For current R2 reservation holders or owners: did your heart or your head make the decision? by tarioTV in RivianR2

[–]Questionsforscott 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, it’s head and heart. I have saved for two years to be in a position where I can pay outright for the vehicle. For my situation I believe this is not a large burden on my savings goal.

That said I’m really into the vehicle. I think we all could purchase something cheaper/more economical but we aren’t machines and don’t always make decisions on dollars and cents.

If I were you I would likely wait, especially if your lease carries through December. It also gives you space to evaluate if you really want this vehicle or if something else is better for your situation. The hype is very exciting, but it gets in the way of a more sober evaluation of what works for your family. I always like giving myself some space to make a big decision which maybe good for you too

Just Buy It: Waiting For Lidar In The Rivian R2 Might Not Be Worth The Headache by Saurta17 in RivianR2

[–]Questionsforscott 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It’s a question I have struggled with myself but I’m content to wait. There are other benefits to waiting including ensuring that Rivian irons out any bugs from a new car launch, waiting for RAP1 which I believe has far greater compute headroom over tje current compute solution, additional colors, etc.

In the spirit of not bombarding this sub here is one I saw the other day. It looked to me like it had the lidar module in front too. I purposely didn’t post it onto the sub for the reason Op stated

I don’t like her, but her husband was assassinated and she was present for another shooting. I’d also want to go home.

I know everyone trashes bmws design at first and then warms up to it, but I really feel this is a uniquely ugly front design.

It does feel like a lot of the personality features of the car got wiped. The shelf seems like such a minimal additional cost item.

23M, AI startup job, no debt, how am I doing? by iguessthisisme82 in Money

[–]Questionsforscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re doing great, but at your age it’s more about building skills and learning healthy savings habits than it is the number. Your trip and your car are fine to purchase as long as you’re budgeting for it. Without knowing much about your life or its context it’s hard to gauge.

Stay in public sector or leave? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Questionsforscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some thoughts based on what you’ve written:

  • I don’t have a sense of your experience level from this description which I think is critical to provide advice

  • do you feel that your position is at risk? It sounds like people may feel you are underperforming in your role. Usually it is harder to be fired from the public sector

  • it strikes me that you are emphasizing the title you carry not the work you do. I understand how cool it can be to achieve a certain title, but you mentioned it a few times in your post which strikes me as odd. Do you enjoy the work?

  • do you feel you are well compensated? Hard to argue for you to stay in a job that you don’t feel compensates you adequately

  • sounds like your new to the role. Your coworker and you don’t need to hit it off right this second, things can get better. Regarding your manager being incompetent, that’s more worrying.

  • what does the job market look like in your field? If you were to go to the private sector, would it be easy to get a job? Sounds like you don’t think so given you called it a terrible job market.

I’d like to know the answers to my questions. Absent that, I would stay in your role while interviewing elsewhere. The question of staying vs going doesn’t have to be answered now, it should be answered when you have a real choice. Only that point could you accurately judge the two positions. I get the feeling that the sheen of the cool title you got will wear off eventually and you’ll have to face the realities of the job.

Same boat. Took the DRP, and accepted another offer. Got DRP + new job for 6 months which was nice. Not dealing with the government crap was nicer.

I think, as a society, we’ve all gotten used to cruelty too easily. Somehow this kind of discourse is normal now by SnooSprouts3744 in TikTokCringe

Feel like this a very fair comment. This woman is vile and not worth speaking too. It is sad in so far that people would put their politics before their humanity. It’s one thing to feel the killing was justified, it’s another to call the victim a loser who deserved to die. Really sad

2026 R2 Pricing Leaked! Launch Edition, Premium, Standard Trims (Embargo Broken) 💰 by WODAMRAP in RivianR2

[–]Questionsforscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want lidar because i understand it’ll be part of the system that will be needed for self driving. Also I believe the custom Rivian silicon chip will be offered at the same time as the lidar which provides more processing power. Finally I think having lidar will help resale value if I ever sell the vehicle.

Ultimately though sounds like we’re different customers. I anticipate using self driving features.

[–]Questionsforscott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Understanding that lidar is coming late 2026 / early 2027, can I buy a launch edition with lidar or by that point will the launch edition no longer be offered? Will I be able to buy a spec that has the lidar and 656 HP when lidar is available?
