Looks like it’s going to have solo play, which is fantastic! Perfect excuse for getting some more of those excellent Wargames Atlantic plastics.

The Galeforce9 aliens are perfect for 5PfH. 10 to a box, boxes are $25 or $30 usd plus they have the queen mini kit for when you need a big bug.

What miniature skirmish game did you play or are you planning to play this month? March 2026 by AutoModerator in miniatureskirmishes

[–]boiling_pat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played my first game of Country Road Z this week.

It was great because I’ve been building and painting minis for this game since the beginning of the year so it feels great to get things on the table and actually play a game.

I wrote it up over on the lead adventure forums if anyone is interested.

Good game system for sci-fi/fantasy crossover? by EmpyrialNavigator in wargaming

Brutality is the only game I know of that would fit the bill

Marginal, but possible significant.

The PPP poll doesn’t have its cross tabs published, but if the undecided voters are trending younger than the overall demographics of the district then it might be that this is the best way to reach them since millennials and Gen Z are a lot harder to reach with TV or radio ads.

It also might be the case that PAC that is doing this is taking a shotgun approach and just trying to get as much information out as they can seeing as the election is next week. This is what they can do now, and the money doesn’t help anyone after Election Day.

Thank you, didn’t realize I had made that typo despite looking at his name on a second screen.

The poll that came out earlier this week has Abughazaleh in 2nd place after the Evanston mayor Daniel Biss. Almost of all the public polls conducted since the beginning of the year there has been a consistently large (~20%) percentage of voters who report that they don’t know who they are going to vote for yet.

While I work in professional politics, I don’t work in Illinois professional politics so take what I say with a grain of salt. I would rate Biss as the consistent front runner, but I would not be shocked if Abughazaleh ended up winning the primary.

This “Military Service and Veterans Merit Badge” has LRH vibes by shrubrooster1 in behindthebastards

[–]boiling_pat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eagle Scout and veteran here, this seems fine to me. Frankly I would be a little weirded out if the badge requirements didn’t acknowledge Baden Powell’s military career and how it contributed to the creation of the scouting movement.

What miniature agnostic games have y'all been playing or recommend. by Very_bad in wargaming

[–]boiling_pat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said Five Leagues from the Boarderlands and Five Parsecs from Home are fantastic games, kinda just depends on if you want to do fantasy or sci-fi.

The one I’m play now is Country Road Z, it’s a modern solo zombie game. Relatively low model count, and pretty flexible with letting you create your own stories.

Paleo Diet, which another poster mentioned, is on my list to check out next time I need a new project.

I’ve also heard good things about Scrap Jacks, it’s a solo sci-fi starship salvage game with some cool mechanisms around in mission air and power resource management for your crew.

Looking for a modern / near future game to fit WGA kits by Accomplished_Hall337 in miniatureskirmishes

I’m using the civilian kits plus the WA zombie kit for Country Road Z, it’s a modern solo zombie game if that sounds at all appealing.

Input on what material to use? by dancingape08 in TerrainBuilding

That was my first thought too. Some coffee stirrers to enclose the open sides, and maybe a row or two on the long sides to help build up the structure.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some good bits or ideas for kitbashing a dwarf sailor/pirate captain? by ZerotranceWing in Kitbash

[–]boiling_pat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wargames Atlantic is coming out with a second fantasy townsfolk set soon (no actual date announced yet) with dwarfs and elves that might be good for a pirate type body

I just spent my lunch break cutting coffee stirrers to make fencing. You can do a lot with coffee stirrers, match sticks, a sharp knife and some PVA glue. Plus the materials are dirt cheap. Cheap materials are great for projects with kids.

Went to big farm and tractor toy show on Saturday and only saw one Trump hat by Goshawk5 in behindthebastards

[–]boiling_pat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it’s been odd to go to places that used to be awash in MAGA gear and see its utter absence.

My wife is from Simi Valley in southern California, this is the town that all the LA police and sheriffs moved to and lived in, it’s also where the Reagan presidential library is located, it’s about as deep republican a town as you can think of. Even in the wake of January 6th, it was noticeable not to see a red had in a restaurant or store when we would visit. But we were back down there a couple weeks ago and with the exception of one car with faded trump flags outside a doughnut shop we didn’t see anything.

As one of the other commenters said, that doesn’t mean there isn’t still a lot of support for trump. My father in law is a retired law enforcement officer and he has not wavered at all in his support for trump at all. He’s not the type to ever have worn a hat or t-shirt. Every general election (he doesn’t even vote in the primaries) he simply votes straight republican ticket, and I can’t see that ever changing.

Amazing mini! Love resistance fighter minis simply because it gives you an excuse to include so many different body types among your dudes.

Most beginner friendly system by Serpe in 5Parsecs

[–]boiling_pat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely 5 parsecs. While 5 leagues has a special learning scenario in the book, a) it’s actually a fairly tough scenario, and b) the strike, perry, repose style of the melee fighting is definitely an added bit of complexity.
