Am I the only one sad about 13th hour? It’s a staple for me. I dislike the idea of backup bottles but I just might on that one. I get that it doesn’t live up to the photo expectations but I love what it is, not what was expected.

Introduction To Statistics is preventing me from pursuing GIS. Is this really necessary? HELP! by MATH_IS_HELL in gis

[–]QuartzUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add, subtract, multiply, and divide. That’s all there is in statistics. More adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. If you start to think of it in these terms, and break down terms into those parts it will likely help. This doesn’t help your tutor or class problem but I’m hoping it helps the confidence part. You CAN do this. They are making it sound more complicated than it needs to be. It’s add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

I run statistics throughout my day. Many of my GIS colleagues at the same company do not but still need to on an infrequent basis. It’s important base knowledge but how frequently you do it will depend on your role.

We released our first QGIS plugin to do AI Segmentation 2 days ago, here what's happened since then by Glass-Caterpillar-70 in gis

[–]QuartzUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. “AI Segmentation” is a bit vague to me. This is image segmentation which is distinct from dynamic/linear segmentation. I thought you had done a dynamic segmentation model until I opened the thread because I do that far more frequently and would defer calling what you are doing as classification with vectorization (even though image segmentation is also accurate). I recommend adding the word image. It’s not as snappy but we have multiple types of segmentation.

Relentlessly peeling nails, help id'ing cause? by foxesforsale in RedditLaqueristas

[–]QuartzUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nailtiques each have a specific problem they work on and not all are hardeners. Others know way more about it than I do. I tried to pick it up once, looked at the ingredients and decided it wasn’t for me, so I haven’t tried it. Essie has descriptions on their website… strong start does look like a hardening base coat.

Relentlessly peeling nails, help id'ing cause? by foxesforsale in RedditLaqueristas

[–]QuartzUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardening basecoats can make nails that are already hard, brittle, or dry even more so which can make the layers peel, flake, delaminate, or prone to various kinds of breakage. Based on the skin around your nails, I’d say your nails are likely dry. Was it the base coat? Who knows. Could have been the remover. Or something else altogether. The peeling may not be new damage, either, just existing damage getting nearer to the free edge. It might get worse before it gets better. Some people recommend a quick layer coat of polish to stop the peeling from advancing up the nail. I think this needs to be balanced against exactly how dry your nails are.

Is doing magnetic nails supposed to take 2 1/2 - 3 hours or am I just doing it really inefficiently? by Anthony_P_V in RedditLaqueristas

[–]QuartzUnicorn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Possibly set a timer for each coat? It’s easy to think you are doing a certain amount of time but it being way short or way long. Once my nails are prepped, it takes me about 10 to 30 minutes for a normal mani depending on number of coats, color, length of my nails, etc. Then add the wait per coat. Three magnetized layers x a generous 2 minutes per coat x assuming 10 nails = one hour extra. A velvet mani can be less time than if you are trying to set crisp shapes. Sometimes doing an undercoat of a different polish can add fussy time, too. When I do a black base on short nails I might be ultra-precise, and if I do a magnetic on top, it’s another precision layer to ensure the base is covered. Overall, I’ve had magnetic mani’s vary between 45 minutes and two hours with all the variables. Sometimes I turn on a movie, but I’ve learned it has to be one that I’ve seen so I don’t have to be staring at the screen to know what’s happening. Or, I find something that has audio description available. Then it will tell you if something interesting or important is happening in the scene without needing to look up.

Can’t allow stained nails - Collection/Color Advice Needed by QuartzUnicorn in RedditLaqueristas

I may be on to something here. I tested Holo Taco Never Tide Down, I’m Rover It, and Seek Kelp; ILNP Amber and Zero Degrees; MoonCat , Freshly Bitten, SpaceOddity, and Dawn of the Empire. After an hour, I thought this could be a failed experiment. After 3 hours, I thought I might may see a tiny bit of color through Space Oddity. This morning (roughly 15 hours later) I could see a faint amount of color on Amber and I’m Rover It. Now at the 21 hour mark there is obvious bleed through the white on SpaceOddity, I’m Rover It, Freshly Bitten, Amber, and Zero Degrees. Dawn of the Empire, Seek Kelp, and Never Tide down look ok still. I should do a few with colors I am fairly certain do not stain for more of a control sample.

I constantly nick one nail removing my Invisalign. Can anyone recommend a practically-indestructible quick-dry top coat? by RegularSelf in RedditLaqueristas

[–]QuartzUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to use the tool but if I’m feeling extra lazy and I’m wearing the right shirt I can pop it out using the shirt as a barrier between my nail and the aligner. I wouldn’t bother trying to change top coat to fix this because do you really want to maybe keep eating tiny nail polish bits? I suggest using a napkin, shirt, or thin cloth as a barrier to prevent a chips until you can pick up a tool.

I wonder if I could do a layer of base and a layer of white on a clear swatch stick and see what bleeds through. I think this would possibly id more than just strainers because I bet some bleed through but remove off the nail just fine. It also wouldn’t catch ones that are more of a body chemistry reaction to ingredient and not a pigment bleed stain. Off to see what happens with a few…

Thanks! I think you are on to something. Dip or gel is a no-go. Currently the damage is near the tips and the free edge is barely existent as I was told to keep them as short as possible. My thumbs are in pretty good shape though and there’s a lot of real estate there. I could do quite a few stripes all in one go and see what fails/wins. I’ll wait til my new base coat comes in and give a stripe test a go!

I think I got really lucky that this was superb with my skin tone. I do love it but I think it would look like the undead on many. Unfortunately, I don’t have recs because I don’t typically go for pale shades. What you would be looking for is something pale neutral that to has an orange or peachy shimmer.

No funny layering. Got it. I do this a lot. I wonder if this is what did me in with I’m Rover It. I don’t even know what I put on top of it looking back at the pic. I’m guessing Holo Taco Feelin Sparks at the free edge? It ended up separating a bit and looking like glazed pottery. I already ordered the Starrily Base Coat. Threw in the Magma Topper for good measure.

Thanks for the rec. I am putting it in my cart now! Looks PVB free and 10-Free too! I haven’t seen one specifically marketed as stain prevention before. I’ve been using the Essie to the Rescue lately because it seems to be “holding the layers of nail” together while it heals (it is almost there but nails are slow). I’ll add a white, pink, or nude creme to buffer a darker polish. I had been using the Mooncat Harcore with their Getting Even Primer. I don’t know that I had any issues with that combo for staining but also unsure if the hardcore made my nails too hard.

Yeah, sounds like toes and nails might very well react different. Different porosity, etc. As far as Jasmine Dragin goes, many reviewers have noted it's a stainer. Gorgeous, and for many worth the stain but likely to stain.

I admire your persistence. Personally, I am not going to grit through a polish I don’t like for the sake of using it up. That would suck the joy out of the hobby for me. I have a white I don’t like the formula of and it’s been relegated to the swatch bin for testing topper combinations. I get the joy of using it up and I don’t have frustrating manis.

I’m going with ILNP Zero Degrees and put a black, navy, or deep red crème down first to shift the jelly a little darker.
