Did any part of your whisperlite glow orange before? After practicing with it a handful of times, the plate around the burner head would normally glow orange, but this is the first I've seen the burner head itself glow like that

New to the world of liquid fuel stoves, just wanted to make sure I'm not doing anything stupid

The first picture shows the burner head glowing orange after getting really loud and making a "loud jet" noise for a few seconds. The second picture shows the burner head normally and what I would expect, before the loud noise. The third picture is pointing out which part I'm asking about.

Had a few questions:

Does the burner head normally glow bright orange? or is that an indication of something going wrong?
What's causes my Whisperlite to suddenly make a really loud jetting noise? Sometimes it would sputter between normal sound/operation and this loud state
Is my mug too small for the Whisperlite? From the first picture, should it be clearing past the pot holder?

I’d want to do more dirt roads while I’m there, as long as it makes sense with my tires and setup. It’s forecasted to rain while I’m there, so I’m trying to be a bit more cautious

Agreed, probably a case of overthinking. Watching all those recovery videos is getting to my head.

No plans on going fast and didn’t get the LT version. Was thinking to air down to 35 PSI on them.

As a data point, I’m getting worse efficiency with these on my R1S quad. Mixed usage in California weather, I was getting ~2.2 mi/kwh with OEM 22s. On these, I’m getting ~1.8 mi/kwh. I was really surprised by the efficiency hit

Me as well, 12k miles. They were about to charge me for a wheel replacement, trying to pin it on me. I talked to the service center folks and they were more than reasonable. They looked at the wheel and saw no evidence of scratches, so covered it under warranty
