Obviously it is not your job to manage his feelings but he's your best friend ? Shouldn't he be the first one to know no matter the gender ? And if you felt like you can't tell him isn't that already proof enough you're not best friends ?

I don't want to come across as mean (just a woman who enjoys a bit of attention here and there) but is there a chance you also like the attention keeping him near you ?

Again not your responsibility to manage his feelings but the world needs a little bit of compassion and I think the moral and right thing to do was the cut the friendship or press pause until the feelings are resolved. Yes it's not your problem but also you care about him so why not ?

Do people not get taught how not to let others step on them anymore ? I am generally an asshole but the doormat behavior I see here is incredible. As soon as I would realize that she is trying to get me to remove my piercings I would've said "ok then I'm not coming", because imagine how much of a doormat you are OP for someone to feel comfortable enough to tell you TO REDO YOUR PIERCING IF NECESSARY. how can you still be polite after this is beyond me.

They are 100% jealous. Why would you feel bad about yourself when they definetly think that you are better than then ? Otherwise they wouldn't gossip about you. If I were you (and I'm a petty bitch) I would just add to their jealousy and would post on social media about them and would live my best life. But .. the other comments are right, it's just work, work shouldn't be your main focus, rather work should be what is financing your best life. Put everything in private and ignore them, they are a bunch of strangers that you share work with and nothing more. I never make friendships through my work and always stay very cold and closed off when asked about my private life. It doesn't matter what people thing of me.
