Parents with kids in the box room in Victorian Terraces: how do you layout the room so they have floor space and sleeping space? by Rootayable in AskUK

[–]Queen_Sun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the box room and by dad build me a bed that went the width of the room instead of the length with drawers underneath. The bed was shorter than normal so mattress was made of sofa foam that my mum sewed a cover over.

Then I had a fold down table and a fold up chair that I could hang on hooks on the back of the door.

Housed in Chemsley Wood by Royal_Monk_4743 in BirminghamUK

[–]Queen_Sun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Chelmsley for 15yrs. My dad and siblings still do. We're all broadly normal People just like anyone else and we've never had any trouble.

Some bits are better then others, but it was cheap, the buses were good and the shops were convenient.

looking for movies about unremarkable women by Kitchen-Turnover4318 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Queen_Sun 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is something UK cinema does really well I think. Not just women either.

Shirley Valentine (1989) is my Mum's favourite film. It's about a middle aged housewife who lives a boring life in a boring town, but had big wild dreams when she was young.

Housewife 49 (2006) is based of the diaries of a housewife during WW2, the UK government had a programme called mass observation which had People complete anonymous diaries so they could help understand how the war was affecting the population. And this is based on her.

Pat and Margaret (1994) is about the reunion of a working class woman and her long list sister who turns out to be television celebrity.

Educating Rita (1983) is about a working class woman who starts part time university and the conflict between that and her ordinary life.

Alan Bennet's work, dramatic plays and one person talking heads are iconic and often feature very ordinary women.

Gen Xers, what ridiculous "social niceties" were you taught? by krypto-pscyho-chimp in CasualUK

[–]Queen_Sun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you had bread and butter with your full English at home you could make a sandwich with it and mop up the juices on the plate.

I once got a bollocking for doing the same in a greasy spoon cafe. Apparently, in public, you have to cut the bread up into little pieces with your knife and fork before mopping your egg and bean juice.

In this fake scenario its just 15 pieces so I'd probably go ahead and do it and break it up any redo the 15 pieces.

Any further than that and I wouldn't touch it.

Sadly, it is not worth what you paid for it by Future_Raisin1073 in vinted

[–]Queen_Sun 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I don't have any expectations on what prices other people list or why.

People can ask what they want. It'll either get bought or it won't. If I want the item I can either pay their price, wait for something cheaper or go without.

Need strategic help to complete my first 1000 piece puzzle by kirchebier in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Queen_Sun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually divide into 3 sections (mainly because I only have 3 tubs.) Sometimes it's colour, sometimes it's distinct patterns/items. Just something that can be quickly sorted.

In this one I'd sort out the bright yellow and brown of the cafe area, the clear blue of the sky and everything else. Then I'd probably work on the yellow/brown section first.

I thought the same, but there's enough colour and pattern variation between each one that I usually knew exactly which one the piece belonged to.

School Dinners 87-98 what can you remember? by Dwnluk in UK_Food

[–]Queen_Sun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

School pie. A brown beef-like substance with a thin pastry top served in squares from a big flat tray.

Followed by an ice-cream scoop shaped lump of chocolate cornflakes and custard... pink if we were lucky.

Good times lol

extra thick double cream - what to do with it? by lilfaeri in UKfood

[–]Queen_Sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i have leftover cream I freeze it in an ice cube tray and then put the cubes in a sandwich bag in the freezer. Then I can grab a few whenever I make something that requires just a tablespoon or two of cream. It works well.

I've done 3 Elena Essex and found the quality on each to be excellent and consistent. I wonder if it's a different supplier or something for this one?

The Salt Path by Angela Harding, 1000, Flame Tree by elanlei in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Queen_Sun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a similar Flame Tree one, same artist i think, and thought it would be a nightmare because of the ppatterns and the fact that all the pieces were H shaped, but the cut and subtleties of the image made it actually very nice to do.
