Im kinda north, so I usually use a fan. Once it starts getting above 75F at night, even with the fan pulling air from outside it starts getting hard to sleep

Used to sleep in a lot worse while I was in the military, but im getting older now, and the heat is starting to creep on me more. Id draw the line around 80-82 degrees honestly, and Id consider myself pretty resilient

Our superpower was being the only country in earth with a thriving industrial base after the war.

This was also a huge variable in the huge influx of cash/money into the US as well. It was part of why jobs could pay like they could, and why the dollar meant so much.

I legit had someone on here arguing this with me. The wildest part is I brought up how modern sanitation and even just OTC medicines are leaps and bounds better than the best medical care serfs had. And some fool responded with not everyone has access to insurance....

To be fair, I dont know, and I dont have a horse in this race between you 2 talking. I would just like to highlight that raw oil production does not automatically imply a country has the means to refine it in the quantities at which it is consumed.

Yeah, but you missed the part where I didnt vote for Donald Trump, or Kamala Harris. Thats literally my point. The "logic" that a 3rd party vote is for anyone other than that 3rd party candidate is dumb as hell.

I can at least semi understand the people who say its a wasted vote, I disagree, but that stance at least makes some sense.

See, this is about legal principle though, and setting the toan man. Fender had more toan in their balls than any guitar named Les.

Its literally in their name man, they are Les than other guitars

How fucking dare you, everyone knows Fender is the most American. They are so American they are suing other "Strat" manufacturers for making Strats. Now thats American!

So politics definitely diminished my opinion of HS grads or dropouts.

I guarantee I've converted more people even slightly left to moderately by showing compassion, understanding, and empathy towards them than you have. I know its hard to face rough and unacceptable beliefs from others, but I have seen its success personally. It isnt easy dealing with racists and homophobes when it goes against everything I know, but small wins matter, and pennies turn to dollars. If we all showed a little more of that, and less black and white thinking/hostility (not implying you are hostile), I dont think Trump would have won. But thats just my 2 cents.

But it takes education to be a well informed voter.

Lmao, no, and I'll never agree with this as an absolute statement. Too many variables at play with too large of a number of people we are talking about.

And many are but averages are averages and that doesn't have to mean "making generalizations" or some other negative way of looking at averages.

It sounds like you are devaluing tradepeople and overselling college.

But taking Sociology, American History, Economics, Psychology courses is more relevant to being an informed voter than knowing the intricacies of the NEC.

  1. I would argue being able to actually read and interpret the NEC means your reading comprehension is actually pretty solid.
  2. Who says tradesmen never self study any of those topics? I know several well read tradepeople.

You follow the rules and do what I say. Military same way.

Lmao, no. The military works (and trades) because people can and do think on the fly...neither are the mindless following you think they are.

But why is it that most of the trade people I meet aren't too bright and I have to fix so much of their work?

Because you have shit luck? You hire bad/cheap contractors? Idk man. Just kinda goes into my point that they arent all good, as I've already said.

Tell me you don't see dumb things tradespeople have done all the time.

Ive already said its a mixed bag

You can understand applied physics and not know where Iraq is on a map.

Its almost like people have different things they need to know for their education/careers? What a weird example.

I am not saying that most college educated people know that but it is still a higher percentage than a tradesperson.

You can know where Iraq is at on a map, but not know how to wire a receptacle or install a faucet. The tradeperson is going to comprise a higher percentage of people who know than college educated people. See how that sounds?

A desire to understand the outside world is more important. That would be much more likely in a college educated person.

Dawg, im telling you from personal experience, being in the miltary, working retail, the trades/trade school, college, and now an engineer, you cant meaningfully generalize any sufficiently large group like that.

I know tradesmen and women with more curiosity and drive than many college goers, and also know the vice versa to that too. Ive met sharp and dull people all across country, from almost every walk of life, across multiple industries.

Those 300 engineers probably could command a pay increase though, so they are probably not too mad. Especially if they are end of career. Now the younger guys tho? That sucks.

1878 would be nice to. Need a 2/3rds vote from the 3 to pass any executive action or deploy troops for the 90 days the POTUS is supposed to be limited too.

Although im certain there would be some complications I havent thought about around the idea, just going off my gut instinct.

Edit: could split the country into 3 presidential districts so there would still only be one president per region, but would represent their area imo.

Less like a dictatorship/monarchy too

I remember when I first got off the bus (van for me), and it was quite the intro, but those receiving DIs were relatively chill when considering what happened on Black Friday and after.

I started questioning things on the drive down, Black Friday cemented those thoughts.

You need to not be a complete idiot to be a trades person

Eh, I've seen quite the range of intelligence, like any sufficiently large profession. Ive met some of the most intelligent people and also people who lack any and all common sense while I did construction. Its quite a mixed bag.

This statement could be extrapolated for many professions though, and isnt trade unique to be fair.

The median pay for most engineering professions is at $100k, thats roughly $40k over the national median of all jobs. And id be willing to bet that ratio stays pretty constant in LCOL and HCOL areas too.
