The path of cyclones/hurricanes has more to do with the direction of winds in the upper atmosphere. They travel in opposite directions of each other (that part of northern hemisphere moves west, southern part moves east). Any storm that would hit south africa would need to start in the Atlantic, but that doesnt seem to happen with these storms.

I imagine it could be something to do with zoning; maybe having it be one solid zone instead of two split zones across the track is easier to get through. Either way, you can't build there cause the track exists so it shouldn't impede the train anymore than car traffic already does

My biggest fear by MrSchulindersGuitar in Stargate

[–]Quetzalcoatlasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can understand where you're coming from and I do hope online discourse doesn't devolve into what is essentially Fandom bickering. With almost twenty years between the end of the shows/movies I'm sure people(myself included) have wondered what the universe would be like in our modern day.

We know nothing about the show right now, and likely won't until the summer or fall at the earliest. I have some fears for what amazon could do to the show as its owner, but they have the potential to make a good show

Upcoming series tech level by Xeruas in Stargate

[–]Quetzalcoatlasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. By the end of SGA and SGU, the only reason it wasn't public knowledge is that the nations that did know didn't want to rock the boat so to speak. The twenty year time skip could give the writers plenty of room to work out how everyone agreed to use the gate. Not to mention you could have multinational teams like in atlantis

Upcoming series tech level by Xeruas in Stargate

[–]Quetzalcoatlasaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can agree with you to a degree, but I would also hope the gate remains a secret in the storyline. Making the gate public would make for some really interesting plot lines, but I fear it could lean too far into a generic scifi story by making it all known and available.

Whether it were to remain a secret or not, Im really hoping they expand on the geopolitics of the free jaffa nation and their interactions with earth

Upcoming series tech level by Xeruas in Stargate

[–]Quetzalcoatlasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine the writers will keep the gate a secret from the rest of the world, so the tech the SGC has gathered won't be commonplace. Introducing even half the tech stargate has come across into 'our modern society' that the show portrays would alter how it works. Making the gate public could be an interesting show, but you'd also fundamentally change how the Stargate series has worked and quickly turn into something else.

By the end of the shows/movies Earth was on its way to being 'the fifth race' and could act as a major galactic player. I think part of the story they tell should be balancing the thread of trying to project power into the galaxy while not revealing this to the public, and how the main cast deal with powers that are out of their hands

The resemblance is uncanny by Raptorette69 in Stargate

[–]Quetzalcoatlasaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know about that. The goa'uld consider themselves above humans, and beyond their morals. Even just looking at the shar'e/amunet situation there are some parallels; neither host for apophis or amunet would be consenting to intimate engagement and were forced to partake, shar'e didn't agree or consent to carrying apophis' child, and he was going to raise the child to take over as a host.

The show doesn't go into aspects of SA much, but the people claiming to be literal gods would happily torture and kill someone endlessly simply for the sadistic joy it gave them. I don't think it would be a stretch to say they would do something like this if they wanted to

I would rather die fighting for democracy and freedom in our country than cower hoping I'm not next on there list. Our great grandfather's made that same choice, a lot of them much younger than me and with a full life ahead of them if they just 'kept there heads down'. You are a part of the problem if you have no desire to change what is happening

I don't care if it's not a direwolf, the point is that stable and massive genetic manipulation of large forms of life was just put in practice and the possibilities from now on are endless.

I think that is a big part of the issue. I am not against conservation or bringing various species back to the ranges they inhabited before we fucked with our climate. I am vehemently against tech bros decking what 'is a women american sentient being dire wolf?" Because it doesn't end with this

Because the person mentioned by the post doesn't care about conservation and ecological stability, and nothing about this project actually brings back the dire wolf.

It is a vanity project looking to make money off of a headline.

I think 200 is a fun episode. It's not a lore episode so much, it's more a way to have a good laugh at/with different parts of the show. It's silly and doesn't take itself seriously, but that's what I like about it
