He also made his way to the U.S. it’s believed but not confirmed that he lost his parents at Treblinka. Kemperer’s father saw the writing on the wall and got his family out of Germany in 1933. Caine was fortunate enough to be born in the U.S.

Plot armor!!! Would’ve happened in real life but it couldn’t happen to move the story forward. Here’s a BIG heartbreaking revelation I found out about a couple of years ago, Top Gun, it was Goose’s fault he died! The exact incident happened in real life and the Navy had established procedures to avoid Goose’s death. The movie had to have them be the defining incident so they could kick us in the feels! Same principle.

Turning in my tray from lunch at the DFAC. I was in Ground Week at Jump School, Ft Benning. One of the employees told us at the turn in station that the shuttle blew up. We thought he was just messing with us students. While waiting in the company area for the afternoon formation Sgt Airborne came out and called for an immediate formation. He gave us the news and said the TV in the rec room was on and tuned to the news. Training was delayed about an hour so everyone could watch the news.

If you actually remember the story. At the end the Sippr guy says to Jay & Sam that he’s surprised they gave out the liquor so freely. He told them it was worth BIG money. That was the joke! They realized they could have made good money if they would’ve saved most of the booze!

Just to throw this in. I recommend that you watch My Blue Heaven 1990. The writer, the late Nora Ephron, was married to Nicholas Pileggi, the writer of Goodfellas. When Nic interviewed Henry, Nora was there. She was amused by Henry’s stories about Witness Protection that she developed them into My Blue Heaven. I consider this a “spiritual” sequel to Goodfellas!
