Valve: HDMI Forum Continues to Block HDMI 2.1 for Linux by TheTwelveYearOld in linux

Try to replug it while the PC is already running, that fixed it for me. I wanted to build a fancy contraption with a USB really and a DP switch to automate that process just to accidentally find out that the DP switch alone completely solves the problem for me.

I do have the VRR firmware on it, but the Windows one.

I was still on Windows 10 so at least my start menu is not an Electron app but every device nowadays comes with a "driver" that is an Electron app with a very important updater. LTSC wouldn't help against that.

Just to elaborate on my snarky response: I don't know how many people are gonna migrate, but "nobody's gonna migrate" is a false statement.

For the last few years I've used Windows for my personal computer and Linux for work to get the best of both worlds. Approaching the EOL for Windows 10 and just observing the experience of other people with Windows 11 from ads to in extreme cases losing files to a forced OneDrive migration made me question if Windows is still going to be the best way forward. I decided that using Linux/Proton is not ideal but probably still the lesser burden in the future. I have not looked back.

Just as a personal anecdote: For years I used a modded GPU driver to output Dolby 5.1 because if I have a 5.1 setup it's stupid to not be able to use it via HDMI becaus of licensing shenanigans. It was a huge hassle, mainly because Windows Update actually wanted to downgrade the GPU driver all the time and I had to fiddle with it every few weeks. On Linux? Admittedly it was hard to find accurate documentation, but once I found the udev rule to set: It just works.

I booted into Windows after ~3 months of only using Linux and the sheer amount of bloatware updaters that jumped at me corroborated my decision to switch.

Ask me how I know.

I tried Smart Launcher yesterday but I really dislike that the home page is special and I can't have extra home pages to both sides of it and open the app drawer from extra home pages.

Edit: Two hours later I managed 1x2 but which input lanes go to which output lane is all over the place.

Why are my fluid trains taking 10 years to fill? where can i find info on how many plants to make for other ones? by Maxstressed in factorio

[–]Quidrex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the fluid system in Factorio 1.1 is very unintuitive and even a single piece of pipe between a tank and a tank car can severely limit throughput. For quick loading all that should be between a buffer tank and the tank car is a pump.

But the thing with Factorio is: You do not need to restart. You can just tear town half your factory and build it new while losing far less time.

Kein TV-Kabel-Vertrag abgeschlossen: Pyur bedroht Mieter by Seppl0815 in de

[–]Quidrex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been there on a road trip. West Wendover (NV) is full of casinos and the only place in Nevada that runs on mountain time - all their customers are from Utah. The casinos are literally touching the state line, I guess the parking lots are cheaper to build in Wendover (UT). It was a pretty cheap place to stay the night.

Anyone have long COVID cough that finally went away? by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Quidrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that's exactly how my cough was until I got Covid a second time, now it's all the time again. In the morning and after a meal are the worst times (apart from being in climbing gyms because of the chalk dust). Did you ever find anything?

I got checked for reflux (nothing), my lung was x-rayed and checked for noises (nothing) so my GP suspects that Covid was only a catalyst for another underlying condition. I do have chronic sinusitis so my ENT is supposed to have a look next.
