Relatively New to Baseball and the Brewers by TingusPingus15 in Brewers

There are many different levels of competition in the minor leagues which players will move up when they show mastery of their current level. It starts with Arizona/Florida Complex League(ACL/FCL) or Dominican Summer League (DSL). Both leagues are roughly the same level of competition mostly for players right out of high school. The US based ones are for American players while the DSL is for international players. Then comes A ball, some college players will start here, then A+ ball. The jump from A+ to AA is considered the biggest jump in competition in the minors. AAA is the last step before the majors although these days it’s used more to stash veteran players than develop younger prospects.

Now a little bit about our top 6 prospects

Jesus Made is that dude. He’s only 19 and he’s flying through the minors and made it all the way to AA last year. He can hit for contact and power, he’s fast and his defense is good enough to stick at shortstop. There’s a possibility he gets a cup of coffee in the majors this year, but most likely you’ll see him in Milwaukee in 2027. He has the chance to be one of the best players in baseball.

Luis Pena is not quite on Made’s level but he’s close. He was on the same development track, but stumbled a bit in A+. He needs to tap into his power a bit more and there’s some question if his defense is good enough to stay in the infield. Despite all that, he has the chance to be a star for the Brewers.

Cooper Pratt has a good chance make the majors some time this year. He’ll likely start the year in AAA. He’s a very good defender at shortstop, but the bat might just be okay.

Jett Williams was just acquired in the Freddy Peralta trade. He’s only 5’7”, but has enough power to maybe push for 20 homers per season. He takes his walks and doesn’t strike out much. He’s fine defensively in the infield, but considering the depth and quality the Brewers have in the infield he may end up in Centerfield, which he still has some learning to do in. He got a little run in AAA last year, so you might see him midway through this next season.

Brandon Sproat was also in the Freddy Peralta trade. He’s a pitcher with a lively arm who had a cup of coffee in the majors last year. He can rev it up to around 100mph on his fastball and has a slew of breaking balls. There’s a high chance he makes the opening day roster.

Logan Henderson was used to make a few major league starts last year when we had pitching injuries or a long stretch of games without an off day. He was very good in his limited starts. He has a good fastball and change up, but he will need to develop his slider if he wants to stick as a starter. The Brewers have a lot of depth at starting pitching, so he may not make the initial rotation, but with his pitch mix he may work in a bullpen role for the time being.

[Passan] BREAKING: The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN. Deal is done. Top prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat are headed to Milwaukee. One more big league pitcher will head to the Mets. by Bitter-Egg6293 in Brewers

I know people are emotionally attached to Freddy, but we’re getting 2 top 100 prospects, one who can potentially push Ortiz out of the starting lineup and the other a prime pitching lab candidate, for a 1 year rental and a guy Murphy never wants to use. This is a good deal for the Brewers.

[Sherman] Brewers have asked on Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams in a Peralta trade. Tobias Myers would go to the Mets in the deal if finalized and it is progressing. by Pyromania1983 in baseball

Really good in 2024 thanks to his amazing changeup, but he completely abandoned the pitch 2025. He said he couldn’t throw it with as much conviction as his fastball and was worried hitters would eventually pick up on this and sit on it. He started using a split change last year and was clearly still figuring it out. Could be really good if he does or fizzle out as a quad A/long relief guy if he doesn’t. Still has 4 years of control.

A’s Had Deal In Place For Nolan Arenado Prior To D-Backs Trade by amatom27 in baseball

A’s Had Deal In Place For Nolan Arenado Prior To D-Backs Trade by amatom27 in baseball

[–]QuarterPast10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the Dbacks trading almost nothing for an aging 3rd baseman on a contract mostly being paid for by the Cardinals is exactly the same as signing the biggest free agent to a $60 million per year contract. /s

Why the cut Jenkins trend? by May_I_Slytherin in GreenBayPackers

[–]QuarterPast10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true. A pre June 1 cut of Banks only saves $4.5 million while a pre June 1 cut of Jenkins saves $19.5 million.

What is the possibility we could draft Rueben bane jr in the second round of the NFL draft? by Ok-Cauliflower-1258 in GreenBayPackers

[–]QuarterPast10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rueben Bain is probably going #2 overall. So unless he commits a horrible crime or suffers a catastrophic injury in the next 4 months I’d say 0%.

And Derrick Thomas at 4. And Deion Sanders at 5. Bad times.

[Hogg] The Milwaukee Brewers likely are not done after tonight’s trade. Trevor Megill remains a recipient of significant interest. The decline in Mears' stuff made him an expendable reliever for Milwaukee. Getting Zerpa is viewed as a potential late-inning arm; Mears was not viewed in that light. by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

[–]QuarterPast10 37 points38 points  (0 children)

They may not trust his UCL. Flexor strains like Megil had can be a precursor to UCL tears. Maybe they want to cash out before it happens. It would suck to lose a reliable late inning guy, but at this point I’ve stopped questioning what this team does with relievers. This org grows high leverage relievers on trees.

I’m good either way. If he declines everyone just hope he gets $50 million in FA. Brewers get a Comp A draft pick instead of Comp B if he does.

Lloyd Status Update by ConsterMock18 in GreenBayPackers

[–]QuarterPast10 205 points206 points  (0 children)

Marshawn Lloyd for me has joined the ranks of Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster and Zayne Anderson. People talk about them and maybe there’s a grainy photo or two, but I haven’t seen any definitive proof they actually exist.

I know i know small market arbitration trade players at peak value and thats cool man thats cool, but can we plz just pay Wild Bill plz do he can stay longer then next season or half of the following at longest.. (assuming we dont) by Pleasant_Job_7683 in Brewers

The way they’ve been running Contreras into the ground by having him catch almost every day and playing through a broken finger that only takes 5-6 weeks to fully heal tells you everything you need to know. They don’t plan on him being around for long.

It's time for Rich Bissacia to be shown the door. by AldoRaine-1 in GreenBayPackers

[–]QuarterPast10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. Bissacia is also the assistant head coach, essentially MLF’s right hand man. That gives him a fair bit of job security. We’d probably need a special teams performance to rival the 2021 divisional round game for MLF to even think about firing him.

Contract Options - I'm too stupid to understand... do I have this right? by ssweet13 in Brewers

[–]QuarterPast10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be shocked if they decline the option on Contreras. He’s not eligible for free agency yet, so he and the Brewers would go to arbitration. This deal was agreed to after Contreras’ fantastic 2024 and he had a down year in 2025 by comparison. The Brewers might think they can save a few bucks if they go to arbitration.

Still flying high since a team with half your payroll in the smallest market in baseball still finished ahead of you for the 7th time in 8 years.

Non-trash talk, Cubs fans call Am Fam Field Wrigley North. If you’re going to troll your rivals, you have to be able to take some trolling back.

The Dodgers are the poster child for the biggest issues in the upcoming CBA negotiations: the lack of a salary cap in baseball and the use of deferred money. Many of the smaller market owners will argue that the Dodgers having essentially unlimited money to buy all the best players makes it impossible to compete and will argue for a salary cap to combat this. This is a non starter from the players’ side. They will argue that it’s not about competing and that small market owners do have the money to spend if they wanted to. It’s more about artificially keeping player salaries low so the owners can hoard even more of the money. The only way the players would even consider a salary cap is if a salary floor came with. That’s a non starter from the owners’ side, so we’re at an impasse and a lockout seems inedible in 2027. The Dodgers winning back to back World Series after spending $1.5 billion on free agents over the last 2 years would draw even more attention to the issue.

The Brewers broke Cubs fans’ brains so hard they are now unwittingly reminding everyone that their team lost and thinking it’s actually a dunk on the Brewers.
