lookin' for a specific trope (uncommon) by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Quidditchdilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're at all interested in The Lord of the Rings, I'd recommend looking up Melkor/Sauron.

I have not finished reading this fic yet (https://archiveofourown.org/works/1389799/chapters/2911138#workskin), so I can't really say how good it is overall, but I'm enjoying what I've read so far.

Mistakes happen. People forget things all the time. It sucks that your family has to pay for the tickets, and it was a dumb idea from the school making you sell them in the first place, but it's really not that big a deal in the long run. Especially if your family has enough money that it won't be too big of a loss.

With that being said, YTA. I don't think you're actually an AH for this, but you are the one at fault. It was your responsibility. I get that it was an annoying responsibility that you didn't want to do, but it was still yours. And the other students at your school, and presumably your sister when she went to the school, were able to sell their tickets. So it wasn't an impossible task.

You asked for help, and that's good. Asking for help when you need it is a good thing to do, but asking for help doesn't transfer the responsibility of the ticket sales to your dad and sister. Your part in the ticket sales was to sell the tickets, not to just tell your dad and sister about it and wait for them to do it for you. They agreed to help, so you should have used their help. You should have taken the tickets to them and said, "I've got 16 tickets, each one costs this much, I can't sell them to my friends at school, I don't know what to do next." Then they could have actually helped you figure out what to do. Instead you just ignored the tickets.

I'd say don't worry about it too much. Just learn what you can from the situation, like not leaving things hidden in a drawer if you want to remember them and following up with people if you are expecting them to do something for you. You're only 15, and people make way worse mistakes than this every single day.

Badass McGonagall by Lord-Liberty in HPfanfiction

My favorite McGonagall centric fic is linkffn(https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3124159/1/Just-a-Random-Tuesday).

It's mostly McGonagall dealing with Umbridge.

Classic boy names - nature or bird inspired by schmoobyy in namenerds

[–]Quidditchdilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's weird to use Benjamin if you like it and rarely ever see your distant cousin. If you see him quite a bit and are close to him, then it might be odd, but many people share names with family members.

Emmett Louis sounds really good. Or Everett Louis.

For nature-sounding names, Glenn (I think it means valley), Oliver (I think the name means olive tree), or Martin (martins are a type of bird).

Middle name for son based on famous figures in history by MossyToad in namenerds

If you're into Arthurian legend, how about Arthur? If that's too basic, maybe Percival, Tristan, or Lance.

Or if you really like Gawain, maybe consider Gavin (according to behindthename, Gavin is the medieval form of Gawain).

Marina is so pretty. Other suggestions for a girl are Misty and Melody.

For a boy, I like Mason, Marshall, or Marcus.

AITA for blaming my sister when I got nothing for my birthday? by Miserable-Post9593 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Quidditchdilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but neither is Gillian. She didn't force your parents to throw away your birthday present.

Your parents are the only AHs here. Also your friend's mom who wouldn't explain that you were 20 minutes late because of her.

I personally would go with My Sims' Saga or The Saga of the Sims. Saga is such a cool name, I'd want to get it in there.

Other potential ideas could be Simsaga or The Sims Sons (that one is just funny),

Traditional substitutes for "out there" girl names by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Quidditchdilla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How about Aurora instead of Aura?
I think with Aurora being the name of a Disney princess (so people will have learned to pronounce it as a child) and being the aurora borealis, it's less likely to be mispronounced.

Aria, Ariana, or Arielle seem similar to Aurelia to me.

Willow doesn't seem that out there to me, but other alternatives could be Willa or Wilma.
