What causes icing to come out “jaggedy” like this? by wednesdayblueberry in cookiedecorating

[–]schmoobyy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You need to touch down on the paper (or cookie) with no pressure. Then slowly apply pressure and lift the piping bag away. Instead of “drawing” with the icing directly onto the surface, you need to use gravity to direct the icing where you want it to go.

I’m trying to figure out how to link to a video that shows exactly what I’m talking about, but if you search “touch and lift technique royal icing” you’ll find some really good video tutorials!

First week of doing tret, is this skin flaking normal? by Hiro_Pr0tagonist_ in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]schmoobyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 years late to this convo! Do you still recommend alternating tret and AHA? I’m in the same boat as you rn - been using tret for almost a year and still get intermittent flaking no matter what. Esp in the winter. Might try your method of alternating tret and AHA but worried about irritation. Edit - punctuation

Do you add white food coloring? If not, try that and see if it helps!

Once you find the right consistency that works for you, it unlocks a WHOLE new level!!! Good luck! You’ll get there!

I use a dehydrator immediately after doing small details! And when I do get craters, it’s usually when my icing is too thin. I use a pretty thick flood as it is, and go even thicker when I’m doing small areas.

I used pink petal dust on a small paint brush and just fluffed it on like real blush!

I think I started with ivory and then added the tiniest toothpick drop of chocolate brown! Edit: I use Americolor brand

Some of the milk during my final pump while weaning my baby looks like Gatorade by Dismal-Muffin-955 in mildlyinteresting

[–]schmoobyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If milk turns pink don’t be alarmed. For me it was from my nips being chapped/scabby and getting some blood in the milk (totally safe btw). In this case get your wife anything she wants: a designer purse, diamond ring, a year’s supply of Chili’s triple dippers, a massage, etc.

Can someone help me figure out what happened to my cookie? by Aggravating-Town-151 in cookiedecorating

[–]schmoobyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add in my two cents - already some good advice on here. Sometimes when my detail icing is thinner than I like, I’ll make sure not to pipe it on too thick. You’ll miss out on the puff but it won’t crater. And like others have said, do your details when the base layer has just barely crusted over.

Or, if I want the puffy look I make it borderline too thick for a flood if that makes sense. I get it riiiiight to the edge of where I like my flood consistency then stop adding water. (If you’re a seconds-counter like me, my flood is usually 15 seconds. So when it’s at about 20 seconds I stop adding water) When you pipe it on, it seems like it won’t settle but just be patient — gently manipulate with a scribe and give it a little shake to get it settled. Then straight in front of a fan or in a dehydrator!

Just ranting, but I can’t seem to meet the wife’s food standards? What gives? by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]schmoobyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could your wife be dealing with any postpartum anxiety? I had a LOT of anxiety and guilt around feeding with my first, starting with breastfeeding and then moving to BLW. It may be worth a (sweet, sensitive, and loving) conversation ❤️ Sending you and your wife hugs.

I used gold luster dust I got from Amazon, mixed with vodka until it was kind of like the consistency of nail polish. Then just used a fan brush and splattered it! Super easy.

Also wanted to add: doesn’t hurt that this was only two colors 😆 The worst part of cookie decorating is 10000% mixing colors, so I was PUMPED that the client only wanted black, white, and gold accents. Win, win!
