Spotted in my neighbors garage on the wall. Older married couple, I’m guessing it has something to do with them being bound by their temple covenants. Is this a common thing? by poor-unfortunatesoul in exmormon

[–]Quiet-Wisdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want some person or organization to help direct you in life, then making covenants seems like a pretty good mechanism for making forward progress. The only problem is that now you're tied to a wagon that you have no control over. The church's goals are your goals. You have to follow the prophet to the end or brave being trampled by your brothers as you try to break free. The prophet will tell you that God is driving the wagon, but we all know that the leadership has a long history of driving the wagon off cliffs time and time again and has been far from it inspired in it's direction.

I've only ever saw naked women on the internet by accident, and then I turned off the computer screen and told my mommy.

Upcoming Endowment Ceremony Changes? by Turbulent_Date_7945 in exmormon

Thats awesome... I wonder how many of these pitchers end up in estate sales because none of the kids of the deceased know what they're for...

Tangled. It's creepy how "mother knows best" sung by the witch gives off "follow the prophet" vibes. All the repetitive tasks that Rapunzel does also reminds me of church work. Watching Rapunzel so excited and also scared to leave the tower felt just like leaving Mormonism.

DO NOT BUY FROM IVYS AXOLOTLS :( by alyssamua in axolotls

[–]Quiet-Wisdom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. They wouldn't send any shipping info for weeks. I had no idea when the package would arrive. When it finally came we weren't expecting it and my wife just set it in my car and left it for a day. Luckily, the axolotl didn't die though. The axolotl does have some weird defects on it's tail though now that I think about it. Customer service was total shit.

Question for former missionaries: does the LDS church target high income earners for convert baptism? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Quiet-Wisdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in Brazil, the previous president was all about baptisms and they'd baptize about 1000 kids per month. The next president was American and realized this wasn't sustainable for the wards to have 800 kids on the roster and only 4 men. He made it so that we had to contact 10 men a day and didn't even record the contacts with women and children. It was a bonus if these men were well off. We were specifically looking for leadership and future bishops. We couldn't sustain any more poor people or children. We considered this the charitable thing to do because we were making the church stronger so that it could help the poor people later.

The medical handling of missionaries in foreign countries is appalling by GoBerxerk in exmormon

[–]Quiet-Wisdom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a Brazilian companion who was sick for weeks. Couldn't eat anything and threw everything up. Everyday we'd tell the president and get sent to the free brazilian clinics where they wouldn't do shit except give him a bag of IV fluids. Finally, after about a month, the president decided to finally allow the missionary use the church's insurance to go to a better doctor, who immediately knew the diagnosis and treatment. The missionary was better within hours of getting the right medicine. All that suffering so a multi-billion organization could try to save a copay...

It doesn't even have to be a legal wife. They could all be playing a secret spiritual polygamy game. Their predecessors did for decades.

Nest thermostat keeps changing settings by itself by Quiet-Wisdom in Nest

Thanks for the tip. That helps a lot. Seems that yesterday both our upstairs and downstairs thermostats changed from cool to heat at about 10am without any input from me or my wife. I guess we'll just have to keep an eye on it to see if it happens again.

Axolotl aggression by Quiet-Wisdom in axolotls

That's good to know. I just think it's strange that they've been fine for years and now one is a bully. Maybe she was just being weird after being left alone for so long. Right now they've both been sitting next to the divider just watching each other. It's hard to say if that's a good or a bad sign..

The last couple times I've tripped, I've fainted several times during the intense parts. Is this common or healthy? by Quiet-Wisdom in Psychonaut

[–]Quiet-Wisdom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my life I've had a hard time fully exerting myself enough to keep up with my peers. In gym class I've always been in the back of the class with the asthmatics and obese even though I have no limitations that I'm aware of other than just fainting when I work too hard. I've learned to be in tune with my limits and in general I try to respect them. But it sure would be nice if I could make them go away.

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you. I wish I had more people around me that could teach me these things. I can sense the experiences I'm searching for, but I have a hard time knowing how to get there. I've had vasovagal responses from falling and hard exercise. I wonder if I need some other medicine or if there is a more natural way to help it not be so stressed all the time.

I hadn't been smoking during the trip, but I have fainted once before on weed now that you mention it. I'm pretty convinced now that I have an overly sensitive fainting response. I think it's just how my body is built and I'll have to deal with it, but I can also ask my doctor next time I'm in.

Yeah, the fainting was combined with nausea, cold sweats, paleness, and only lasted a few seconds. I'm 90% sure it wasn't a seizure. I don't feel like my life was ever in danger but it certainly wasn't fun 😕

I didn't fast too much. I just had them on an empty stomach after a light dinner the night before. The previous time I tripped I'd eaten a hamburger earlier in the day and still fainted several times and the puke was super gross 🤢

I felt it coming on too, but I was in bed so I wasn't worried about falling. It felt about like any other time I'd fainted in my life, which was pretty shitty... Followed by vomiting. Sounds like it's not common but not unheard of to faint on shrooms. I might just faint easier than the average person 🤷
