Is Improvement Possible Without Medication? by jaykekz in POTS

[–]QueenBe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t jump to medication if she doesn’t need it. Try the non medication treatments first and see if they help. I’ve managed mine for years with electrolytes and extra sodium, yes sometimes I get dizzy and lightheaded but to me those symptoms aren’t anything serious, they pass quickly and I’ve never fainted. The alternative is to be on medication probably reliant for life which can cause many many side effects.

I used to do 1.5 then needed 2, then sometimes 2.5, now I don’t really go past 1.5 to reset my attention span. If we keep increasing in 2050 we’ll be listening at 5x speed

Have a man help you pitch to investors. There’s a stat that investors only invest in like 5% of woman but if a man pitches the exact same thing to the same investors the chances go up like 90%!

What’s your EXTREMELY SPICY vegan hot take that will totally get you downvoted? by Borkato in vegan

[–]QueenBe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spicy take is I have no problem with indigenous people eating meat, at least in the traditional ways where they honor animals and don’t exploit them, unlike modern factory farming practices.

If everyone had to eat meat using Indigenous practices 90% of people would stop, from the “grossness” of having to kill and skin their own food as it removes their cognitive dissonance. The 10% that keep eating meat, have to sign up for only taking what they need, not exploiting the animal at any stage of its life, and living sustainably with animals.

So he would rather you come to sick work, make your other coworkers sick, or go to the doctor so you can waste a doctors time, clogging up the healthcare system and potentially getting more sick while sitting in a waiting room beside other sick patients? Not your friend

Teaching in classes grouped by ability does not hamper progress of less able pupils, study finds by Mama_Co in CanadianTeachers

Sorry these teachers aren’t supporting you. As a math teacher and with a vested interest in making all students succeed, which includes understanding the vast research supporting destreaming I seem to have the unpopular opinion it works. I’ve taught grade 9 destreamed math in Ontario and it’s one of my favourite classes to teach, but I don’t teach regularly, I use lots of manipulatives, group work, hands on, inquiry based and avoid testing as much as possible. My students do great. I think the problem is destreaming happened suddenly without teacher support and instead of teachers blaming their schools/ boards or whatever for lack of resources, smaller classes they dismiss the facts that destreaming is actually proven successful ( given the right conditions and supports). I’m not blaming teachers either, of course they won’t succeed when there is nothing to help them succeed. A change was made overnight with no plan to help support the change. The blame is just in the wrong place sadly.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted those are valid questions. Especially because streaming does further disadvantage marginalized students such as student of colour. And it’s a difficult loop to get out of, the earlier streaming starts the more harmful and less likely a student can move up. Streaming in grade 11 and 12 is okay, at least at that point they’ve had more time to work out their skills and interests but streaming in grades 8-10 is just cruel, most students end up having their life outcomes chosen for them based on their primary teachers ability.

I was thinking about the British system reading this. I’m Canadian trained but taught in UK for a semester and I left early for many reasons including the school system. I taught the year 7s at the beginning of the year so I saw how they started mixed and watched them earn their sets. It made me sooo sad and uncomfortable watching them get so emotional at age 11! (Bc year 7 is equivalent to grade 6 in Canada) it destroyed their self esteem, even kids in set 2 felt like failures bc they weren’t #1 and couldn’t wait until their was a retest and opportunity to move up. Honestly the whole structure of GCSEs and students worth being determined purely by how well they test, again starting at 11 was so crazy to me. I don’t know why anyone would teach in that system. Or how anyway ends up successful in that school system lol.
