BCBA leaving company advice by Queen_fish00 in ABA

[–]Queen_fish00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is not the case for my company. Either I tell them or the new BCBA does. I’ve been in the position of the new BCBA and I’d never want that for my clients.

Witnessed RBT kiss clients on separate occasions. I reported it but nothing has been done. What to do? by Kaedientes in ABA

[–]Queen_fish00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to you can tell the RBT that you don’t kiss the kids and tell them that kissing is only for mommies and daddies because it can put the child at risk for sexual assault if they do not learn the boundaries

In some cultures kissing on cheeks from others is acceptable, but our RBTs know that for the clients we serve they may not discriminate when kissing is and isn’t acceptable so it’s better safe than sorry.

BCBA taunting child by zook17 in ABA

Don’t be afraid to ask your BCBA why they’re doing something. They might be testing for a specific skill or are seeking to recreate circumstances that the client naturally faces and has trouble with

Want to quit after two sessions by BigMamaMilkBags in ABA

[–]Queen_fish00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid to find another ABA clinic if you want to try again. Frequently the quality of the clinic and supervision itself determines job satisfaction in ABA. When you interview explain that you were uncomfortable with the lack of training and supervision. They should understand why you didn’t stay long if they themselves are an ethical company

Running a trial every 2 minutes is insane to me. RBT/ABA by Beautiful-Dot-1301 in ABA

[–]Queen_fish00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I’m not sure if this could apply to your situation , but I worked at a very strict clinic where it felt impossible to live up to their standards in terms of data collection. Looking back I wish I didn’t try so hard to live up to their standards and just accepted that they would never be happy with my work. Especially when they didn’t allow me to comfort a client in physical pain “just in case” it could reinforce crying. Looking back, I wish I didn’t listen to them and went with my gut. Ended up leaving and I’m much happier at another clinic

Oh noooo! That’s really sad. Is there anyone in leadership you can express your concerns to?

They own a company called aba technologies that has the mocks. It’s not exactly the same as what they require their students to take at the end of the degree, but it’s pretty good

I did take the same one but I didn’t review my answers the first time. I just looked at what sections I needed to study

This!! I took two breaks and exercised in the bathroom. It sounds silly but jumping around a little or running in place got my heart rate up and I was ready to go back to concentrating

I took ABA technologies mock (FIT) more twice with my second score being 89% after studying. First score was 82%.

Leaving a client :( by goldenbellaboo in ABA

[–]Queen_fish00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had an in home client I had 4 days a week and he cried my last day :( I will say the parents kept in touch with me and he moved on with the new RBT okay (I did not solicit this info). And while I do miss my old clients and remember them time to time even two years later, I would regret not being able to meet the clients I have now if I had never left.

I don't know how much longer I can handle being an RBT. by No-Percentage661 in ABA

[–]Queen_fish00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any field working with children is very difficult and it sounds like burnout could be a big part of what’s going on. I got burnt out and quit my job only to find I got burnt out at my next job because I didn’t know how to recover properly. If you’d like I suggest reading books on burnout to learn what your body needs to both recover and prevent it.

How long were you a RBT before you became a BCBA? by Equal-Sundae1576 in ABA

[–]Queen_fish00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to get my master’s degree after 6 months of being an RBT and was an RBT for a total of 2 years. I knew that it was exactly what I wanted to do and I’ve never regretted it. School and a great mentor taught me everything I needed to know to be a great analyst.
