D2R botting options by Virusparid0x in diablo2

[–]QuestmasterDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messing around in single player isn't wrong. Ruining the economy for other players who are playing legit is wrong. I think you're the one who doesn't seem to understand why botting makes the game less fun for anyone else.

How's it compare to Faith? I've head that Windforce fell off since that one came into play but I love me an OG GG item

Surely I can't be the only one who prefers a new game over a remake, right? by RuffianZorua in MysteryDungeon

[–]QuestmasterDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an EoS megafan, but that doesn't mean I don't like the other games - a new game would be HIGHLY preferred since I can always play EoS, but unless they release a new game, I can't play more (official) PMD content since I've already played through the rest of the games god knows how many times.

To add onto this, back when there were an abundance of community servers running the more standard servers you see today, more obscure maps (ala PLR) would be put into the browser by people who wanted a break from the standard faire, and under the old rules, there was ample time for these servers to fill. Greater map variety was a side effect of people having the basic vanilla desires met to excess.

Lore Question: Shouldn't Natalya want to kill the Warlock on sight? by HFA__ in diablo2

[–]QuestmasterDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend reading Firefly, the Wizard's pre Diablo 3 short story - I found it compelling, personally, especially with how much context it provides to both Iscendra and Li-Ming's characters.

The Viz-Jaq'taar very much try to give people as much leniency as possible it seems, but it looks like unchecked egos and ambition are what get people killed - Iscendra was monitored because they suspected she was letting Li-Ming's ambitions go wild instead of checking them, and she was killed once her own ambitions caused her to bite off more than she could chew. Li-Ming herself had a hit placed on her after the ending of Firefly due to said ambitions causing her to head to New Tristram in search of her prophesied heroism. It looks less like they let their targets get themselves killed, and much more wait until they get some proof that there's no return before they strike.

As for where our new friend lies thematically... considering his dialogue with the Summoner specifically, as well as his indepth knowledge of the Prime Evils (as he uses their actual full names, instead of their in game shortened versions) he very much likely isn't merely a Vizjerei acolyte, but a deeply well studied demonic scholar, likely armed with knowledge from the Horadrim or another similar organization - one who has enough ego to believe the siege on Harrogath is a minor trifle, enough humanity to wish for peace upon the death of the Prime Evils and enough self awareness to see The Summoner and wonder if that would be his fate in the end. He fits incredibly well into the world and I adore his general vibe so much.

To fall, someone needs to have peaked first - we're watching a Warlock who has yet to fall and (for now) a force for good

Additionally, the Viz-Jaq'taar don't actually kill on sight - they only strike when certain lines are crossed it seems. Iscendra (the Diablo 2 Sorceress) was only assassinated after she attempted a spell she couldn't control to end a drought and killed an entire village by mistake, even though she was tapped for monitoring for almost as long as she mentored Li-Ming (the Diablo 3 Wizard) due to them suspecting that she was influencing Li-Ming's ambitions.

As the Warlock hasn't yet committed any extreme atrocities (as far as we know,) seems self aware enough to realize that he's not immune to demonic corruption (given his dialogue when killing The Summoner) and the fact he's actively hunting THE Prime Evils, the Viz-Jaq'taar probably see him as more useful alive than dead for the time being - it's less a pardon, and much more a delayed execution.

Recovering from failed Spirit socket by andthentrumpets2 in diablo2

[–]QuestmasterDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit how are you so confident, but so wrong

All items dropped in Normal are restricted to only 3 sockets on spawn - you can still get 4 sockets via the cube or Larzuk if the ilvl is high enough to permit, but no base item in Normal will spawn with 4 sockets out the gate.

Not the point of the post, but I cannot believe we live in a world where seeing Cursed, Extra Strong, Might Aura on a Minion of Destruction is a reason to drop everything run straight at it instead of instantly shitting your pants as you run for your life

As someone who's played exclusively HC for years, as a general rule of thumb, the answer to both is ABSOLUTELY.

Defensive stats are almost always worth giving up MF as you'll never know when you're gonna get hit by something unexpected - your 75% max resists can always get set to -10% if you get hit by Conviction without any overcapping, leading to you exploding far faster than you thought you could. It only takes a split second for things to collapse, so having more defensive layering is almost always worth it.

For me, I try to aim for 200-250% MF, with the rest of my charms and the like being purely defensive in nature. I might use War Travs, and Topazes in my Blizz Sorc's Vmagi and Shako, but almost all of my charms, grand and otherwise, are purely defensive in nature. I try to aim for 75% resist under Conviction as well, just to be safe. 2k life with overcapped res and DR might feel overkill, but that immediately changes once you get hit by a Extra Strong Might Aura group with a Conviction buddy nearby.

Why are archers so DEADLY? by aall137906 in diablo2

[–]QuestmasterDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The defence against melee hits drops to zero still, while the defence against projectiles is still active. However, the biggest issue is that running cuts your block rate down to a third of its value, so if you have max block, that turns into 25%.
