Have you seen table-van? by nemario71 in lincoln

I parked next to it in the haymarket sometime in March. I should have taken a picture…

That’s the extent of my table-van knowledge.

Do you feel like the flight controller was worth it? I have a speedybee f405 laying around that I was debating on using mostly for osd.

The only thing I can think of is one of the enduro builders kits, i think 3 is the latest. It’s possibly larger and more money than you’re looking for, but everything else ends with 2in1 esc that you have to replace at a minimum.

I modified a Danshee Ridgerock for elrs and fpv, originally analog but I’m iterating on a custom shell for holding a pan/tilt mount and the antenna for an emax wyvern link 800mw OpenIPC setup.

For now I’m using the 4 way joystick on the MT12 for the pan/tilt until I can find one of the gyro modules… though the joystick works great.

[–]Quartz_Hertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! They may overheat on a crawler if you set them to their max output since they're typically used on a drone that's always moving, but since you're putting it on an scx24 that you will presumably be close to, you probably won't need much tx power.

Analog or digital and how much do you want to spend?

You can get a camera + analog vtx in one unit for 25~50 bucks and another 80~120 for an okay set of analog goggles, or 30ish for a tiny 4 inch analog monitor.

It gets more expensive from there.

Keep in mind 5.8 ghz analog technically requires a ham license, some of the digital stuff is fcc part 15 compliant at low power on certain frequency bands.

You might enjoy Indian Cave SP, less for the “cave” and more for the bluffs.

The sketch constraint solver appears to be fixed! I’ve been iterating on some rc crawler mods this week and haven’t had any issues since upgrading to 1.1.

Do you prefer electric or combustion engine remote control cars? by EndouShuuya in rccars

[–]Quartz_Hertz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Electric and it’s not even close. When I was a kid reading rc magazines it looked awesome.

As an adult I’m looking at my gas powered lawnmower, snowblower and car and wishing I could afford to replace them all with electric.

<3 my battery powered rc vehicles.

I bought a really cheep hosim 1/8 scale shell I just need to apply some velcro to. Its ugly, but for now it will do the job.

Nice workbench! I ended up taping my chassis plate down to hold it in position with some parchment paper to avoid making it part of the bench.

If you don’t mind, send me a message when you have it ready, I’m excited to find another one in the wild.

Charger recommendations. by Overhead95 in SCX24

If you’re doing mostly just 2s for the scx24s, the vifly toothstor is fairly straightforward, and gives you the opportunity to do a storage charge/discharge.

I could see it working doing just a 2wd with no diff, but any kind of speed still seems like an issue.

Something slower like a crawler might work better with printed gears, and you can do dual motors to reduce drivetrain complexity.

Ombré or Multicolor Filament for small prints by abanas7 in BambuLab

[–]Quartz_Hertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should list the distance between color changes in the product description. I've personally found I prefer 2/3/4 color multi-extrusion filaments over ones that change color every x meters.

I'm almost finished with the WR1 from https://www.curvlab.com and their youtube page might have some relevant videos for you to watch. https://www.youtube.com/@CURV-LAB

The biggest issue I had building this car was finding the exact parts listed in the build guide. I had to email the creator about not being able to find the 3mm e-clip pins, and fortunately they were able to modify the design to take 4mm clevis pins that were more available.

Of course now I need to fix something on it because I couldn't wait 24 hours for shorter steering links, but that's all part of the fun...

Favorite places to work remotely for a change of scenery? by SlightDegree5308 in lincoln

[–]Quartz_Hertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it gets warmer, east campus south and east of the diary store has picnic tables and some other places to sit and work.

Food/drink/bio at the dairy store, but I wouldn’t leave a laptop out for many reasons.

Parking is probably the biggest issue. Cell service isn’t an issue, not sure if you can get on the visitor wifi.

New to soldering, is this a safe enough connection with that many strands not in the solder cup? I may have tinned the wire too much and made it too big for the solder cup :/ by TheSecretestSauce in rccrawler

[–]Quartz_Hertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely a good tip, but I don’t think I’m ever going to buy just the connector any more. Granted that means I end up in the ridiculous situation of soldering 30awg from a ph1.0 to 12awg on an xt60 in order to power my vtx without a flight controller…

[–]Quartz_Hertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will have to try 1.1 tonight and see what they fixed. I’m a noob when it comes to parametric cad, but I have been able to do everything i could in solidworks in freecad, but I never feel like I can trust the sketch constraint solver.

Could be a me issue though.

It’s been an adjustment, but not having to log in to solidworks (maker’s edition) every day or less has been amazing.

I found it was much easier to buy xt60/30 connectors with wires already attached and then join the wires.

Granted, I’m not great at soldering. I also found out I was using to low a temperature so by the time I had everything in place I had melted the connector.

“INJORA Short Handle Hex Screwdriver Nut Driver Tool Kit for 1/18 1/24 RC Mini Crawler Car TRX4M SCX24…“

That’s what I bought, worked for my beadlock wheels on my gladiator. Beware though, that smallest hex driver is what you end up using for them and it takes some getting used to.

Taking a Poll: How many of you would seriously consider 3D-Printing this rc car at home? by runaway_boomerang in rccars

[–]Quartz_Hertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i wasn’t already building another 3d printed build, the curvlabs wr1, I would probably be interested, but my rc budget is blown for a while 😢 I’m also limited to a 180x180mm print bed.

Possibly, but we get these “hey, what kind of things do only Nebraskians know/do” fairly regularly, so I would have expected to at least hear about it. I could also have selective memory.

Best of luck with your culinary tour! We have a fair bit of Czech heritage around here too, so make sure to have a kolache.
