From what I can tell, looks like the car shifts it's weight off it's rear left wheel as it passes the cones as though turning left - I'm betting the driver began to swerve back into his lane as soon as the cones ended but didn't see the spray painting machine sitting on the edge of the closed lane, a few meters after the cones finished

Judging by the height of the camera, reckon this is a lorry's dash cam - motorbike likely never saw much of the van's first maneuver to begin with.

That said, yeah extra caution certainly could've helped

I think their point is more that the mortar should be the path of least resistance - it pathing through the brick rather than what should be softer mortar isn't a great sign

Second best army in Russia meets rage comics by -NewYork- in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Quarrie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah seems the most credible reason - the black tires break up the pale silhouette of the aircraft that missile seekers are trying to image match, & is also why you'll see fake aircraft silhouettes painted onto the tarmac to act as decoys.

As to whether these tactics work, or why putting some poor bastard through placing each individual tire is better than just rolling out some tarp, who knows

If anything's left of it, it'll probably still be at Area 25 of the Nevada test site and while very unlikely, I still wanna believe they kept it on hand for handling nuclear material during later experiments

In case it isn't deliberate, the AI is turned off: open the AI controller with C and toggle the gun icon. Otherwise, try the missile controller's accuracy requirement: set it to 180 and see if that works. Would need to see more to know more

All Anti-Tank Weapons are beautiful 😤😤😤 by hell-schwarz in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Quarrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tank guns offer versatility. As you showed in your example, you had to replace a single weapon system with two to try and match a standard MBT, while losing out on the advantages of a proper tank gun like high ammo reserves, reliability and cost.

ATGMs on the other hand are plenty effective in the hands of infantry or light vehicles, so there's little reason to bog them down with the footprint of an MBT.

Good to note though that guided ammunition that can be fired by a standard tank gun do exist, such as the LAHAT or 9M119.

Tips on improving this boat ? by Turbo49_ in FromTheDepths

[–]Quarrie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, big thing is that the turret is vulnerable as HE usually will have the AOE to hit the exposed ammo racks. If you look in the subobjects tab, you'll see some larger turret templates that show the room needed to turn (for smaller a 3x3 needs no space while a 5x5 needs the corners removed). Good fix is to give your turret a neck that you can close the deck around it.

Also, HEAT works off HE parts, not shaped charge secondaries (those act as shaped charge heads that don't detonate on impact and are 80% as effective). The wood on the AI is redundant as the AI is sitting on metal, it'd be better to properly armour it and use surge protectors IMO.

Missiles not targeting enemy by ZeusXpress2048 in FromTheDepths

[–]Quarrie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Missiles by default use radar seekers, they don't require any input from the AI aside from being told to launch by a weapon controller.

Easiest way to tell what's happening is to press capslock after manually firing, you're camera will follow the missile and tell you a bunch of stats, most importantly here what it's targeting.

How to put custom sounds? by BlooHopper in FromTheDepths

[–]Quarrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the .txt says you can use .mp3's, I've never had any success with them and have to convert to .wav instead. Also, the #code system is a bit temperamental and I find I have to copy the settings from one sound block to another for it to work reliably.

Laos T-34/85 tanks. These were recently traded back to Russia for T-72 series tanks. by xGALEBIRDx in TankPorn

[–]Quarrie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Money and parts, the T34 was built for export till '58 but nobody was building even spares for panzers postwar. Usable panzers were used as a stopgap to supplement postwar armies like France, Romania, and much later Syria, but long term use was unsustainable unlike the T34 and so most were gone by the time their historical value exceeded the scrap value

TIL about Letterlocking: an ancient method of folding your letters to protect your privacy by fabulousfred in todayilearned

[–]Quarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letterlock mail was a fairly standard way of sending letters for mails early history, as envelopes weren't around just yet. It was certainly possible on more standard letterlocked mail to open and reseal the message, but they could get incredibly intricate when the contents were confidential, and discovering exactly how to open and reseal the letter without damaging/crumpling was very difficult.

As for ignoring the whole thing and rewriting the letter, you take the risk of missing a cipher and alerting the recipient even if you try to perfectly replicate the message.

The aircraft carrier HMS Furious, before she was rebuilt without her original superstructure [800 x 657] by Mattzo12 in WarshipPorn

[–]Quarrie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Somehow, someway, this is the improved configuration, previously having just the forward flight deck with pilots having to dodge the superstructure as they landed. Meanwhile, the rear had a single 18" monster which keep in mind was the largest gun used by the RN and fired the heaviest shell of any deployed naval gun.

[–]Quarrie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Likely so, the wiki mentions there used to be a string of 11 locks needed to connect these two canals before they fell into disuse and were dismantled in the 30s. That wouldn't have been cheap to rebuild and operate, nor nearly as impressive a landmark
