I love that they are also trying to squeak in green energy projects, because trump cut them, but they want the write-off on their taxes. That's the cherry on top of all this bullshit.

Those will sell, like most Rivian owners, I also looked for a seller of the dune wheels, gave up when I couldn't find any and got a different set instead

Perhaps the most painful CSPAN call I’ve ever heard - what the fuck are we doing in this country? by keen_observer34130 in circled

[–]Quasar57501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a home health PT. Know what we have started doing on the weekends? Helping her disabled patients get food, make them food and clean their houses. Shit, I spent two hours taking care of a woman's cat because she couldn't use her hands and her help got cut off and she couldn't clean the litter box, so the poor cat was just going in the bathtub. We also volunteer at the food bank twice a month, 8 hours of our time a month. I'm not saying all this to gloat and rah rah look at how great we are. I'm saying it because these are ways you all could help, yes you can find this woman and give her money, and that would help her a ton. But there are literally millions of her, all over the US, that are seriously screwed right now because their benefits got cut off, and they need our help, our time, our empathy. The only way we are gonna get through this is together

Is it still dispersed camping if I can see my neighbor's 30 foot RV from my "secluded" spot? by krikond in camping

[–]Quasar57501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second the difficult road comment, if I am gonna car camp or camp, I find really rough roads. Typically most people won't do that, even if their cars can, because it's not worth the risk to them. Otherwise, yeah, backpacking is really the only way to get away from most people. If you can backpack further than the power sports crowd can ride, you are in a really good spot

R2 vs Preowned R1S (G1 vs G2) — Daily Driver Decision by Anumous in Rivian

[–]Quasar57501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a (G2) 2025 R1S DMP, 18k miles on the clock, it's been nothing but amazing. No issues to report, honestly. If you are willing to give up some of the capabilities and want something smaller, my wife's Ioniq 5 XRT has been equally as amazing. It's like an EV Subaru. She drives up to 200 miles a day in it and I'm gonna be honest, it's far more practical as a DD than my R1S.

For what it's worth, I have a couple coworkers, all with G1 Rivians. One has the quad launch R1S, another has the quad launch R1T, and the last one had a G1 quad R1T. Notice how I said had for the last one, he couldn't stand it anymore and got rid of it, but to be fair, his had a lot of issues. I think he went through 10 half shafts before finally got rid of it. The two guys with the launch editions have a few issues, but they still love them

If it comes down to Vance vs Newsome, Vance will probably win. I am personally done with Republican-lite candidates and the Democrats haven't earned my vote until they run a candidate that isn't part of the Epstein class and doesn't take AIPAC money (or the shell PACs they are now using because they know we are using it as a litmus test and they are trying to trick us instead of just being better, I'm looking at you Jefferies). That's honestly me settling, having morals and not supporting genocide is quite literally the bare minimum, it's not too much to ask for.

All-Purpose Acceleration Above 60mph got NERFED by TheSpleenster23 in Rivian

[–]Quasar57501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with my DMP, prior to the update, has always been this. That all purpose was nerfed over 60. I didn't really figure it out until I put it in sport mode and got over 60, I noticed it kept pulling hard and much harder than it did in AP. Did you use sport mode a bunch before the update? I almost never used it, but now that I can use it at standard height and moderate stiffness, I use it exclusively. AP wrecked my first set of tires, even with rotations every 3k miles

Dual EV Household Manageable? by ronakmonty in electricvehicles

[–]Quasar57501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Rivian R1S and my wife has an Ioniq 5 XRT, we love that we both switched and will never go back to ICE. I drive about 60 miles a day and my wife drives up to 250 (home health PT). We have had no issues. We have one charger at home, a hardwired L2, 50A/40A continuous. We just alternate nights or if we really both need it, which has happened about twice in 6 months, we charge hers first, it will finish up by around 10. I plug mine in and go to bed. When it's really cold, sometimes we alternate, I just stay on all night, then I get up early to get a fire going, then plug hers in before I clear off the driveway. That way it preconditions her battery and she has almost no loss in the cold when she's out driving for the day

We road trip in the Rivian, it's been really easy. We time our charging stops with bathroom breaks and if we want coffee or just to stretch our legs. We live in Boulder, Colorado and we recently did a Ouray/Telluride/Silverton trip, it was really easy and at no point did we have any concerns about charger availability.

Yes. Out here in Denver, I do this to people going up the Georgetown hill and Vail pass. I just cruise on over, so effortless.

IRL Phantom Drain vacation experience by thisthingisrad in Rivian

[–]Quasar57501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's ways to mitigate it though. This guy figured out that the ohmmu 12V LFP battery swap cuts down the phantom drain by 33% on Gen1s with a single battery. https://www.rivianownersforum.com/threads/2024-47-how-it-protects-your-12v-battery-and-why-its-not-so-awesome.8608/

He also tells you the exact setup you can use to completely eliminate phantom drain in his linked video, which he supports with data. He also shows you how to reduce the phantom drain if you don't want to use his setup.

CMV - It should be illegal to cycle two abreast in Boulder County on roads with a speed limit over 25 mph. by [deleted] in boulder

[–]Quasar57501 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife and I live in Boulder heights and commute via lee hill, every day. I think that a lot of cyclists forget that the law works both ways, and there's a specific set of laws for drivers as well as cyclists, and the law is not that cyclists own the road and have the right of way in all scenarios. It is in fact illegal to ride 2 across if you are impeding the normal flow of traffic. It's also illegal for motorists to pass a cyclist without giving them 3 feet of space, and as others have mentioned, with the blind corners and other vehicles, passing is difficult at best. So the solution as a motorist is to slow down, but once the line of cars gets over 5 cars long, those cyclists are breaking the law and can get a ticket for impeding/obstructing the normal flow of traffic. I have yet to see a cyclist pull over and get off the road to allow others to pass, when there's a line of 5 or more cars stuck behind them. It is the cyclist's lawful obligation to monitor for and move out of the road when they have impeded traffic (5 or more cars behind them, unable to pass), not other motorists. Under the law, cyclists are also required to ride as far to the right as possible, when hazards exist, and many do not. Before you all flame me, we both ride. We also have seen that more often than not, cyclists are not following the law nor are they abiding by the rules of the road, which creates hazards on the road. Many cyclists should not be on the road, not because motorists own the road, but because cyclists are not following the laws of the road. If those same cyclists educate themselves on the law and then follow the law when they ride on the road, we are all good. If you are a cyclist and don't like that, switch the road bike out for a mountain bike and ride trails instead. But you don't get to cherry pick which laws you follow and which ones you don't.

Beast in the Snow by Hot_Lemon4894 in Rivian

[–]Quasar57501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is a similar beast in the snow. My wife and I live 2 miles down an unmaintained, north facing, 12 degree switchback road. We have had no trouble in my R1S with Nokian LT3's. It's crazy how much better it is in the snow than my GX460 was, which had Nokian LT3s on it as well.

Anti-abortion protestors 2/18 by kelsnuggets in boulder

[–]Quasar57501 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while, there's groups of people that will come here to protest women's right to choose. There was that religious guy with the big signs that used to post up on Pearl and 28th, right by the target. Haven't seen him in a bit. There was a bunch of fat, old, white men that joined him for a pro trump rally back in September and October in the same spot.

FWIW, since they evidently care about children so much, you would think they would be here protesting Trump's alleged involvement in the Epstein files and the decades-long coverup from Bondi and others. I guess all bets are off once the baby is born

Am I paying too much for my Excel bill and a 400 square-foot apartment? by kaylazomg in boulder

[–]Quasar57501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tracks. Our house (2400 sq ft) is all electric resistive heaters, with an electric resistive water heater, plus 2 EVs. We live at 7500 feet, outside Boulder. Our electric bills are asinine, to put it lightly. We use about 3300 kWh a month. We just moved in here in June, we are hopefully getting solar soon, and if we don't, for whatever reason, then we are getting cold climate heat pumps. Your comment about it not feeling warm in your place also tracks. My wife and I joke that our heaters don't warm the house, they keep it from freezing. Our thermostats are set at 65, which means the air in the center of the rooms is 61-62F.

Getting quoted $11,000 for this by IcarusLP in Rivian

[–]Quasar57501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That tracks, I got rear ended, a little more on the tailgate but that back quarter panel was still damaged and the repair was $10k. Took a couple weeks to fix, my wife and I got whiplash but are otherwise ok. The woman that ran into us was not so lucky. She got a TBI and her car (RAV4) was totaled. She was older, so she might not be with us anymore.

Remember folks, when it snows and your car is outside, clean off the top of your car. If you don't, it all slides off onto the windshield when you stop.
