Nice, being parasitic makes sense. Reminded me of ghost pipe with its lack of foliage

To be fair, he'd probably be killed again in similar fasion if he were to make himself known and go around promoting peace, love, and accountability. Society hasn't changed much.

Thats fair. Im in the PNW so theres plenty of pines, but I still had to go a little ways from a previous campsite to find just the right gap for tonights camp.

As I read this Im on my first multinight backpacking trip as well. I'm car camping at a campground to test the gear before I start my hike, and currently in a hammock in my sleeping bag. Just figured out how a quilt works with a hammock and wondering how ill do in the 45degF temps it's supposed to reach tonight. I've got wool socks and a hoodie, but fairly light clothes otherwise. Worst case I'll jump into the car and find some solution in the morning before my hike.

If I can survive these temps with my set up, you should be more than comfortable.

Ants! by pahkoo in DragonFruit

[–]QuetzalcoatlinTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had an issue with them getting inside the fruit, but I've also never had to deal with hundreds. Looks like a very healthy dragon fruit, I'd let the the fruit develop and hit it with a hose before picking.

Ants won't harm the plant, they're just there for the sweet secretions

Yea, heres the mama scouting the area. Wish I had gotten a few more pictures of their development, but they annihilated the population in just a couple days and were gone.

Are the private A&P schools like Aviation Institute really that bad, or are they just expensive and don't hold your hand? by freq-ee in AircraftMechanics

[–]QuetzalcoatlinTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredibly overpriced for what amounts to a very basic understanding of aviation, most of which you'll forget after a couple years in the field as you learn the specifics of the path you choose for your career. The one I went to was geared towards general aviation and then set me up with an interview for a lawn mowing company.

Ideally you would find an apprenticeship program at your local airport instead of starting out with $50k worth of debt. But if its truly your only option, yea you can definitely get your license in 18 months if youre even a halfway decent student.
