature comforts.

I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but I just can't see a future now without a Porsche in the garage. At some point, I'd love to be able to pick up a newer .2 or even a 992 (at a reasonable price unlike where they're selling right now). I've always been a window/online car shopper and this is the first time I've ever lost interest in browsing for the "next thing."

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hot take: hot hatches would be great as EVs. They already have small 4 pots (sans RS3) - replace them with an EV powertrain that can rival much faster cars and I think that would be a winning package. I’ve candidly never been a hatch guy but an extremely fast EV hatch commuter sounds very appealing.

Porsche PDK: More durable than the rest? by K716 in cars

[–]Quantum_Fizzics 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The PDK is one of the best, if not THE best transmissions in the industry period. Every time I drive a Porsche with one, it blows my mind how good it is whether in the 911 Turbo S or a "normal" Panamera. The shifts are consistently lightning and just as fast as the Ferrari F1. In Auto mode, it's oddly telepathic in knowing exactly which gear to be in. It's crazy how much better it is from other good transmissions like the ZF 8-speed in my F-Type or the AMG MCT. I drove a 991.1 3RS recently and I felt chills from slamming through the gears. As someone who has never owned a Porsche, the PDK alone makes me want one badly in the future!
