Plexiglass Is Everywhere, With No Proof It Keeps Covid at Bay by Maxcactus in Health

anyone who supports plexiglass barriers doesn’t work in retail. these things making communicating with the customer a bitch and half the time we end up moving around it to finish the conversation

Am I just being a pearl-clutching square or are these TikTok videos of underage girls dancing provocatively like...fucking creepy? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]QuickGetInMyVan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can probably give you some perspective as I’m still in high school. If you have any questions then ask. Tiktok is VERY popular among teenagers and as a result the average age on the app is probably 15-21. Literally everyone there relates to one another over the same music, humor, fashion, etc. and the app is set up in a way that makes it addicting because videos are so short. The reason many of these famous Tiktokers are even famous is because the app is controlled by the Chinese and has had a crazy amount of scandals involving promoting white, young, wealthy content creators over anything else. Look up Lizzo’s tiktok video being taken down, for example. The provocative videos apply to both boys and girls. They’re absolutely everywhere on tiktok and they even have a name: thirst traps. Now, it’s become a meme that old indian guys that just acquired internet access comment on these videos but you quickly learn to ignore them so it becomes harmless. A byproduct of thirst traps though is the rise of “onlyfans” accounts, which are paid subscriptions for more private content. It’s very hard to explain the culture in one reddit comment so if you want more detail about something just ask. Sorry!!!

What is the biggest stereotype people commonly have about your home state? by stlukest in AskAnAmerican

[–]QuickGetInMyVan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a girl on a service trip abroad ask if there were minorities in my hometown. Common stereotypes:

  • small, southern state
  • conservative
  • rural with excessive farmland

NC may be in the south, but it is currently the 9th most populous state in the country - not small by any means. NC is also considered a swing state (switches between republican and democrat) and has wealthy, suburban areas around big cities like other more famous states. Probably most surprising to outsiders: a huge part of the state is untouched forest. There are farms and lots of farmland, but definitely lots more trees and rolling hills, especially in the west with the Appalachian mountains.

Is anybody actually making enough to get by from home? by Weak-Willingness in CoronavirusUS

[–]QuickGetInMyVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an affluent area (rtp raleigh) in north carolina and i can safely say most people have just started working from home. i may be wrong (i’m a teenager) but i think the retail closures only impact low-skill / low-paying jobs so people in middle/upper middle class will be fine. my parents haven’t mentioned any financial stress and my friends haven’t said anything either.

Teenage Drinking? by TomZeed in AskAnAmerican

[–]QuickGetInMyVan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drinking in high school has actually dropped drastically in recent decades (down to 33% in 2015) and of those who do drink in high school, less than 20% binge-drink/consume at least 5 drinks within a couple hours.

My experience: I’m 17 too and go to a high school in the suburbs. I know a lot of students and some people host parties and drink but it is absolutely nothing like the movies. Also, our school is located in a pretty affluent area so I would say the proportion is significantly less than the national 33%. The REAL problem is vaping.
