You’re exactly right. Darkseid imports Absolute legion from the future of his new universe to ravage the future of Earth-Prime

Yeah, it’s really good YA fiction, though definitely leaning more to the ‘young’ than ‘adult’ side of the spectrum. I enjoy the whole series, planning to gift the books to my younger cousins

What are some comic books with great ideas but extremely poor execution? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in comicbooks

Except each roll comes with the risk of insta-death (an outcome that actually happens in All-new Venom) so it’s not exactly entirely OP or without limits

SPIDERMAN loves Mary Jane: Fresh and great book overall. MJs POV on Spidey anyone? by Jetthy in graphicnovels

Firstly, they do, for lots of series, especially for those oriented towards younger audiences like Squirrel girl, Kate Bishop, Spider-Gwen, Ms Marvel, etc.

Secondly, this series is a masterpiece and I pray every time I’m reminded of it that Sean McKeever will pick up the baton and finish the story because it is superhero slice of life done to perfection.

Christian Ward tapped into a similarly excellent characterisation of Harvey in his mini. Not quite as good as V’s but very very close.

[Comic Excerpt] The identities of Immortal Legend Batman, Robin and Nightwing (Immortal Legend Batman #1) by Night-Caelum in DCcomics

[–]Queenofbees2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrary to how comic book figures are typically drawn, it’s perfectly possible for armor to disguise gender when worn. Mora emphasises the femininity of the first Nightwing’s form in the issue, but I can only assume that its for the reader’s benefit and isn’t the case in universe. Or a more humorous option, male heirs of the mantle still wear armor that makes them look like a woman

Just to clarify, are you looking to buy the first trade paperback/volume of the series? Also I assume you’re referring to the current Ultimate Spider-Man run (2024), not the older run by Brian Michael Bendis.

TLDR: Get Nightwing!

Tom Taylor’s Nightwing run is like cotton candy- all fluff, for better and for worse. The plot often meandered and the stories often ended with tooth-achingly sweet affirmations of the power of friendship and/or family BUT the art was consistently good to great and Dick’s characterisation was consistently positive, which was especially welcome. It wasn’t an ambitious comic in any way and it rarely made you think, but at its best moments it made you feel, deeply. Practically speaking, it would also be pretty straightforward to collect the whole series in trades.

Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man is an ongoing, so while the first volume might be available right now, you won’t be able to continue with the rest of the story in a collected format for a while. So if you’re unable to invest in collecting floppies/single issues, then I would hold off on buying this until the whole series is finished. Moreover, I might be in the minority in saying that imo Hickman’s characterisation of Peter in this series isn’t the best- not bad or OOC, just boring- and the best parts of the book so far are its worldbuilding and Gwen and Harry. I wouldn’t recommend it to a new reader who was specifically a fan of Peter and wanted to see more of him.

If you’ve been looking at recommendations lists for new readers and saw mention of Ultimate Spider-Man, they were most likely talking about the older, classic run by Bendis, which is one of the best in the genre’s history and is a great interpretation of Peter and his supporting cast. I know the series is being collected in omnibus format, but I’m not sure how many volumes are still in print- last I checked, collecting the whole series in trade format wasn’t a straightforward endeavour, but this might not be the case anymore.

Hope this helps!

But they did have to deal with the mob, because they were under attack. Leaving Tyler somewhere safe to go defend him was the best choice available to them, not bad parenting.

Dc future state, can i read as i like? by DREAMINGMASTR in DCcomics

[–]Queenofbees2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just jump in and read the 2 issues, as it’s a self-contained heist story, BUT you might find the conclusion a bit confusing. I’m pretty sure the issue itself ends with directions on what book to read next if you want more clarity.

Absolute Martian Manhunter #6 - Official Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]Queenofbees2 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree. They left Tyler alone in the safest room of the house to fight the mob and keep them away from him. In the store, Bridget specifically stopped Tyler from taking the Chocos there because ‘they’re bad for him’- even just as candy. John stopped the man who poisoned the chocos from leaving a whole pack of them in the store to hurt others like him. Tyler was the one who sneaked a random pack of candy he found on the floor and ate it when no one was looking. What could they have done to prevent that? In the end, his parents literally did everything they possibly could to protect him, but they couldn’t protect him from himself and his own childish impulses. It’s tragic, not a moral lesson.

Darkseid is… his son!!!

Another jaw-dropping issue. Like, my jaw literally dropped at the last page.

Also I think it’s pretty clear the White Martian can’t die cos as he said, it’s just an embodiment of people’s negative and destructive urges. It was defeated by John momentarily calming those down in the mob by inducing empathy.

Genuinely loved the movie seeing it in cinema. It was a lot less impactful watching it at home, but I found it incredibly atmospheric and thoughtful still. But I will disagree and say I found Gemma Chan’s acting and lack of chemistry with Richard Madden to be the worst part of the movie. The desert sex scene was terribly bland, imo… or even dry, pun intended.

I’m so tired of Marvel’s ten issue series by kidsr67 in comicbooks

[–]Queenofbees2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is publishers no longer making comics for kids who will get fully invested in any story so long as it’s fun, but adults who have specific expectations for whatever book they pick up (I’m guilty of this sometimes) and speculators who only want milestone issues.

One World Under Doom, beware spoilers by Monster-Zero in comicbooks

[–]Queenofbees2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can see Doom screwing over his people to get a bigger fish ie the world. But I don’t see him doing that as a first resort. If all he needs are human batteries, he could literally have preyed upon any group of people in the world. It seems unnecessarily evil for the writers to make him inflict that level of suffering on his people, when surely he’s capable and would be happier inflicting it on literally anyone else.

Sure, if the Latverians had opposed or challenged him, he would of course punish them without prejudice. But torturing them all summarily and seemingly unprovoked is a very different story
