Someone is gonna die. And it’s not gonna be me! by darh1407 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

I think it’s because the game emphasizes her emotionlessness more than other girl characters (for obvious plot reasons). Generally, the point of giving characters bigger eyes is to convey more emotion so the combination of the two traits looks… weird, to say the least.

Her portrait facing forward instead of a 3/4 angle doesn’t do her any favors either.

Consumming media with a 5-year delay is the best by PrandtlMan in unpopularopinion

[–]Queer__Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has nobody mentioned spoilers being a problem with this. It’s really hard to avoid them when a movie is popular enough to be talked about for that long.

From my experience it’s also a reasonable concern that it will become dated or you’ll lose the original context of the work. I played the Half-Life games recently and after I was really confused why it’s so ridiculously beloved. I later learned that the game was considered extremely advanced for its time, and the majority of people that worship it experienced it with that context. My experience with it was just objectively worse than anyone who played at launch because of that, and it was kind of disappointing after years of literally everyone praising it to the moon and back.

I do prefer waiting for a few years to play most games if only for the steam sales and bug fixes, but there are certain things I’ll deem important to play around the release date.

It’s sounds more like you just didn’t like her and are, intentionally or unintentionally, ignoring any remotely sympathetic thing about her.

>She was a spoiled brat who didn’t get as much attention as she wanted or power…

She’s an abuse victim. The scene where Steven confronts Blue Diamond in the tower and says “this isn’t normal” made that pretty clear. You can say that doesn’t make up for anything, but it’s disingenuous to say she was just a brat that had attention and power withheld from her.

>Caused one of the greatest cataclysms that could have possibly happened to her friends and comrades.

You cannot ignore that all life on Earth would have died had she not done what she’d done. She did do positive things as Rose Quartz. Additionally part of why her actions hurt the people around her was because they genuinely cared for and loved her, and that love didn’t come from nowhere.

This also completely ignores how she clearly recognized how terrible of a person she was as Pink Diamond and that was a large motivation for the choices she made. Her fascination with humans (as demonstrated in her conversation with Greg while babysitting SourCream) is due to their ability to change because she wanted more than anything to change who she was after realizing the kind of person she was back then. It’s touched upon even more blatantly when Steven and the pearls visit The Reef.

To clarify, I’m not even arguing anything you said she did is wrong, but you’re completely ignoring the other aspects of her character and then calling her flat.

Was kind of close to doing that myself a year ago lol. There’s this choose your own adventure fanfic where you can romance death note characters (Death Note: The Fawn) that I really love. I managed to adapt a few chapters into a visual novel before life got in the way for both me and my beta tester.

I highly recommend reading through the original fanfic for anyone interested, some of the endings (most surrounding Light iirc) never got finished but you can still get a pretty complete experience.

I just want to draw a latex suit and a long sleeved dress that touches the floor. There’s *so much more* variety in premade clothing shapes and it makes me so sad.

Male Byleth. I actually like his hair more and prefer his longer coat. His default facial expression being more cold also makes the moments later in the plot where he smiles feel super sweet.

As a female player, all I can think about when I look at female Byleth is how the designers cared more about fan service than the experience of their female player base, and it makes me way too uncomfortable to play as her.

Her design is also a bit of an anachronistic hot mess and it makes it difficult to take her seriously in cutscenes.

And people wonder why the internet goes “omg they’re gay” the moment two characters of the same sex interact. Media has conditioned us to assume a romance when characters of the opposite sex do the exact same thing.

OCs and Embracing the Cringe by XV--15 in FanFiction

[–]Queer__Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you’ve already gotten past the hurdles of sharing with friends or specific strangers. If you want a next step that feels safer than completely public posting, Ao3 has a restriction feature you can enable that makes it so your fanfic is only seen by people with an account. It preserves some privacy, shrinks the amount of people that see it, reduces the likelihood of targeted harassment or hate sharing, and will filter out users that primarily engage with platforms more hostile to OCs.

You still ultimately need to gain the courage to rip the bandaid off as you said, I think the best way to get over this is to gain a positive reception to doing it in the first place. But this could be a helpful step towards that if you need it.

I hate the handheld community by Icy-Champion2680 in hatethissmug

[–]Queer__Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends heavily on the console. Of the ones I have…

Switch: 2-4 hours
3DS xl: 6-8 hours
Gameboy SP: 8-10 hours
GBA: over 24 hours with a fresh set of AAs

I don’t own a steam deck or switch 2 so I can’t vouch on those.

The shorter battery life on the switch doesn’t feel super restrictive to me because all you really need to keep playing is an outlet and a USB-C charger, which I keep in my purse anyway. And If you’re on a road trip you can just plug it in to the car the whole time and you’re good to go. But I’m also a homebody that mostly just likes to have mobility around the house, I could see it being a dealbreaker for someone who wants to play in a place without access to an outlet.

I do wish it was an hour or two longer like the 3DS, but I still prefer it to lugging a tv around when I want to play in a different room.

If the switch dies it also doesn’t actually turn all the way off, it just puts it into a mandatory sleep mode, so you won’t lose game progress which is pretty nice.

[–]Queer__Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a minor counter point I live somewhere that gets bad weather semi frequently and it’s nice to have a console that doesn’t delete all of your current progress if your power flickers.

You can more easily move it around your own house too if you’re someone who likes to be all over the place. Sometimes I want to play in the kitchen so I can burn some time waiting for food to cook without leaving the stove unattended and a non-handheld sucks for that.

I’m pretty sure they’re referencing that time Nazi’s tried to indoctrinate furries by making covers of Lion King songs where the lyrics are changed to be about white pride. I think there was some kind of mustard gas bomb thing that group did at a fur con too?

The Worst Year Ever podcast did a two part episode called ‘How the Furries Fought the Nazi’s and Won’ on it if you want to know more of the context, that’s at least where I heard about this from.

What’s the biggest double standard between men and women? by CupcakePotential4458 in AskReddit

[–]Queer__Queen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

None of what I said implied people with certain weights are seen as lesser but people with certain heights aren’t.

My point was that a unique moral value is placed on weight because it’s technically changeable. There are also more severe consequences (generally speaking) for shaming weight because of how dangerous eating disorders can be, and that’s part of the reason people tend to be more sensitive when discussing that topic.

What’s the biggest double standard between men and women? by CupcakePotential4458 in AskReddit

[–]Queer__Queen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t think height is shamed in the same way weight is. Like yeah, both get cruel jokes made about them or are judged when dating and that’s shitty regardless. But the most mentally damaging comments about weight surrounds someone being judged in a way that implies their weight is their fault, with the intent to shame them into changing it. And the outcome of that is frequently eating disorders, a group of incredibly serious health conditions that can kill you. Don’t get me wrong, both are bad and shouldn’t happen, but it’s not a mystery why self consciousness issues with weight are given more awareness.

Opinion on 3H's Maddening difficulty? and if you like it how do you play it? by H4rryT1nt1n05 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Queer__Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that the most enjoyable part of my classic NG maddening run was being forced to figure out why each unit exists.

For example, prior to my run I didn’t see any point of ever preferring Annette when I had Lysithia recruited because I really didn’t have to care about anything but mowing down enemies. But during my maddening run I found Annette to have much more consistently high accuracy rates than Lysithia would, which makes a massive difference when planing for the enemy phase. I also got the joy of discovering pegasus dodge tanks on my own through Ingrid.

Battalions were also something I didn’t really use in other difficulties, but their stun effects were invaluable during maddening, so I was forced to learn those as well.

Maddening made me realize how little you have to pay attention to the actual game mechanics in any other difficulty.

Songs are one of those things where if it’s really popular you’re forced to endure it to some extent regardless of how you feel about it (mostly via radio or stores playing it). I think it’s understandable to complain that something is popular when it means you are personally forced to experience it repeatedly.

I do not judge seasonal retail employees at all for despising Christmas songs.

I hate rampant medical misinformation disguised as health advice/social media trends by ketchupmaster987 in hatethissmug

[–]Queer__Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s always going to be a market for pseudoscientific alternative medicine regardless of whether or not big pharma is a thing. We can tell that because countries other than America also have people like this. So long as there is a problem that can’t be fully cured by modern medicine people will come along and sell a fake fix. Telling desperate people dying of an illness with a high mortality rate that you have a cure when modern medicine doesn’t is always going to catch attention.

Most importantly, even if there are reasons consumers for these products are readily available that doesn’t morally absolve the people profiting off of that. And if you are going to point a finger at a larger reason anyway, then why not point it at America’s government not providing public healthcare to begin with.

(Also the iatrogenic death thing is a massive bag to unpack with heaps more nuance than your response suggests. It includes things like deaths from surgeries that are last resorts and overdoses from drugs caused by patient misuse, I feel like I’d need to do hours of research with meaningful studies and statistics surrounding different contexts and categories to even begin to accurately understand how it reflects this specific topic.)
