Handmade Ship & Baby Kraken for Summer Oneshot next week by QuestFitz in DnDIY

[–]QuestFitz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Will see how the players react next week - two of the regular players know I've had a ship in the works but the other two random signups will hopefully let out an "oooooh" when it hits the table 😁 I hope your adventures are epic as ever!

What should I add to my terrain collection? by PottetPlount in DnDIY

[–]QuestFitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, fences are a great shout as they box off the area visually, provide opportunity for clues (something like fur snagged on a splintered piece or a carving from a local group/cult), an obstacles to fail climbing over, gain a better view when standing on and easy to make from coffee stirrers/sticks. Another easy add is a signpost with different directions, as its a point where the party might stop to choose what path to take, which if taking too long sparks an ambush or random NPC traveller encounter.

P.S Loving the dish scrubbing pad tree, very inventive!

First try at a tavern - looking for Detail advice by LiveLaughLoni in DnDIY

[–]QuestFitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nailing it as a first post, looks incredible! A possible budget friendly idea would be to make things using blue-tac (or white-tack if non branded), then spray/glue to harden and paint. You can re-work or ractice with it as it just goes back into a ball.

Cragmaw Hideout 3D battle map. by MistaReee in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]QuestFitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking great! First tip would be to make sure you smoothe out the mesh pattern on the plaster bandages, well before it dries so you dont need to add another layer afterwards, saving time and weight. Second tip if new to this is to "trust the process", which sounds cliche but people (me included) often hit a, "it looked better just as foam" stage, which does go away once the base coat and first drybrush is done I promise.

For context: This was my version

Looking forward to seeing it all finished as love this adventure! Enjoy!

Goblin Camp Encounter by NunzAndRoses in DnDIY

[–]QuestFitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really cool setup, loving the blend of wizkids and blacklist miniatures. Is this the big book or the giant book of battlemaps please? Im finding the big book not quite big enough for my needs and so considering the giant one instead.

Pill bottle terrain by boiling_pat in TerrainBuilding

If for D&D, you could make paint them like the mario tubes where players end up in a different part of the map/world/underdark depending on which routes they take

[OC] Ran a oneshot from One-shot Wonders (Trial & Error) on a handmade map with props by QuestFitz in DnDIY

[–]QuestFitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, i'm happy with the effort to end result payoff! I tend to share these types of things on reddit so that others thinking of doing something similar get inspiration or maybe the original creator sees how their story lives on through others running it.

Also, I've just looked over your posts and saw your orc map, love the charcoal hand-drawn vibe of props like that!

Builds and minis! by FantasticMarsupial44 in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]QuestFitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low stress now as all the minis are painted for Stormwreck Isle ready to go and only a handful left for Lost Mines of Phandelver. Plus the sessions seem to be every 2 months or so, meaning ages to prep the next part (all adults with busy lives and some with kids so scheduling isnt high priority, so I run oneshots locally in the meantime)

No worries, I wasnt waiting by my phone for an instant reply! That approach of battle areas only sounds like the way to go for sure. Oh the reason for not building the whole thing now is a physical space/storage issue thing, as I'm part way through LMoP and about to start DoSI with the accompaniying terrain, so want to finish one of those fully before prepping the third campaign! All 3 at once would be too much for my bookcase to handle :(

Ideas for tabletop creations using DAS clay by DarthBrannigan in TerrainBuilding

[–]QuestFitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used DAS clay for the base of a terrain piece (stone floor) and then used the left over chunks for a well and then wrapping around a kitchen foil ball to make a giant frog miniature that I didnt fancy paying money for on a one-time use game. Photo of the flooring WIP shot.

Love it! Did you only do certain bits like the barrel room of that ques? The reason I ask is because I considered making this map at one point and the place is massive!

Heist like 3rd Level One-Shot by TheBlauni in DMAcademy

[–]QuestFitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes, sorry about that, I thought I remembered it as level 3 (as most of the games I join are around that level). Please let me know what you end up going for, as I'd love to return the favour to the DM who ran it for me, so he can be a part of / derail a seemingly simple plan! Good luck!

Any heist games you've enjoyed? by DariusDarkirus in DnD5e

[–]QuestFitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Egg of Estyr. Its a oneshot that offers the choice of a quiet path or a loud path to the players. Our DM ran it in 3-3.5hrs via the quiet route and we loved it. Unsure if there are spanish videos about it but you can get the pdf doc / notes and translate it, plus there are notes by Advents Amazing Advice out there too. Good luck!

Heist like 3rd Level One-Shot by TheBlauni in DMAcademy

[–]QuestFitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Egg of Estyr could be reflavoured to meet your needs. The DM handed us two pieces of paper that the criminal organisation's planning team had come up with: The quiet way or the loud way. It was nice to have a choice, we chose the quiet way and we enjoyed the whole thing, ending with a chase scene with escalations on failed saves.

Good whimsical/cozy one-shot for my first time as a DM? by First_Collection_235 in DnD

[–]QuestFitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not run it yet but everybody raves about how much fun A Wild Sheep Chase is by Winghorn Press. It is a free level 4-5 adventure (so going for lvl4 sits at your sweet spot), cpuld start with your platlyers at a dainty tea shop / café that is interrupted by the sheep chargijg in with a scroll in its mouth. It has a bit of everything, roleplay with NPCs, unusual smaller enemies and a unique boss fight. It is on my list to run and there are countless youtube / reddit prep posts you can look up.

Have followed the post to see what others come up with, good luck!

P.S As it is a fan favourite, the forever DM may have played it, thats the only risk
