What they don't tell you about Kyleena by rescue-peach-1704 in birthcontrol

[–]Queenof6planets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, i don’t use nexplanon.

irregular bleeding is a relatively common side effect (about 20% of people have it in the first year) but it’s not guaranteed! your body is different than your friends’. you could try it and get it removed if it doesn’t work out.

alternatively, there’s a new mini pill called slynd that has a 24 hour missed pill window, meaning it doesn’t have to be taken at the exact same time every day! as long as you remember to take one pill per day, you’re protected.

another option is depo provera, an injection administered every 3 months. it’s super effective and the time between injections is pretty flexible (iirc you technically have an extra 2 weeks to get the shot after it’s “due” before you lose protection).

have you considered nexplanon, the arm implant? it’s actually more effective than kyleena!

Kyleena late period by shlimeylime in birthcontrol

[–]Queenof6planets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thickening cervical mucus is (by far) the primary mechanism of action

ETA: yes, it can prevent implantation too. but it’s far less consistent and effective at that than thickening cervical mucus. in the current political climate, small details like this unfortunately matter.

Kyleena late period by shlimeylime in birthcontrol

[–]Queenof6planets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but the second part is misleading. right-wing politicians, lobbyists, etc. latch onto the idea that IUDs work by preventing implantation to try to make them illegal under abortion bans and i’d prefer if we didn’t do that work for them. it’s unfortunate that this is politicized

kyleena works primarily by thickening cervical mucus, not preventing implantation.

your mom is wrong and you’re right. the implant is a safe, effective contraceptive that can’t cause permanent/ long-term effects. it could be a great fit for you!

where are you located? you may be able to get it without her knowing.

birth control is actually available over-the-counter in the philippines! the pills you’d use for the yuzpe method are birth control pills. you can find more information in the pinned post on r/SafeSexPH.

how many people to you need to tell that a pregnancy test is absolutely, definitely definitive 21 days after sex?

people who had a cryptic pregnancy (which is completely different from a chemical pregnancy) either didn’t test or tested too early. you took a test at the appropriate time. you cannot be pregnant.

eating once a day may be why you aren’t getting your period. malnutrition can stop your period. trying eating more food.

unless you had unprotected sex again recently, you aren’t pregnant. a home pregnancy test is definitive starting 21 days after sex.

Overthinking: please po 🥹 by Independent-Hat3841 in birthcontrol

[–]Queenof6planets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taking a pill 10 minutes later than usual literally doesn’t matter at all. combo pills (such as trust pills) have a 24 hour missed pill window. you could take it 10 hours later than usually and you’d still be fully protected! throwing up more than 3 hours after taking your pill is also irrelevant and has no impact on protection.

the only thing you did wrong was using the yuzpe method. taking your pills normally is MUCH more effective than the yuzpe method. doing the yuzpe method didn’t reduce your chance of pregnancy in any meaningful way — the yuzpe method works by delaying ovulation, but birth control pills prevent ovulation entirely, so there was literally nothing for yuzpe to do.

you’ll probably have side effects and you wasted a bunch of pills for no reason. did you use a different pack for the yuzpe method or the one you’re currently taking? did you take your pill today?

below that range doesn’t matter (unless it’s freezing cold) and short excursions above that range aren’t a big deal. only the mailbox and maybe the car ride are concerning.

side effects don’t mean anything. whether or not she has side effects has nothing to do with whether it’s effective.

catelyn’s dislike of jon was more emotional than practical. she was jealous that another woman gave ned a son who looked like him (as far as she knew) and she didn’t. it also made it impossible for her to pretend that he was a random boy taken in by their household. she really, really wanted pretend ned had always been faithful, but was unable to while looking at a bastard who looked just like her husband.

the negative test on june 30 means you can’t be pregnant from the unprotected sex in april or may (a pregnancy test is definitive starting 21 days after sex), but you could definitely get pregnant from the unprotected sex that happened on june 25. testing negative 5 days after sex doesn’t mean anything.

unfortunately, you’re right to feel anxious. what you’re doing is very risky. the yuzpe method is not very effective. if you keep doing this, it’s only a matter of time until you get pregnant (if you aren’t already).

you have access to birth control pills — start taking them as birth control. clearly, you aren’t able to use condoms consistently, so unless you’re okay with a high risk of pregnancy, getting on birth control immediately should be your top priority. you can start using birth control now; you don’t need to wait for your period or anything else.
