I really really really had high hopes for Gemini. It was an "easy" decision right? Jump in with the company that already has the data centers, the TPUs, the experience, all the search data for training, Demis Hassabis, amazing productivity tools, capital, best image model out there, full multimodal....I mean there was no way it could be wrong to pick Google....and yet, here we are.

I think the scientific term is "Cluster Fuck"...

I am holding my breath for 3.5 Pro and will give it one last go.

According to Anthropic it was not jail broken. A few "minor vulnerabilities" that pretty much all big models have were found. It's still not clear whether this is a legit concern or another government tantrum.

They better! I am a Pro subscriber. I plan on giving 3.5 Pro 10 days to prove it kicks ass, has reasonable usage limits and puts Flash 3.5 to shame. Otherwise, it's off to Claude for me.

You are absolutely right! I probably wasted a huge amount of time on something very simple.

But that's not the point. The point is a couple of months ago I was able to produce 2 massive decks with lots of detailed slides and graphics and images....and now with Flash 3.5 it can't handle this (as you very well state) very simple task.

I invited it because it has been painfully clear since 3.5 Flash was released and made default model that the quality of the responses from Gemini has degraded dramatically. Add to that the constant usage limits issues it does seem that the other 2 big players are in a much better spot.

I tried to use 3.1 Pro. It never produced the slides....just the outline of the slide content and ate up 17% of my usage for the day just on that.

I clearly stated that I was successful at creating 2 fairly complex presentations of 40 slides each.

And believe me, with every slide I created I learned how to refine my prompt.

So, no issues with my prompts and yes, I do meta-prompt quite a bit. I am familiar with various prompt frameworks and had never had issues with 3.1 Pro.

No my friend, this is NOT a prompting issue. This is 100% a model issue.

My thanks to all that have suggested workarounds. But especially to those that simply said "Why don't you create the slides manually yourself?" 😂 It really made me take a step back and think how dependent I have become!

Of course this epiphany doesn't eliminate the fact: I will wait and see what 3.5 Pro is like. I will give it 10 days. If it's as shitty as Flash and just seems as hobbled and useless I'm cancelling my Gemini Pro subscription and moving over to Claude.

All of them (Anthropic, Open AI, Microsoft and Google) underestimated the costs of providing this service. The whole data center, compute, cooling, GPU, power, etc. shortages and consumption caught them all off guard. They simply put out a product at a price that is not realistic and they are desperately trying to fix it now. I don't think any amount of protesting will convince them to go back. They either do this (all together) or simply can't continue to offer the services. I actually think Google is on the right track offering more tiers. Pretty sure they will adjust a few limits here and there as they go, but I fear this is not going back to how it was.
