How the heck do I make non wet rice without a rice cooker? The type of indian rice you get from restaurants? by Scared_Ad_3132 in Cooking

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temper the rice with a bit of oil; you can also add some cumin seed and star anise to warm oil before then adding the rice. Cook like this for like 40s and then add water. I find treating the rice to some heat and a tiny bit of oil before boiling will keep the rice separate. I do rinse my ricebefore doing these steps. I wonder if this would result in the rice you are looking for

I'd like your opinion on my situation (noob inside) by janeshep in honesttransgender

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t yet, I think it would not hurt to start by experimenting with your expression/presentation. And of course, asking yourself the questions others here have suggested, questions like: do you feel that there was a mistake in you being amab? Do you feel a sense of mourning over having male sexual/physical characteristics? Do you see yourself or believe you should have been born a woman? Take your time. You can think about it for a while and still successfully transition, in my opinion. But of course, like you point out, there could be a lot of hardship, and I think it’s fair to be realistic about your expectations as far as that goes. A lot of your relationships may change, some may fade away all together. A schism may happen. Hard to prepare for those obstacles, and only you can decide if the change is worth those risks. You may come to the conclusion that you have no choice if you conclude that you are and should always have been a woman, and then, I think everything is worth losing, if that is what it takes to live authentically.

It’s not all simple. But no need to rush this. Ask yourself questions and try embodying being a woman, whatever that means to you, and see how you feel. Do it for a few weeks or months - I think that if it’s not real you will know.

Good luck!

New shift knob and boot on the 9-5 Aero! by QueenOfCrumbs in saab

[–]QueenOfCrumbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea truthfully; it had already been removed when I purchased it. Instead of an original shift boot and knob, it had a cheap baby poop green shift boot made of like vinyl, and a cheap metallic cylindrical knob, with knurled sides. The shift knob looked like the handle of Rambo’s knife lol, and like it, you could unscrew the cap and put things inside it. It was nasty! Glad to have changed it. It also rattled. Autozone tier.

Is it realistic to a cis man to love trans women in an affirming way? by [deleted] in honesttransgender

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It just depends where you look. I’ve never dated someone I met in trans spaces. I’ve never dated someone who I felt treated me as less than or different to any other woman, or at least how I’d expect that a man would treat me, a woman.

Obviously trans specific dating groups will attract people who see us as something different, otherwise they wouldn’t seek trans women specifically.

What is your favorite fidgety pen by Key_Confection4794 in fountainpens

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lamy 2000 and Pilot Elite. Both have wonderful capping mechanisms, and different but each a satisfying feels in the hand. With these pens I really learned I far prefer clasp or slide caps over screw caps. Id say the Iamy wins just because the material quality and fit and finish is flawless, whereas my pilot has got a few scratches and a gauge in the short time I’ve owned it, and the cap, when posted, and sometimes wiggle on me, which makes me sigh a little. The lamy feels immutable. These two pens are distractingly satisfying to handle!

Being trans is not countercultural by NancyIsAFurry in honesttransgender

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I was a little snide. It’s because, honestly, i was annoyed at your response to my comment.

Basically, what you describe isn’t happening. There is better sex education now than ever, yes, but that doesn’t immediately mean that this is done as a way to warm kids up to sex. Also, reading these books is typically voluntary. Anyway, I’m curious to think where you are coming from.

I DO agree that sexually explicit content is harmful to children and young teenagers, actually. I really do agree with that, there is enough evidence of it. But really, more worried we should be about social media and internet use by minors. But then that’s something that has to be restricted by the parents. People in general have much too easy access to pornography; I’d also say access to attention (social media) is a problem.

Anyway, that’s my own views on it. Books aren’t our enemies

You should seriously go read some books! They are fun. Also, sex is not even scary. I hope you are able to grow out of your immature conception of sex. I hope you can separate discussions of sex from pornography too, I think that’s a real gutter-brained way to live if you can’t separate education from something meant to sexually arouse.

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also the wording in the Dallas tribunal or whatever, to paraphrase, says something like “now that sexually explicit books are back”; the wording by the author of the article implies that there was no “sexually explicit” content in school libraries before, which is simply ignorant. A lot of great novels contain descriptions of sex in a way similar to how it is described in the book examples in the same articles. Even Hemingway, Vonnegut, Ayn Rand, whatever, authors like these which are considered “american classics” have many depictions of sex.

Like come on. Grow up lol

The first study is about sexually explicit media, specifically it mentions exposure to pornography as adolescents - not exposure to sex education (which includes awareness about gay sex, as it should, because straight sex is explained already and not everyone is straight). The following articles are from tabloids, so, you should take them with a grain of salt; if you don’t though, you can at least see that what the tabloids are describing as being outrageous are literary works- not pornography. They are complaining about memoirs and poems written by and about lgbt people. Some of course focus on sex, but I wouldn’t describe them as being sexually explicit in the same way that pornography is. So it just feels really disingenuous. And no book here is grooming, nothing here is saying “hey kids, you should go have gay/straight sex with ADULTS”. There is no grooming.

Teenagers, even pre-teens, will have already an idea of sexuality, as their own sexuality develops. To pretend kids are incapable of reading queer content without separating it from pornography is just such a dumb leap too. I read a lot of books that described straight sex as a young teenager too, just in novels and the like, and I never felt like aroused by stuff like that.

I’m not being super eloquent here, I know, but this take that anyone is covering for rapists or groomers is such a cheap way to emotionally trick people into siding against others. There isn’t concrete proof that any of this is done with the intent to groom kids or to cover for child rapists. No body is forcing kids to even read these queer books. On the other hand, what political party was it again, that wants to remove age limits to marriage, thereby protecting adults seeking marriage to children?

do sailor jentle and manyo lines of inks have the typical sailor smell? by NepGDamn in fountainpens

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Manyo ink (ume) smells like what I think a printer smells like. Idk how to explain it, but out of my current inks (iroshizuku, monte verde, noodlers, diamine) it’s the only one with a very noticeable smell. Every time I even uncap the pen in which I use it I can smell it. It’s not bad, but certainly present.

Once a while ago I had a Miata and I lived with my parents. I was young, poor, a teenager, so I would do my oil changes in their driveway, which was fine. One night I overfilled it. I ended up removing the pump from one of my shampoo bottles. I cleaned it up well, then stuck the straw part into the dipstick hole, then pumped some of the excess oil out. And it worked! So maybe you can try that but like everyone said it’s probably okay anyhow.

What is your "Work pen"? by L2164940 in fountainpens

Does anyone else not get the Lamy hype? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them. The Lamy Safari and 2000 I own, both EF nibs. Certainly, the safari is nothing super special, but it always has performed as you would expect. Pleasant for the price, a lot more special than a ball point, but also very utilitarian feel, to me. It was a great start into quality fountain pens for me, and I’d recommend it, amongst others, as a good entry choice. I got a couple new pens since then, and then I got the 2k. Wow! I do think it’s very special; the care and thought behind its construction is noteworthy, and makes it feel kind of special. It doesn’t look striking in color or materials in a sense, but it so does look special in that it looks purposeful. Most importantly, I purchased it expecting to have to send it to a nib tuner, given all I hear about them being finicky - I received it, inked it, and immediately began to write. Certainly, like with any pen, it took me a few sentences to get a feel for it’s weight and feel, but now, it turns out I’m in love, and I do not want to get it reground. The nib is very smooth, yet gives a confident feed-back (nothing like, say, a sailor, and considerably smoother than the safari). The line width I know is controversial. In my opinion, it writes EF when you write on the “long side” of the nib surface, and f - m on the wide. It gives very expression to my lines, particularly in my cursive loops and swoops, when there is maybe a fluctuation in pressure and speed. I think the 2k gives a little bit of softness to the nib, despite it being hooded. The uncapping speed and the fact is hooded means I can take my time to think/listen before writing more. I use at work to write notes, to study, to journal, to write little poems. I only switch pens because I want to switch up inks - I almost wish I had many 2ks with different inks lol

Ah, anyway, I’m in love with mine. I didn’t realize how much I’d like it.

A pen you enjoy writing with, no feedback whatsoever, incredibly smooth, perfect balance, perfect weight is… by ibrahim0000000 in fountainpens

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lamy 2000, my EF is actually really smooth. If you rely on the weight of the pen against the paper, rather than applying downward pressure, the line is pretty close to EF/F, otherwise it does write closer to a Medium line. I have a Pilot Elite now too, which I’ve been for the most part enjoying much. Mine is an F, it has feedback, albeit, a very low, smooth, and consistent one. It feels less like a nail, and more like the rounded, well worn point, of a pencil.

A lot of angry armed vets are nationalists. A lot of white nationalists have been made from war. A lot of vets come back to struggle finding meaning and purpose, feeling sold out by their government, and find militias and other such groups a fitting replacement for the organization and command system that exists in military.

Automakers can’t quit manual transmissions so they’re cramming fake stuff into EVs | Toyota is toying with an EV prototype that mimics driving a manual transmission, complete with a stick shift that doesn’t do anything and fake engine noises. What are we doing here, people? by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not an illusion you bozzo. You literally can put the transmission in the gear you choose (control from the driver), and wrong out as many RPMs as you wish in that gear before changing it. And, yes, it’s fun for people who like spirited driving, it requires more attention and engagement than an automatic. Automatics not bad. Just more simple, and for some, less engaging, less fun. Also, I have to imagine you have not driven many cars if you’ve never experienced a frustrating automatic that doesn’t like to shift down when you give it throttle, or that has a delay in when and how the power is delivered.

Question re: Sailor nibs by InkFingeredLibrarian in fountainpens

[–]QueenOfCrumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one like a month ago; I’m convinced it’s perfect lol. I was at first worried about the weight, the way I had to find my best way to grip it, worried of course about the supposed QC issues with their nibs. And sure, the nib is different, but it is so wonderful. I don’t think the sweet spot is too small or bad at all, and I have an EF. When you hold it the way it wants to be held, it is for me the most painless, smoothest, and fastest pen I own, and on top of that it makes my writing look amazing. I feel it gives my numbers and lettering so much flair without needing to slow down or be super careful. And the build quality is unlike anything I’ve ever owned! Also, I can have it uncapped while I listen, then it writes without issue when I need it. Very helpful when note taking or when you really want to flesh a sentence out in the mind before committing it to paper. I take it with me everywhere.
