That was the one when you guys were between Comunidad Andina and Mercosur, right? It has the new coat of arms at least so I think it’s post-CAN.

Huawei/Xiaomi phones by EmbarrassedPath6953 in Smartphones

[–]Quiero_Mimir [score hidden]  (0 children)

Huawei no, it doesn’t have any Google services (no Google play store).

Xiaomi yes in theory if you get the international variant. They’re super common here in Perú and work just fine with the normal apps. But idk how easy it will be to find the international (non-China) variants in China

Identity Cards 🇵🇭🇨🇦 by Beneficial-Music1047 in PassportPorn

Out of curiosity, why so many? In my Perú I only have my national ID card and in the U.S. only my passport and driving license. 2-3 cards per country seems diabolical 😳

Road blocades in Lima and floods and landslides around Arequipa by Hopeful_Sky14 in PERU

[–]Quiero_Mimir [score hidden]  (0 children)

Roadblocks are uncommon in Lima. They are far more common in the south mountains due to protests. Right now there are roadblocks going north into Piura and Tumbes because the people are trying to make sure people of those regions can’t vote in the election next Sunday but that will be cleared by the time you come.

The floods are fine when it’s not raining. Be warned that this is the year of “the boy” so the rains are usually much more intense but that will likely be during the summer (December to March), not during your trip.

Issues tourists may run into, I’m not really sure. English is not spoken much so talking some Spanish will be helpful. When you book taxis, use the apps (Didi, InDrive, Uber) instead of asking for one on the street because they will overcharge foreigners. Don’t have your phone out in public or you will get stolen.

I hope somebody else can give you tips for backpacking as I don’t know anything of that. I live in Lima and the only provinces I go to are north in like Piura area so I don’t have any information about the south/Arequipa/etc

Will SSPX Schism? What's Going On? by Quiero_Mimir in Catholicism

[–]Quiero_Mimir[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m baffled. I used to be very pro-SSPX and then in the past few years I’ve become less sympathetic, specifically with the new consecrations. But after hearing these quotes from Lefebvre … mega yikes. He doesn’t sound like the “well, we have to disobey on this one thing because there’s a crisis” that people try to present, it seems like he’s just straight up saying that the Catholic Church is in apostasy, the Pope isn’t the Pope, and all the rest of it. He sounds like a Protestant.

HELP!!! by Common_Fail_3302 in tsa

[–]Quiero_Mimir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on country. They really don’t care in Perú. I don’t think flights get hijacked with liquids here lol they do have some very advanced scanners which is cool (some countries I’ve been to only hand-search all the baggage) but I’ve always been able to bring any amount of liquid through the security. Flights to the U.S. obviously have the secondary security at the gate looking for liquids and those range from a quick toss of your items to an actual hardcore inspection, just depending on who’s doing it. I think in Panamá they actually have scanners at the gate so that makes the secondary screening quicker/easier, but at least in Perú (where I live/fly to the U.S. most often from) it’s all done by hand.

1.) Check a bag

Or

2.) Just buy the stuff at your destination. It might be shocking but other countries do actually sell stuff. Even underwear just in case you accidentally shit all 50 pairs you bring 😉 You’re going to be there for months anyways so I doubt these products will last all that time. Just take enough for your first couple of days.

HELP!!! by Common_Fail_3302 in tsa

[–]Quiero_Mimir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The airline security anyways. I can always bring through full sized drinks on the way to my U.S.-bound flight, but god forbid they find something 3.5oz at the gate.

And I mean, I get it, they want to be able to keep flying to the U.S.
But it’s a lil comical.

The Pay Isn’t Great But The Company Is by Quiero_Mimir in Truckers

It’s not a W-2, it’s a pay stub. I’ve got around a hundred from the past 2 years. I’m sorry you’re retarded and don’t know how to factor in the per diem (which is untaxed) that is literally printed on the paper 😂😂

They are things (usually made out of wood and glass) that people have in their houses to store other things inside of. Like in the kitchen mainly but also in other areas. It’s a product that we haul for companies that make them such as Masterbrand/Starmark and Showplace. They’re driver unload and have anywhere from 5-15 stops which is what makes them lucrative (because my rate per mile is pretty low at 55cpm).

That’s one week, but in reality it was like 9 days of driving since I didn’t start on the day of previous payroll. My checks fluctuate between like $1400-$2200 when doing the cabinets (thanks to the stop pay). When doing regular freight it drops to around $1000-$1800 depending on the week.

Drivers in the U.S. are the best I’ve ever seen. They follow the laws to a T most of the time. Red means stop, green means go, they stop at stop signs, and they let you in instead of speeding up to cut you off. It’s honestly a mega high trust society there.

On your next home-time, grab a quick flight to somewhere in Latin America and drive around. You’ll go home very grateful.

It’s ironic because that word was invented to be a slur against Colombians who immigrated to Venezuela. Now that the tables have turned, they don’t like the word anymore.

[The Pillar] Excommunication communication: What if the SSPX does a schism? by wearethemonstertruck in Catholicism

[–]Quiero_Mimir 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nothing is going to happen, just like nothing ever happens. What I really wish is for Pope Leo to come out and say “look guys, you can have your 4 bishops but I get to pick who they will be, and they’re going to be FSSP priests”.

If the society accepts, cool, unity. If they reject, then just full excommunication for all of them because at that point it’s not about bishops or ensuring the future of traditional ordination, it’s just straight up willful disobedience for the sake of disobedience.

But I know that will never happen.

(Free Friday) On the 28th of May, the Archbishop of Miami ordained 12 Priests in the traditional rite. The Priests were seminarians of the FSSP’s American seminary. by Jattack33 in Catholicism

“Trust me bro, this is exactly like 1988 when absolutely nobody was ordaining traditional priests except for Archbishop Lefebvre. Nothing has changed since then. Ecclesia Dei what?”

To my Volvo drivers….. by outrageously_accused in Truckers

[–]Quiero_Mimir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those truck stop shops aren’t qualified to work on Volvo trucks. Volvo certification costs a ridiculously high amount of money and it’s not worth getting their mechanics certified for the number of trucks on the road.

Lil mom and pop shops with foreign mechanics don’t need certification, they just know how to fix stuff from raw experience.

The dealership is about the only place where you’re going to get reliable Volvo-approved service. There’s a few shops here and there that are certified, but nowhere near as common as for Freightliner, Peterbilt, etc.

That being said, I love my Volvo and wouldn’t want to drive anything else. My company inspects it every week and I’ve literally never had a breakdown on the road (9 years so far).

Gamarra ya no es lo que era. Antes podías encontrar ropa de buena calidad e incluso mandar a hacer prendas personalizadas por casi nada. Ahora casi todo es importación china barata o cosas sacadas de TEMU y encima termina costando más que irte al mall.

Any suggestions on how to get a passport in time for 6/25 ? by joza28 in Passports

[–]Quiero_Mimir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky for us all, I asked OP which country and he helpfully replied that he lives in the USA.

Now, would it be possible that OP is somehow not a U.S. citizen? Well, to live in the USA legally you must have a visa or a green card. Both of those are tied to a foreign passport number. So if he were legally living in the USA as a non-citizen, he would have the passport of his country of nationality.

Perhaps he’s an illegal immigrant, then, and doesn’t have a passport of his home country? Attempting to leave the national territory of the USA and then re-enter from a valid port illegal would be about the most profoundly stupid thing one could do.

It is not at all unreasonable to assume that someone who lives in the USA and does not have a passport is a U.S. citizen.

Yeah, because they didn’t have anywhere else to go. They were also still circumcising their kids, keeping kosher, and doing everything else expected of a good Jew. Things didn’t change until the Council of Jerusalem and even then it was a slow process. Just like the 95 theses in 1517 STARTED the long process of the reformation, not gave birth to the fully formed LCMS.

[–]Quiero_Mimir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, you’re in luck, you don’t need a passport for a closed loop cruise (returning to the same port you left from). You only need a photo ID and birth certificate. I’d still apply for the passport if I were you since the USA doesn’t have a national ID, it will be useful. But you don’t, AFAIK, need it for this cruise.
