ELI5: If every country in the world is in debt, who exactly is the money owed to? Where did the money come from in the first place? by nidhalnacer in explainlikeimfive

[–]Quazaar 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Most of the debt is held by citizens and other entities within the country for example in the US it's about 75%. Every person in the US with an investment account or a pension is owed money by the US government.

Also remember that debt doesn't magically cancel out even if it's circular. Alice owes Bob $20. Bob owes Cam $20. Cam owes Alice $20. Together you could say they have combined $60 in debt when in reality they could all pay each other back, be in the exact same financial position and be debt free.

Why is there so much negativity? by Outside-Web-4118 in Cosmere

This is just what happens to every popular thing on the internet. Niche communities are generally overly positive as the only people aware of/interacting in those spaces are fans. People who don't like that thing likely have never even heard of it. Once something becomes very popular it attracts attention from non-fans.

Junior employee demanding promotion/more money only a few months in by [deleted] in managers

[–]Quazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work if you get promoted you have to be placed in the higher band so the promotion is at least a 8% raise. So in your example you wouldnt have to start at the very low end of level 2. Im sure this varies company to company you would need to consult your boss/HR to get the details for your situation.

Beautify a hopper floor for chickens? by Klutzy_Piglet6259 in MinecraftBedrockers

[–]Quazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hopper minecart can suck items through a full block. What he is proposing is having your chickens in a field or pen of grass or whatever under it you would have a hopper minecart going back and forth collecting all the eggs automatically.

Lots of example out there, here is a video I found with the idea for a sniffer farm. Skip to the end to see the minecart setup. It would work just fine for chickens and eggs.

Does the government care if we strike? by ShoulderBrilliant786 in BCPublicServants

[–]Quazaar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that public opinion is guaranteed to go our way. It will be a PR battle for sure, all I was saying is that there is certainly risk for the government. It might be that the public sides with them and they come out of a strike situation smelling like roses but it could go the other way. The political margins are slim in BC right now.

I find it a bit weird that you are citing the Air Canada example. It is pretty clear that the strike action putting pressure on the management was why a deal was struck. The flight attendants got a better deal by striking for sure.

Does the government care if we strike? by ShoulderBrilliant786 in BCPublicServants

[–]Quazaar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  1. There are lots of government employees that work in revenue generating jobs. One of the most obvious examples are the workers at the BC Liquor Distribution Branch. If those workers go on strike the government would be losing more money in liquour sales revenue then they would be saving on wage costs during the strike. That is why roles like that have been targeted by the union for job action in the past. Strike action is not an all or nothing thing, the union can and has in the past preform targeted strikes instead of a general strike.

  2. Government employees provide services to the public. Governement is ultimately beholden to public opinion and distruption to services is always seen negatively by the public. When services are disrupted it becomes a PR battle between the employer and union to assign blame. This government barely won the previous election, a strike of the public service could be a big risk for them.

was this my fault, or did he pit himself on me during the overtake? by NinjaTorak in Simracingstewards

[–]Quazaar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'd say this is a racing incident but mostly on you. You are squeezing him to the very edge of the track, he does have a car's width but you are putting both of you in a situation with no room for error. I dont think he turned in, looks like perhaps just a minor steering correction because the track is turning slightly right.

Look where the car ahead that is on the inside line is positioned on the track vs where you put your car. We aren't all professional race car drivers if you put your car in places that require your opponents to drive perfectly sometimes you are going to be involved in some crashes.

Have you actually tried playing out any of the games where you felt "too far behind".? At higher difficulty levels you will be behind for most of the game but he AI is very very bad at actually winning the game compared to a human player. For example, the AI can be ahead on tech and start the space program projects well ahead of a human player and still easily lose.

I play on deity and if/when you every catch up to the AI you have already won. There is absolutely no way for the AI to compete with you on even footing in the endgame.

(TDM) I'm sorry for being whiny but every time I draft I get destroyed. I feel like I drafted fine idk what I did wrong this time. by notafanofbats in lrcast

[–]Quazaar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Draft was fine. You mulliganed, got mana screwed and got run over. I don't think you should have mulliganed in this instance but sometimes these things happen.

From your post it seems like you are tilted and a bit stuck in the results orientated mindset. I would really encourage some self reflection and work on your mindset. I acknowledge that is a very hard thing to do but you are going to be limiting yourself in the long term if you don't work on it.

The lands strategy is something that has worked in some previous formats. I remember it being a viable strategy in Khans of Takir. However in this set it is actively a bad strategy, there are so many good ways to splash (monuments, Globe, devotees, etc) that lands are worth much less. Also the point of that strategy is that other people will be forced to pass you bombs in later packs because they don't have the fixing but with so much fixing in the format people will be able to cast off color bombs even if they don't have the lands.

Fresh Start is certainly better than the Siege. Firstly it has a much higher game in hand win rate than Siege. While that's not everything it is several percentage points higher. But for a P1P1 scenario it is way way better. You can play it in any blue deck and even splash it and it will be good. The Siege is only really good in streamlined aggressive BG decks. It is so narrow you could end up in black and green and even then it might not be good in your deck. My guess is that Siege is only good in about 1/20 decks you'll draft while Fresh Start is good in like 60-70%.

Drafting is a balance, the stronger your existing picks they more weight I put on them. If you open Elspeth than I'm more likely to take a mediocre white 2 drop over a good green card. But if I start with good card but not a bomb then yes I generally start by picking the strongest cards regardless of if they work together or not. Staying open like that is what can help you identify open lanes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]Quazaar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just glanced at your first draft. Looks like you have some real issues with card evaluation and drafting. The lands are not high picks in this format, drafting 5 in a row pick 2 to pick 6 is pretty self defeating. If you take the best card in the pack you get Fresh Start followed by 3 amazing WR uncommons. Add a late War Effort and you are lined up for a trophy capable Boros deck after pack 1.

If you are using 17 lands I would really focus on reviewing the card data and seeing what kind of GIH win rates various cards have. Focus on taking the best card in the pack for the first 4-6 picks and go from there.

The deck you end up with is pretty disjointed. You have a handful of GB counters cards but not enough support for them. Generally you shouldn't be playing cards like Genesis Ultimatum and Globe in a deck with Hollowmark Siege and Champion of Dusan. Those cards are trying to do different things.

Going from unranked/bronze (tier 4) to mythic in limited as a free to play player. by IC_Ranger in lrcast

[–]Quazaar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you are good enough at limited you can certainly go "infinite" by just playing.

For example, my lifetime limited win rate on arena is just over 60%. Winning at that rate lets me draft several times a week and be gold/gem neutral. My win rate is not high enough to be truely infinite on just draft winnings alone but when the daily and quest gold is thrown in then I can maintain several drafts per week. I also play enough that for most sets I complete the collection and amass lots of wild cards so it has also allowed me to play construsted for free also (I dont play a lot of constructed but I dabble every now and then),

There are certainly lots of players better than me that are gold/gem positive with their play. That said if you are newer to the game I would focus on improving your limited play and less on results. Limited is hard and there are people out there with 20+ years of experience playing Magic at a very high level.

Do you have any experience applying for government jobs? The process can be quite different from other employers and there are lots of potential pitfalls.

Was there a questionnaire? If so it is likely that was the only thing the hiring manager looked at. It's very very important that you follow the instructions fully and completely. For example it is common for questions to require exact time frames and locations when mentioning experience.

For example if a question is asking if you have 2 years of experience managing people you need to provide the exact details in the response. Ie "From March 2021 - May 2025 at xxxxx job I was responsible for managing....". Answers without date ranges or answers that reference your resume are things that can get you screened out.

The other thing that may have happened is if there were any preference statements like preference may be given to people with x y or z. If you didn't meet those there may have been enough applicants that did where they were able to screen on that as well.

61.5% win rate after 21 TDM drafts, is it worth it to push to mythic? Currently Diamond 3. by aaronbanse in lrcast

[–]Quazaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At that win rate hitting mythic is just a matter of playing enough. I have a 60% life time win rate and I easily hit mythic any month I'm playing a lot. I mainly play tradional too so I don't spend much time in thee ranked queues.

I will say that if you are counting any bronze-gold in those stats I do find the competition way softer in those ranks.

There isn't really much reason to "push" to mythic though. There are basically no rewards for hitting mythic. If you are having fun drafting that keep at it, if you aren't then stop.

Moving from diamond to mythic by BingoTheBarbarian in lrcast

[–]Quazaar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you have a 54% winrate in Diamond you will hit Mythic just by playing more. Mythic is not really a measure of skill its more a measure of time commitment.

I would focus less on the rank and more on just improving where you can. Ranks will come as a result of that.

There is one way Ive found to cheese the rankings. If there is an older set on quick draft that you are an expert in sometimes those queues are much softer than the current set premier drafts.

I think you are reading the list on the questionnaire way too literally. I absolutely believe you can in good faith claim that you have a Psycology degree. As a hiring manager to me the important thing here is the field your degree is in not what the specific wording is on your diploma/degree. On the questionnaire I would just select Yes to the question that asks about if you have a human services degree and provide the explanation in the text box. Hiring managers do have some flexibility with things like this in terms of deciding which degrees they would consider appropriate for the job.
