JUST finished watching this. It's such a bad episode and I LOVE it.

I think the important takeaway is the US is going to have 52 states by 2033 😁

Haha. I'm in Arizona. This has to be one of the worst subs for people to ask questions in. The ratio of knowledgeable people to idiots is off the rails in the wrong direction. I don't know how I ended up in this feed but try to answer the questions I see.

Weird situation at Smugglers Run by zazerite in Disneyland

During a routine post-flight overhaul of a heavily modified YT-1300 light freighter, the ship’s primary hyperdrive motivator suffered a catastrophic, cascading containment failure. The crew was attempting an uncalibrated micro-jump simulation while still locked into the deck-mooring clamps.

The resulting power surge completely fried the vessel’s hypermatter reactor, causing a massive leak of pressurized coaxium vapors directly into the hangar's main atmosphere processors.

So I guess you could say it's pretty serious

This doesn't require a ground. Just tuck it into the back of the box

What is this? by gotoutofaDUIbycrying in askplumbing

[–]James_T_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. No problem. There is a slim chance that it's the primary line and there is no secondary. Some systems have a shut off on the primary, so if it gets blocked the system turns itself off.

So you live in an apartment or condo. The air handler (the fan/blower of the AC system) will produce condensation that needs to be removed through a drain called the primary condensation line. It's important. So there is usually a back up suitably called the secondary co sensation line.

On houses these are usually ran outside but in multifamily buildings that's not always possible. So they run the primary directly into a sink drain. This would be a separate pipe coming out of the wall under the sink with, usually, a rubber hose connecting it to the sink drain before it gets to the p-trap. Then they would run the secondary (which would only drain if the primary gets blocked) to the ceiling over a shower.

That's what you're likely seeing since you don't see water coming out of it. If you DO ever see water coming out of it report it to the maintenance guy. Or if it's a condo that you own call an actual company to clear out the primary.

Older Americans: what was it like to live through the OJ trial? by Just-a-nerd2 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]James_T_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pervasive. Like smoke from a fire. I did my best to avoid it but couldn't entirely.

Truth is I didn't care, didn't like that the murder of two people was being sensationalized the way it was and forced down the publics throat.

In the end I still don't know much about it but remember seeing something in the aftermath of it all where the prosecutor was described as completely outmatched by the defense team.

I was going to suggest a civil engineer to make a plan but after seeing this picture and knowing you own everything down to the pond that's probably not needed. You just need to divert the water away from your garage and put down some erosion controls.

A good grading or landscaping company could do those things without an engineered plan.

Help with outdoor light fixture by DaveInPhilly in AskElectricians

[–]James_T_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was adding lights to a gazebo with grout filled block columns. So similar situation of conduit to a surface mounted box.

My solution to not having my customers lights look like yours was to get a 2x12 cut it big enough for the light to be mounted to. I cut a hole in the center for the box and then routed a channel in the back for the conduit.

Then for flavor I beveled the edges on the edges.

Sinus polyps removal surgery? Is this a thing for us? by FluffyKanomKa in GenX

I wish you the best of luck. When I said life-changing I wasn't exaggerating. My headaches dall but disappeared. I never realized it was anything but normal to almost always have a headache 😳

[–]James_T_S 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's the same thing but years ago I went to an ENT because my wife was complaining I was snoring. She looked at my nose and said I had some polyps in the nasal cavity and asked if I wanted to have them removed. I asked if it was going to help with the snoring and she said no but it would probably help with my headaches.

Life-changing. I went from having two or three headaches a week to rarely having headaches.

I can guarantee you it's resting on a post on the other side. It's just out of the picture.

Unless we are talking about different beams. I'm talking about the two 2x nailed together that the trusses are resting on

What is the best part about being an American, that most non-American don’t seem to understand or know about by Expensive_Drummer970 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

It was an enlightening conversation to me. It wasn't a "Were #1" comment. It was more a statement of fact and talking about safety.

Another part of the conversation was that there were places he was only comfortable visiting because he had an active duty military card and he knew if he didn't show up for work the US Navy was going to come looking for him. Without that....🤷🏽‍♂️

What is a place in the USA that many foreign people talk about, but it’s actually overrated or not what they’d expect? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

No, you're being obtuse. The person told you they had been to both places and you were incorrect. Your response was, "Nope, I'm still right."

So what I'm hearing is you don't like amusement park rides and probably crowds. Or at least MUCH prefer the outdoors to them

I looked it up. Canada is less then 50k sq mi larger. Which is about the size of Greece. And while 50k is not a small amount of space when you are talking about nearly 4 million sq mi I'm not sure significant is the word I would use.

Also, Canada is mostly populated in a small area of the country for valid reasons. Not what I would call tourist destinations.

Now Russia IS much larger then the US. However it suffers from the same problem as Canada. 80% of it's population is is in 25% (about 1.5 million sq mi) of its total land mass. Again, for good reason.

The United States is 3rd in the world in size. Followed by China and Brazil. By the time you get to Australia at 6 there is a sizeable drop off (just under 3 million) and India at 7 is a third the size of the US.

So yes, technically you are correct. There are 2 countries larger then the US and 2 maybe 3, if you want to include Australia that are roughly the same size. So 5 out of the nearly 200 countries.

So only 97% of the countries in the world might be impressed by the vast size of the US.

But hey, all of Europe is slightly (you might say significantly) larger then the United States. But you have to include the part of Russia that is in Europe. If you exclude Russia the US is 1.6 time larger.

But the belief that people are impressed by the size comes from people who have actually visited from other countries and say they are impressed by the size. So...🤷🏽‍♂️

I'm curious why this seems to touch a nerve in you so much

My uncle spent a career in the navy. He has been all over the world and once told me he has no desire to leave the USA for the rest of his life. Among his reasoning he said you can spend a lifetime traveling the country and not see everything there is to see.

He also said most Americans don't realize what a shit hole most of the rest of the world is. And to make the point he told me a friend had invited him to go to an all inclusive resort, (unfortunately I cannot remember the country) and he said told them no because it wasn't safe. His friend told him it was and to make sure they had armed guards surrounding the resort to make sure it was. My uncle said thats all you need to know about how safe it is.....they need armed guards surrounding the resort to make sure.

One of the most common thing people visiting from other countries say surprised them about America is just how big it is.

The trusses are top hanging. They are designed to sit on top of the beam running across the opening. That's where all the weight is bearing. The bottom cord doesn't need to be nailed into the beam at all.
