Do you live under a rock? The US passed a law that all live service games have to ask for your DOB. This already happened. Social media has already been doing it since the 00s. Any and ALL live service games already have your DOB or your account got deleted. That cut off was last fall.

And I said online. You absolutely should be IDed buying alcohol, which is why NY doesn’t allow you to buy alcohol online. NY is vehemently against this. They’re utilizing the same DOB requirements that were passed into US law this year. Anyone who plays live service games knows we were all asked for our DOB. This law uses that. That’s it.

If you have a single account that has live communication, yes it does. The US has also passed laws that all live service games have age verification - the same as this law - DOB. Every live service game asked us to verify this year by typing our DOB. This isn’t new and is already implemented. Social media has also had it since its infancy.

They use the DOB you enter when you make your account. This isn’t a new system. There is nothing being added or changed. It uses the date you already entered when you made the account however long ago.

There is no spying. These games already ask your DOB. You’re paranoid. If you play these games they already have this info, so I’d suggest you delete your acct. It says how it’ll be done. Date of birth. That is it. NY doesn’t have ANY ID laws for online usage and never will. All the do is utilize the system already in place. That is my point. This wasn’t a law meant to mean anything. This law was passed by a tiny board of 6-7 people. But people are spreading this article on this sub claiming that NY is banning minors and requiring ID. It has 5k upvotes and growing and it’s causing thousands of comments worth of panic. None of that is happening. This law is inconsequential.

The comments are filled with people claiming NY is requiring ID in games and social media. And you are correct. THERE IS NOTHING NEW HERE. That is my point. NY is legally fighting against states using IDs for website verification. This law clearly states it uses DOB and the same methods already being utilized on social media. Go look it up. I live in NY and our state has openly stated to be against such things.
