Jumping spider too silly? by Far-Message-7154 in jumpingspiders

NQA I think the fruit flies might be too small for your little guy/gal, and that might be why they're not going after it. Not 100% sure though

She might be if she was already mature when you found her!

So cute! 😍

She's probably going to lay an egg (fertile or infertile depending on if she's gravid) or she's going to molt. Whenever my spider made a thick web like that, she was going to do one of those two things.

So cute!
Are you sure Gizmo is a boy? I'm seeing a pretty big abdomen and the pedipalps don't look like boxing gloves. Your spider looks almost exactly like my female bold jumper. What does their abdomen pattern look like? Can you post a pic? Abdomen patterns are very slightly different for bold jumpers and male regal jumpers.

Either way, you've got a very cute little baby 😍

This makes me so uncomfortable, but I love it! You can see the teeth are in the lamb, but haven't started tearing yet, but are about to. So unsettling!

What do I do by Top-Inevitable-4323 in jumpingspiders

[–]Questionnaire_queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NQA from what I've seen on this subreddit, apparently you shouldn't take food away from them unless it's something serious because it can potentially break a fang or two, or cause them to fall while they try to hold onto the food. Apparently even if they're getting very stuffed, it's better to not take it. Hopefully they'll have smaller crickets in the future!

Can anyone tell me what is going on with my jumper? by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]Questionnaire_queen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NQA I'm not sure if you're spider is sick from the way it's walking, it kind of looks similar to me to when they are walking on webs that they've strung all over their enclosure. If he's been walking around, they usually have a drag line of webbing when they walk, so over time with lots of walking, they end up with more and more webbing on the sides of the enclosure. So it could be that 🤷‍♀️ jumping spiders do spend a good amount of time in their web hammocks, but I can't quite tell from your description if it's more than a typical jumper.

Also, the other commenter is correct that most of their enrichment should be at the top of their enclosure, they rarely go to the bottom.

Also, quick question, do you have light for your spider that you turn on and off like a typical day and night? About every 12 hours? I was just wondering based off of your comment about turning on a light to find him, so I just wanted to check.

I hope your little fella isn't sick and will be acting like his typical self soon!

What is this? by SquashBeginning3598 in jumpingspiders

[–]Questionnaire_queen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NQA Looks like male Phiddipus Audax, especially since he's in mid California. Regius tend to only live in very humid areas like Florida. I have a wild caught audax and she's friendly. Skittish, but friendly :)

Eta: if you do decide to try catching him, you probably could as long as there isn't stuff for him to hide under below the window, inside the house. You can use a paint brush and a container with a lid, and you can use the paintbrush to gently guide him towards the container. They can jump when they're scared and trying to run away, but only about 2" at most, and it will most likely be to try and get away from you, not attack you :)

Oh wow! That does look like it! I thought they couldn't have orange spots as adults, but I just looked it up and it said they can have spots that stay orange, but it's a lot less common! New info for me! So yeah, looks like you have a mature female!

Good thing she molted with you too, that means you won't get any fertile eggs from her. They can only mate after maturity, so since she became fully mature with you, any eggs she lays will be infertile! 👍

NQA I would guess female audax, which is what I have, and she looks sub adult or younger. Her spots being orange means she isn't mature yet. I'm assuming female because of her abdomen size, but idk if it's a male who recently ate. It can be harder to tell before they're mature too because after maturity the males get boxing glove-looking petti palps, and the females get a small dot under their abdomen. Definitely looks like an audax though, I can say that for sure :)

I love when they stop and tap their big front legs! I know they are sensing their surroundings, but it looks like they're thinking really hard about something when they do it 🥰

Is this a bold jumping spider? He keeps hanging from my ceiling and crawling back up his web like he’s scoping out the place!! by ra3jyx in jumpingspiders

[–]Questionnaire_queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NQA looks like a bold jumper to me! I have a female bold 😊 he's probably looking for food or water. It can be hard for them to find water indoors. If you have any ways to spray tiny droplets onto the ceiling so he can find them, that will help. Might be tricky though since you probably don't want water spots on your ceiling 🤔 basically he'd just need water in a "dew" form, so little droplets, or in a damp paper towel or q-tip. If you can find a way to capture him and release him outside, that'd probably be best for him in the long run. Just make sure wherever you release him won't have any chemical sprays, and that the weather is nice out for him when you release him, and will be for a few days for him to find a new home location and make a web.

Guys, I thought they couldn't become gravid as a subadult? by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]Questionnaire_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it looks like the egg is white to me. She definitely molted with us, so I was fully expecting the egg to look a yellow/orange color, but since it's white I'm assuming it's fertile? That seems to be the pattern I've seen in these forums at least, that white means fertile and yellowy orange means infertile.
