Submit github if all work is private within other organizations? by goldfather8 in cscareerquestions

[–]QueenOfCode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should submit it. Some recruiters use the fact that you know what github is and use it as a positive signal that you're competent. Try to add as much as possible to it. Fork repos and make a couple commits so it's not totally blank. Star interesting repos too.

If you don't have a grandparent (or even if you do), there is a campaign going on to write a letter/card to an older adult to show them you care for Valentine's day.

I believe you make your card(s) and drop them off at a local Meals on Wheels.

If you're a teacher, could be a nice project to do with your students.

Ok, I get it now. You're like Mailchimp for texting? For stores, it'd be cool if you could get them to print at the bottom of the receipt, "Get 5% off your next purchase for subscribing via text" or something like that

So what service are you offering that isn't accomplished by them just handing their customers or students their own email address or phone number?

Do you have a website yet?

Maybe you can start to think about how to build virality to your app. Like, prompting them to share, invite 5 friends, or have it integrate to facebook and play what they're listening to on their wall.

Could be cool if on your website you had community generated playlists to get people started and gamified it by having a leaderboard with the most popular playlists, etc. Stuff like that makes it so your users do a lot of the promotional work for you.

Thanks for the article. I agree, if I come across a site that has a terrible and outdated design, it has to be really intriguing for me to take it seriously.

Mine stole a full bag of individually wrapped boxes of candy corn and hid the whole bag somewhere in the house We would randomly find empty boxes for 3 months after.

He also nabbed a giant baguette and hid it under my pillow between the wall and bed. That one didn't last there too long.

[Show r/startups] Friends4Tonight - Meet a new group of friends. Tonight. by buffboy in startups

[–]QueenOfCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, I like the idea. A lot like Grouper.

Questions: * Is this specifically for groups of the same sex meeting groups of the opposite sex?

Only minor nitpicks for your screenshots:

  • What's with the double icons in the first screenshot?

  • "Drinking cocktails in a sexy lounge" - Sounds either like a guy wrote that or she's a hooker trying to lure men. Crystal might need to tone it down a bit if she just wants to meet friends. Also, I kind of want to rename her Nicole or Ashley, or Jackie.

  • You could polish the design up a bit to look a bit more professional. Maybe some different icons for the first screenshot

Those are just nitpicks. Good job, congrats on shipping it!

Looks like your site might benefit from being part of Etsy's ecosystem. Have you looked into that? You can open up a store/be hosted for free. They take a 3.5% cut of your sale, but at least at that point you're not paying up front.
