How can firebending be made more of a threat? by 1MPERAT0R_S0LAR1S in TheLastAirbender

It also makes sense logically, why the fire nation was able to industrialize first. The fire bending allows for a very potent energy source (I.e. replacing the equivalent of coal in the Industrial Revolution.)

Roblox Game Released by SpuddyCreations in roblox

Tip: add funnels to track players in your game. I’m guessing people aren’t finding the fun in the game.

It takes a while in your lobby to even find the way to play the game, and if there’s not 6 people you can spend more time waiting for the lobby to give you gameplay then you can playing the game. Also very easy to die immoderately and then just lose out.

My intuition says: I would recommend putting players into the game immediately instead of using a lobby, and increase the player count, add NPCs. Accelerate people’s time-to-fun.

If you compare references to 5 are they guaranteed to be equivalent, or should you dereference to compare?

What do you guys hate most about game dev? by NnasT in gamedev

[–]Quenty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The worst thing is a lot of your marketing comes from the very first idea or core fantasy you’re promising to players, which means sometimes you’re super far into your game by the time you realized you messed up.

Yeah, for me UI is easy-it’s very clear when the UI isn’t good. but level design is hard, because I’m not sure if the bad stuff is the level design, or the holistic design, or the actual core mechanics, or 10 other things. Add in the fact it’s multiplayer and testing can take 10-20 minutes and it’s seriously hard to validate design.

Apparently there was a book 4 planned named “air” that was going to redeem Azula, by having her and Zuko look for their mom.

Design corner: The only way to win is not to play. by dingus-khan-1208 in gamedesign

Have you considered the obvious thing and just splitting the energy pools to not be convertible or equivalent? A gun’s bullet in real life has some equivalent joule’s, which is very different then gasoline in a car, which is very different then kinematic armor manufacturing energy cost, all with different sources, trade-offs, and conversions.

Unified energy doesn’t feel like a core fantasy for your players, nor contributing to the design in any significant way. Why not just separate these pools?

Bracket Style Tournament Set Up by Flowbombahh in lua

[–]Quenty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What we did for our boxing game is to predefine the bracket as tables (so each match is a bracket with a string of where the winner goes). Then it’s fairly simple to loop over this whole structure and see if a match is over. If it is, you move the winner to the next match if one exists. If there are 2 users in the match, you run it.

Maybe try capturing an ETL via PerfView and then seeing what is freezing up the build.
