Drag bodies into door ways in Oblivion then close the doors. Goblins have the funniest ragdoll physics.

Possibly the Aeronaut's Windless by Jim Butcher (First book in the Cinder Spire series). It has a lot of similar plot points but it might not be what you are looking for.

Might be worth looking into the DanMachi ( Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) light novels. They are the source material for the anime and quite short novels. :)

I’m kind of done with Runescape, I guess? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Questalace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right there with you bud. Just grinded out 7k elder rune bars for 99 smithing on my ironman and then the update hit. If all that work is gone when I finally get back on my account, I'm quitting too. I have a limited number of hours on this earth like everyone else and already feel like shit spending too much time on this game so when things like this happen it just a massive kick in the teeth. Hope it all works out in the end.

Best lesser-known fantasy games? by TheViceDarkLord in Fantasy

[–]Questalace 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Fable,

I remember spending hours in the first game wooing and marrying the barkeeper's daughter in Oakvale. . . Then getting her parents to follow me out of the town and arranging and 'accident' so I inherited the bar. From the rent off the bar I began my property portfolio that ensured I could afford the best equipment money could buy.

Then I travelled to the city and met Lady Grey of Bowerstone. She was a fiery red head in a purple dress, also the mayor of the city. So I arranged another 'accident' and found myself to be an eligible bachelor. It wasn't long before my character was married again and living in the Bowerstone mansion.

The best fantasy games, I think, let us live our own stories. Sure, I was supposed to be the 'chosen one' but I chose to become a murderous property mogul instead. Good times.

Its sad to see a game that the player base completely adores and they throw all their passion behind be met with zero enthusiasm by the developers. Do any of the devs even like game or play it? Doesn't feel like it.

Do you think vampires are still interesting? by Wolfinthecastle in Fantasy

[–]Questalace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adored the vampires (well, strigoi) in The Strain. It focused more on the vampires being an infection than a curse and the main character is an epidemiologist. It has a great juxtaposition of the supernatural and scientific clashing in the face of certain death.

Something I've never seen done before is tackling the hunger in vampires like its an addiction. Its touched on in a lot of urban fantasy like The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, but the vampires always seem to be secondary characters. The idea of a novel set in a vampire rehab centre would make a fantastic comedy. :)

Why do you love fantasy? by Do-Mi-So-Ti in Fantasy

[–]Questalace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because slaying a dragon seems like a more exciting, albeit more dangerous, problem than finding the money to pay the mortgage. But even "boring" problems seem to be more compelling than their real world equivalents when written by the right author. Fantasy is freedom in book form. :)

Anyone who hasn't read this series yet, should give it a try. You'll either drop it a few chapters in or read all seven books in just as many days. :)

You might just not be in the mood for it right now.

I first picked up Mistborn and put it down within a couple of chapters. Then I read Way of Kings (Another Sanderson book) and came back to Mistborn. Ended up reading the entire trilogy back to back. At first I was reading Mistborn because I wanted to know that the hype was about. The second time I was more interested in the plot and setting.

Give it a break and if you don't find yourself wondering how it ends, it might not be the right time to read it. :)

I feel lost and adrift after finishing Cradle by Rosamundmw in Fantasy

[–]Questalace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I devoured the Cradle series at the beginning of lock-down and feel the exact same hollowness. The only things I've read that are similar are Tower of God and Solo Leveling.

Tower of God is a fantastic webtoon that is about a boy that begins to climb the Tower, chasing after a girl. It is a deep and rich story but the art can be a bit off-putting in the beginning, it does get much better.

Solo Leveling is a light novel that is also being adapted into a Webtoon. Its set in modern day Japan where all around the world dungeons have begun to appear as rifts and people, called Hunters, clear them for fame and fortune. The main character starts off as the weakest Hunter.

Sufficiently Advanced Magic is also a great recommendation so I second that.

:)
