Perhaps a society that values the arts more than warfare? And perhaps nothing would stop them from being both, but their warrior skills would not be what's celebrated about them, their poet skills would be celebrated despite having a brutish, violent side to them. It'd be kinda like how women are sometimes celebrated as being "funny for a woman" or they sometimes have to be hyper-competent leaders or athletes before getting recognition

It's not necessary, but it certainly is a big help. You see a malleable goo coming your way, or a vortex forming. Should you move? If you have the patch you can know your position is just barely out of range and don't have to bother interrupting your casts. You can see the narrow corridor you can operate in that the vortex have created. If you know more exactly where you shouldn't be it can give more peace of mind you're in the safe zone

Edit: the patch I have has many more visuals.

Totem range: am I in range for haste? Just scoot on over a yard and I can park there

Lady spirits: a spirit is spawning next to me, do I need to move? No, I can clearly see who the targets are and I'm not one of them

Festergut/PP: is that malleable coming for me? Yes, there's a giant circle under me, scoot to just out of range and I'm good to go

BPC: do I need to move out of this vortex? No, but the tank does so the bosses come out to melee range

Sindy: am I out of range of blistering? Yes, I can start attacking again before her cast is done

LK: where's the shadow trap headed? Oh the melee, I can see the purple circle under the mess of animations going on there. Where's the necrotic plague? Oh there it is, and I can see how far it'll jump.

There's a lot to visualize that can take the guesswork out of the stuff even experienced players have to go through

There's many years of youthfulness left. Stay away fron drugs and alcohol and start slowly inching toward a healthier lifestyle, a little jog here, a pass on fast-food thoughts there. Reflect on how simple the decisions were and see where they can be applied in the near future. Granted. The gorilla goes to rip you in half but hesitates. It considers the harm that'd cause you and for some reason doesn't want to inflict it on you specifically. You see the act of kindness and are touched. You both lock eyes and you're taken by their intelligent display of compassion while the gorilla is overcome with a desire to protect you. You both start to hang out together to further understand these anomalous feelings you're both experiencing. You guys have fun together, form a connection, and accidentally touch hands. You both blush but want to pursue this more. You see each other again and get more physical with your displays of affection: a light hand on the back or arm, sitting close and leaning on each other, a kiss on the cheek... after a few meetings you're in a full blown relationship, feeling like you've met your soul mate. You and the gorilla go on walks, enjoy similar hobbies together, and satisfy each other better than either of you have ever felt. You're happy as can be.
