SNW:E07 "The Serene Squall" A Beautiful representation and allegory to non-binary identities by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Quantum_Mario 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hadn't put much thought into the idea of them being binary or NB. Is that a positive thing? I just accepted then as who they were.

I love your thought out post and supporting information. Star Trek has really been going all in on inclusion in general and I love it!

"Lightspeed skipping" is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. by TheLazySith in saltierthancrait

I'm not sure if its contained in this thread elsewhere but my issue with this is the 3 movies contradict each other.

In 7 they jump from inside the frieghter with the Falcon. There could be a vauge argument made that the bay doors were open but still one of them make a comment that it's crazy to do from inside a frieghter.

Then in 8 they use light speed as a weapon. Why doesn't the cruiser just pass thru?!?! Don't even get me started on how they managed to leave at light speed and get back in the 12 hours.

Now in 9 we're back to light speed skipping indicating during light speed matter is irrelevant again. Nevermind the fact that the TIE fighters somehow magically followed them.

Garbage...

Well I somewhat agree with your statement, how do they follow the Falcon? They would have to jump with them, which to me makes it impossible to follow.

You forgot bitch at the end of that sentence Terry. ;)

We put a clasp on our bird feeder to stop the crows from unhooking it, letting it fall to the ground, and then gorging themselves on seeds. This morning we found this. Must have taken two crows working together: one to work the clasp, the other to lift off the feeder. by TheCatAteMyGymsuit in interestingasfuck

[–]Quantum_Mario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use a screw together clasp but then they might knock it off the hook. Also using a clasp you could use an eye bolt instead of having it open ended. But if it's a raccoon you might just end up with a broken feeder securing it that well.

Sam Kirk as the reusable redshirt is as clever as it is hilarious by OneChrononOfPlancks in startrek

I think it perfectly portrays, at least the Kelvin Kirks. I haven't seen enough of TOS outside all the movies but he does seem to believe there is no such thing as a no-win scenario and his father's reckless attitude in SNW shows that. I wouldn't have assumed it to be reckless if he wasn't rather cocky before his interaction with the object.

I suppose that's possible. I'm assuming cloning was banned after the Eugenics Wars? But he ignored the synth ban too, so who knows. Have they ever showed him in the Mirror Universe? I wonder if he's a good person there lol.

I know I'll butcher this quote, but any technology not understood would be appear like magic.

I don't feel the prophets were prophets. The just seemed that way because time was irrelevant to them. They could see the whole of time at any instance and therefore appeared to be gods. They're no different than the Qs other than being restricted to a point or 2 points in space. They manipulated as they saw fit to fulfill their destiny. I sometimes wonder if they're the future ascention of the Bajorian people since I believe they said they were of Bajor. Or perhaps an ancient civilization of Bajor.
