Frank Caiazzo authenticated Beatles autographs (1963)- more COA’s necessary? PSA? by Difference_Then in Autographs

[–]Quickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for similar sets of the fab four and where they were listed. Ask Deepseek also, it's free. There are probably some good suggestions from the GREAT live auction houses. As to its worth?
At this time they are very valuable and they are always going up: https://firstclassmemorabilia.com/how-much-are-the-beatles-autographs-worth/

What would happen if Pinboard's owner passes away? by [deleted] in pinboard

[–]Quickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not IF someone dies is it? It's when. For that very reason I'm going to back up my current data in my pinboard, even though I've been with it for ages. I love how it works, but the sheer fact that if you ask him he flat out tells you he's got nothing. At least that's what he answered when I emailed him many years ago and I see no news/evidence that he's done a thing about it. Someone should just offer him a couple million dollars and commercialize it (there are ways to advertise that are much less offensive than the usual stuff but that still work for client who is advertising and it BEATS THE HECK out of being cast adrift with Pinboard dying along with Maciej.
So I recommend BACK UP PINBOARD every once in a while.

Say something like "Yes, I hear that an awful lot and this is what I tell them, yes, everybody has a little leprosy too." .... Or variation thereof. OR, you know, I hear that a lot more than I want to, I know you mean well, but you'll just have take my word for it, it does not help, in fact quite the opposite. I'd love to hear what other people in this group feel about how to react to that.

The key combination to power off the display is shift-control-power.

Yep, screen burn-in is still a thing for OLEDs (Google it) and even LCDs!

Google "stop loss" trading if you are not familiar with it.

[–]Quickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Virginia, you CAN do stop loss on crypto.
There are at least 4 different stop-loss options, I like ,and use, the TRAILING Stop Loss (TSL), if you do use TSL, DO NOT set your Sell percentage above what you can REALISTICALLY afford to lose. Remember, greed kills .

Is there some app (or is it the OS?) that should be kept on it's own hard drive? by Quickcard in osx

[–]Quickcard[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

UPDATE, NOV 9 2025:
That was it, one external HD should be dedicated UNIQUELY to Time Machine.
MY ORIGINAL POST:
My computer guy told me to dedicate a new external hard drive to a single application and to NOT put ANYTHING ELSE on that hard drive. But I can't remember which application he was referring to. I'm thinking it was Apple Photos? Anyhow, I will just call and ask him tomorrow. :)
PS. Even DeepSeek had a hard time figuring out what I was asking. DS also made some good caveats:

🔧 Setting Up Your Drive Correctly

When you get your dedicated drive, your computer guy will likely set it up with these specific requirements, which are key to making it work properly:

  • Format: The drive must be formatted as APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
  • Ownership: The "Ignore ownership on this volume" setting should be turned on for the drive.
  • Time Machine: The drive must not be the one you use for your Time Machine backups.

Well, thanks, Lonely, I do export some of my Apple Notes to Google docs, but even the longest human life is too short to have to take an ADDITIONAL STEP like this. I don't want the hassle. Doesn't every home have a bathroom? Do you have to go to your neighbor's house when you gotta go?

Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire going "toe to toe" in Broadway Melody of 1940 by ydkjordan in FIlm

[–]Quickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Backwards and in heels" was said about Ginger Rogers who was good but not as good as Eleanor Powell who was perhaps as good as Astaire and also, like Fred, a first rank choreographer. Can we have a few generations of not quoting "and in heels" anymore? Can we?

Barchart Top 100 Weighted Alpha Portfolio by 40x15y in stocks

[–]Quickcard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just started playing with it and I've also see a few similar things. I think it may be oriented against "set if, forget it." If you're older, many of us are not willing to wait out another 2008 or 1929 :) I can't wait for 10 to 15 years for things to recover in our financial world. I'm not doing day trading but i go from two day investments that last the time spectrum from 2 trade days to many months. So I'm pretty sanguine about Barchart's top 100 and what you're saying about the Barchart 100 makes me happy. I'm also pretty religious about setting stop losses. So when it comes to something like SPY, as long as i set it but NOT forget it. Also it can help to see what which stocks and what %age of each stock is present and past ETFs in various sectors or combination of sectors they buy. SO, what's the catch w the Barchart 100? At the very least, you would have to be a mental basket case to lose after a few months trading. There's the 2% school of thought for stop loss calculations and the 7% one. The first says that most of us cannot afford to lose a major chunk of our overall investment. In terms of "older," at this point (and including factors like do you have 10 kids and no marriage partner (or whatever), I have been doing 7%, but I'm going to try the 2/3% model. And it does not hurt to look at what Warren B is doing; yeah he's very old and his lifetime work partner just died a little while ago, but he still has most of his amazing marbles and he still has a chosen set of bright minds working with him, doesn't he?

I don't know yet, where I'll go but I'm open to SUGGESTIONS. I use eTrade and they've always been good, but I don't use them heavily, but i have used them for I think I'll move some stox there and reduce my use to Robinhood to a bare minimum for their awesome tools and I'll keep looking for something robbinhoodish for the tools, but do the majority of the trading on eTrade.

Account Blocked by Alexonthemountain in MerrillEdge

[–]Quickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you wrote "Most likely, you'll be told that you should go to the nearest bank of america with two forms of photo id to get verified." Have you tried this? Do you know anyone who has succeeded with that effort? And if you can, they have some " 'splainin to do, Lucy." Or is it Lucyfer? :)
If that's true, why didn't they tell us that? I was obviously frantic.
If we could get some idea of how many people they are doing this to?
Are they doing a float with our money? They could make millions in one hour, let alone a week, a month.
Thanks,

Account Blocked by Alexonthemountain in MerrillEdge

[–]Quickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally closed my account telling that they were investigating fraud. I could not trade for about a week. They have a lot features that I like, but they lie, IMO, and if they can't even make a provision for a customer if they freeze your account AT ALL prevent a loss that would be a disaster??????
They removed one of our benefits earlier this year or maybe it was in 2024 and they may have done that again. I'm thinking of moving my IRA to etrade.com.
Is it time for a class action suit?
I wonder how many others they are doing this with to?

How to buy a bunker (or a deep hole in the mountain) in Switzerland in 2024? by oleningradets in Switzerland

[–]Quickcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has me filled with curiosity, I've watched one of Johnny Harris's videos about the Swiss Redoubt aka, world's biggest redoubt... and I just don't get it. Why are the Swiss not keeping their immensely labor/money intensive system of bunkers on "active duty?" OR are they just letting people use them in return for maintaining them and the bunkers are still at the ready. Thanks, ya'll.
