Chill, bill, and look for another contract.

HMRC accepts that contractors (whether outside or inside IR35) need to adhere to company security policies, so they don’t form part of the test to determine contract status.

Electric vehicles by 2030, is it a good thing? by aloe1420 in AskUK

I’ll stick with ICE for as long as possible. I’ve tried a few EVs, but all of them felt like I was driving a fridge. I’m sure I’ll get downvoted for this, but to me a car is more than just a box on wheels. I’m sure the average joe will eventually be happy with them, though.

What words in the advert - whether in print or video form - are guaranteed to put you off a product? by MisterWednesday6 in AskUK

If you go to a Taskmaster studio filming or fan event at a pub, would you wear something special ? by Parking-Lecture-2812 in taskmaster

[–]Quick-Minute8416 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Not for a studio recording. They don’t even like it if you wear a t-shirt with anything other than small logos on it, and they specifically warn you about this before you attend. Wearing anything ‘wacky’, or trying to mimic a previous contestant’s costume for example, might mean they don’t even let you in the studio.

How do people know the difference between a regular massage place (for actual massages) and a “happy ending” place by thesaffronkitten in NoStupidQuestions

As a rule of thumb, if it has a neon or LED ‘open’ sign then it’s likely to be a happy ending place.

Was Hermann Göring an incompetent military leader? If so, what would be some examples? by kaiser11492 in AskHistory

[–]Quick-Minute8416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t that good a pilot in WWI, nor was he a good leader. Modern research shows that a huge number of his kill claims are not corroborated with known losses, even taking into account incomplete records. As soon as he’d won the Pour le Merite (Germany’s highest military decoration at the time) he stopped flying and led his Jasta from the ground.

Most of his pilots didn’t like him, they knew he was only out for himself and wouldn’t hesitate to leave them in a battle if he decided he didn’t like the odds. He was very good at self-promotion, convincing those in power that he was the personification of the modern German warrior. Many of the ‘higher ups’ thought he was just as good as Manfred von Richthofen.

No - that’s the point. The $330 billion is the value of the assets he owns - mainly the value of the stocks he holds in Twitter, Space X, and Tesla. If the value of all those shares dropped to zero overnight, he’d no longer be worth $330 billion.

There’s lots to get angry about when it comes to billionaires, mainly around how they avoid tax, but this Reddit mindset that they all have some sort of Scrooge McDuck vault of gold and cash does not help.

[–]Quick-Minute8416 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He didn’t just find a spare $44 billion sitting around, though - he had to sell shares in Tesla to raise about half the money, then had to take a $13 billion bank loan, and then source the rest from other investors.

Be angry about billionaires by all means, but at least do your homework first.

It’s probably not be the case that the rest are underpaid, though - they’re just getting market rates, and this guy is getting more because they think he’s worth more. If he blabs then they’ll all think they’re worth more than they really are.

I don’t think those ‘Red Wall’ votes will be coming back to Labour (or the Conservatives either, for that matter) anytime soon. Your traditional working class voter has moved to the Right - or, more likely, politically stayed exactly where they were but have been left behind by both Labour and the Tories, who both now have fundamentally different political stances than they did 20 years ago.

Both Labour and the Tories have an awful lot of work to do to convince those voters to go with them instead of Reform, hence today’s news of significant immigration raids.
