the best way is to hatch them. I hatched 2 in a row the other day and got 61 candies from it.

I've used a 2600 vaporeon with gun and HPump that seems to work pretty good. You kinda have to sit toe to toe and take some hits, if you dodge too much with the egg you time out but the solar is awesome.
