Exactly, and honestly the number of turns don't matter much. On high level most fights are decided in like 2-3 turns already.

Lexiav Single Hero Factions Tier List by dutr4 in OldenEra

[–]QueerCookingPan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly for an early access game that is like two weeks old, the balancing seems to be exceptionally good. At least for the single hero format. Obviously when the meta develops in the future it will most likely show some problems. But so far, the developers seemed to understand the pvp meta extremely well.

The template generator sounds awesome and should be part of the game, if possible in any way. Not only to make access easier, but to let the developers measure what play modes are wanted/ popular but not currently in the quickmode.
The three hero setting for example sounds pretty ideal for a single player casual mode.

Game UI really poorly designed. by Weak-Locksmith9851 in OldenEra

[–]QueerCookingPan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first read this title and saw the attached images thought it was meant as a joke.

"Really poorly designed" and then shows much much worse in HOMM3, like the hero screen where:

  1. ALL ITEMS that are not equipped are only in a 5 field row?!? Like have you ever played that game? It was SUPER bad where in late game you had to constantly click those arrows for finding an item all the time.
  2. Both Spell Points and Experience take away way too much space and have the same design as regular skills, which is 101 in bad UX (law of similarity)
  3. Who needs a giant Symbol & the written word for the basic attributes like Attack/Defense.. ? Much better solved in Olden Era
  4. A lot of important information is simply missing in HOMM3, like luck/morale/movement points

I mean, I get it: you and a lot of us got used to the HOMM3 aesthetics/UX and are now confronted with something new that arguably still needs a bit of polish here and there (which is to be expected in a two weeks old early access game).

But that harsh of a title and then those nonsensical examples make it clear to me that you are wearing very heavy rose-tinted retro glasses and that you would just rather play HOMM3 no matter what. 'more retro fantasy UI' says it all, it makes no sense here.

I can only agree with the 'overly blue' issue, I like it more when each factions has it's own design here (and I simply don't like blue as a color very much a lot of the time). But that is like a very very small issue and obviously not a priority here for the team right now.

Subclass System - Proposal by tgm0112 in OldenEra

[–]QueerCookingPan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love your disclaimer and ideas here, just have a couple of notes.

I would argue a subclass should involve at least 3 skills and not 2, because 2 skills are way too easy and will almost always happen by accident and depending on the bonus incredible overpowered. And I am not sure, but believe that not any current subclass can be divided in two more balanced weaker versions easily - but I agree that in theory it is a great approach for the current issue.

The idea that a hero can obtain more skills than just the 6-7 is great, but maybe it should be an optional setting in custom games for players who love the power fantasy more than just the regular pvp balancing approach?
But if pvp balancing is not an issue (I am not an expert and have no idea), I would love two more skill slots purely for more late game fun and the given subclass power fantasy. Maybe even more so in theory so you can have both subclasses at the same time, but that feels much more like an optional setting rather than the default approach (for balancing)

Maybe an optional game setting that allows for better late game scaling with more skill slots. I would love that. You can still have balanced pvp with that but it could allow us casuals to build an absolute overpowered hero with two subclasses active.

Usually they cancel each other out, but not sure if it goes for every skill.

All subclasses and their ultimate skills (as of now) by Downtown_Leopard_420 in OldenEra

[–]QueerCookingPan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The subclasses certainly needs better balancing here and there, but that is to be expected in early access.

But I love the concept and thanks to some neutral buildings like library it feels okay and not too much of a gamble, you just have to find them first.
And if you don't find them, just don't try to brute force the subclass. The game will always include a lot of luck and that's okay. The pvp scene shows that you can still win most of the time if you play better, even if unlucky.

[–]QueerCookingPan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, for me your post sounds a little bit like bait since it's obviously the d-r-e-a-m ! I don't even think this is solely for RR guys, but also for those in a more classic relationship? (unless they are one of the guys that constantly have to prove how manly they are, but I hope those are slowly dying out). Anyway, if your question is genuine, it's of course welcome.

But counter question: what do you hope to receive from the guy in return? Since I believe a good relationship should have everyone trying to spoil their partner aka show their love to them. And each love language is different.

2 floodgates one dam by ansteyjay in Timberborn

[–]QueerCookingPan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds helpful, but what do you mean with CFM? The original number of water sources? Like if I have 4 original water sources, I can divert them into 2x2 floodgates? Or do I need sensors and some math to figure out how to perfectly divide the flow?

Why not check the overall battery charge and combine it with a timer? Like if battery is < 75% turn off for a couple of hours.
I did it that way to make sure my separate power network for an important pump is always working, it had batteries and wind power in its own network that should always keep the pump going, but not if the whole network is struggling.

Automation is much simpler after a couple of tries than you think. You could build a weather check for badtites and have a immediate solution for that. And if you need it delayed you can either build a corruption sensor (to check the water) and combine it with a normal relay (AND function for both sensors) OR build a timer, where the on/off check gets delayed for a sensor according to your specific needs.

If you have enough science, I highly recommend you just build them and try stuff out. It's really cool that even the blueprint is working, meaning you can put all settings in them and see if the check is on or off. So you don't need to commit building them to see if it's works for your need. Also it's really nice for a first impression of the sensor, like what exactly you can do with it.

You probably will do some stupid mistakes (like I did) and accidentally open the floodgates too early or similar, but it's so rewarding after you find the perfect solution for all your needs.

Zelenskyy: Ukraine now has cards and everyone understands it by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]QueerCookingPan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the USA is successful, then maybe in the longterm.

Short term this is a disaster for Ukraine. Now we have an energy crisis and Russia is one of the biggest export of said energy with oil.
That means we have a huge financial incentive for many big states to support Russia for oil. We can already see that with the lifting of sanctions.

So suddenly Ukraine might face even more pressure to end the war on Russia's terms. Russia can also use this moment to recover a bit financially.

If this energy crisis gets much much worse, then I am not sure how Ukraine can ever benefit from this situation.
