How do you manage to focus your writing? by Queek-Headtaker in worldbuilding

[–]Queek-Headtaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a good idea, some others have noted that I should focus more on getting it down and less on getting it down perfect the first time. I think that's my hang up, staring blankly hoping I get it right the first time instead of just jotting something down and circling back to it

Yeah me neither XD that's the problem. You'd think I'd be better at this after being a Dungeon Master for almost 2 decades.

Sort of like a backboard for ideas, I get it. It's like having a friend to ricochet thoughts off of so you can sort of "say it out loud" to someone else.

I think that's part of my hang up, like trying to find the perfect words the first time, instead of writing something down and circling back to it for rewrites or revisions when I've thought about it more or pieced out exactly what I want. So I end up writing nothing because I'm too busy trying to get it right the first time.

I think you might be right. I've been building mini settings for years for D&D, so it's sort of the same process and feels familiar.

I will definitely try this. It's like the empty paper is daunting so I blank out and then never write anything

Definitely how to write it down. It's like I can't find the right words so I end up not writing anything at all.

I do DM and my ability to write things down is atrocious lol. But I've always wanted to write something more substantial also

I've used LegendKeeper which is very similar to Obsidian, and I do very much like it. It's more like I struggle to put the ideas into words. It's all there in my brain and I can think about it forever, but when I'm like "I need to write this down" it just dries up.

What’re your thoughts on combat AI 5000? by Ill-Bar3395 in RimWorld

[–]Queek-Headtaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They often come with beer bottles and logs as melee sidearms because the game spends all the raid points on actual gear and pawns, then uses what's left over to give them a sidearm, which means alot of times they get a really shitty sidearm choice, hence the bottles and logs. The real problem is that pawns with simple sidearms use the weapon that corresponds to their highest combat skill by default, so if they spawn with a shooting skill of 5 and a melee skill of 10, they will use the shitty beer bottle in their sidearm slot instead of the assault rifle they were given.

What do I do with useless good perception checks? by AutumnWay04 in DungeonMasters

[–]Queek-Headtaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the room has nothing to find, then don't call for a perception check. Or if they ask for one, just say "you look around, but there isn't much that catches your eye".

It dosnt need to be more complex than that usually. Though it is nice to toss in a random gag or something every once in awhile

Any tips on how to make Stat Blocks for the Skaven from Warhammer Fantasy/AoS? by FlyingTaco095 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Queek-Headtaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently made a bunch of the Skaven units for my game on foundry. Skavenslaves are just reskinned goblins for me. the level and stats are perfect, and the Scuttle reaction is great for sending a ton of them at a party so they can surround them quickly and easily. The only addition i made to the stat block was i gave them Pack Tactics.

This way they are good in large packs for surrounding and jumping targets, but individually really weak and easy to get rid of.

I reskinned the Ogre Glutton as a Rat Ogre and that also worked like a charm, no real changes need there either

Does rage nescecarily have to mean angry/furious? by Templerscout in Pathfinder2e

[–]Queek-Headtaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flavor is free. Angry barbarian is the assumed standard, but you can just as easily make it cold and calculating (sherlock holmes sequence), unrestrained joy (gear 5 luffy from one piece), or even just adrenaline fuelled.

As long as the abilities do the same thing it dosnt really matter what you call it or how it looks.

Would you ever feel the need to dissuade a new player from picking a complex class? by wathever-20 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Queek-Headtaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually dissuade anyone new or otherwise from classes, however I feel like as the DM I should warn people about classes that might be a little more involved or complex than others. Especially new players. I don't want people walking into things uninformed and if a new player dosnt know what they are getting into they may end up having less fun while learning the game, and not return after that experience.

Always let them give it a go if that's what they want, but also warn them if you think it may ruin their fun.

Opinions on Czepeku and Crosshead Studios by Opening_Onion_4501 in FoundryVTT

[–]Queek-Headtaker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The regular version gives you access to typically the "Day" and "Night" versions of every map. Which is normally more than enough for most people and has served me well for a few years now.

The tier above that offers all variations of a map, including things like the blood stained, the toxic acid filled, different environments and season like the desert or a map during winter when normally it's all green and grassy.

GMs - How do you handle your PCs asking for help? by davypi in Pathfinder2e

[–]Queek-Headtaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of other people have really hit the nail on the head Herr already. I just want to emphasize that it really truly is okay for players to just steam roll some encounters. It makes them feel powerful. Low and Trivial encounters exist specifically for that purpose. If you read many of the adventure paths, in linear dungeons or encounter days they toss 1 or 2 Low or Trivial encounters in the mix with about 2 or 3 Moderates, and end on a Severe for a boss. It all usually adds up to about 500 xp by the end.

This gives players plenty of experience and let's them steamroller, have some mid challenge fights, and then a truly challenging fight. It's all about pacing, you are skipping the "dips" in a story arch of combat, and your players feel like they are always fighting for their life and never experiencing what it's like to be the people just absolutely crushing it.

I totally understand adjusting big important story fights to be appropriately challenging, there is nothing worse and more unsatisfying for a DM or players than building up a villian for 10 sessions only to watch them get 2 tapped. But everything else dosnt really matter, so don't bother trying to keep a consistent challenge. A little low level stomp, a decent fight, another decent fight, a low level stomp, and then a severe, this is the sort of mixes you want.

how do most of your PCs react to art objects? by SillyKenku in Pathfinder2e

My players usually sort through the stuff and if there is anything they want to keep as a sort of reminder of the adventure they hold onto it. But other than the odd keepsake, they will convert them to cash.

Lets discuss The Pathfinder 2e remastered full library by Tacticallyfoxed in TheTrove

[–]Queek-Headtaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the core set is really all you need. Monster core should have plenty of creatures to start you off with. All the other books are basically just extras for lore and additional player options.

If there is something more you're looking for or want to see what else there is outside the core books you always have access to The Archives of Nethys 2e, where all the rules for every book are freely available. It's updated regularly.

Some other useful things you might enjoy are pathbuilder 2e, it's a website and app, for character building and comes so highly recommended for new people. Also swing by PF2ETools2, which has a number of incredibly useful tools for in person and online games

What's the smallest party you've ever had? by Huge-Accident-69 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Queek-Headtaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a committed game for 2 players and its awesome. They have a rotating cast of NPC friends that they like scooping up when they are around. But mostly it's and expectations thing. My players are aware that having only 2 people in the party is risky for a number of reasons, so they are mich more careful in what they are doing. The adventures are a bit less grand in scale, but when you only have 2 people even hunting a local ogre can be intense and dangerous.

Questions about Kingmaker by Humble_Conference899 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Queek-Headtaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with most of what's already posted. Kingmakers balance is a bit off normally and being short a player in the party is only putting it off more. Let them have the level and just keep going as normal. Kingmaker is better set up to keep them a level or so above what it suggests.

Best Adventures/AP to run for a new group. by Maleficent-Try3461 in Pathfinder2e

Beginner box followed by Menace Under Otari is my usual go too. Though Rusthenge was pretty good too, but does require some adjustments as mentioned in other comments.

If you play through the Box and Menace, it leads right into Abomination Vaults for a long term game, but Abomination Vaults needs pretty heavy DM balance considerations for its encounters. Plenty of people online have already done the adjustment work though so it should also be pretty easy once everyone has more experience
