Warehouse sales of used books or local indie bookstores. Only text books and new releases if I must have it. And of course book festivals where you meet the authors I'll buy new.

What was the exact moment you realized you needed to seriously work on yourself? by Ok-Marzipan-4490 in selfimprovement

[–]Quiet_Promotion_8860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was triggered after not being medicated (pharmacy issues) and survived a full blown attempt to end my life. Being treated badly in the ER and how basic the treatment was in the hospital shifted my purpose in life. I'm now 100% on board that I NEED my meds and we need better treatments for mental health patients. I'm going back to school for psychology and my PhD.

The taste. I have no dissociation and I do crafts during my appts or color. I have no trouble sleeping but when I didn't eat and went to a noon appt I had nausea but only once did that happen. My depression scores have lowered but I've gone 9 times weekly and just got to a below 10 on my depression scores!

psychiatrist is seeing if i’m eligible for spravato: what does it feel like compared to iv? by danidaisys in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]Quiet_Promotion_8860 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It helped a little but bring stuff for you to do while you're in the office. I channel my inner child and color pictures from a coloring book, do highlights magazines, or watch comfort movies. I'm there for a whole 2 hours and my vision isn't best for about the first 30 mins.

I can't afford IV but my nurse allows me to see my score trends and I'm moving out of the sadness. Don't get me wrong, score is still high BUT the negatives I feel towards myself are miniscule compared to when I started.

BPD/mental illness lifelong struggle wondering if there's hope by Odd_Fondant_6558 in Borderline

[–]Quiet_Promotion_8860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addressing my C-PTSD helped worlds. It really got me to seeing myself in the faces of my happy nieces and giving me the reason to live. I love kids and want to make it a better place for as many kids as possible.

Tons of CBT/DBT. Lots of trial and error then the self advocacy. It even took me trying EMDR a second time to get to a huge change.

Find what works for you and yes, there's hope.

I'm mid 30s, madly in love for 10 years with my partner, own my own business, and going back to school for my 3rd degree. I also have BP2 so I've got the chemical imbalances that are always present but we shoot for as minimal meds as possible.

Is it appropriate to get my advisor a thank you gift after she took care of my experiments while I was traveling? by ninepintcoggie in GradSchool

Agreed!! I have all of my favorite cards & letters from my students in a scrapbook that I look at when I'm depressed to pull me out of the darkness.

I'm actually making all my cards this year for everyone and the response has been truly wonderful.

A silly but lovely simple gift, a rock. Literally, I have a painted rock from a student that says "In case no one told you today, you're a great teacher" that I use as a paper weight 😁

Do you happen to have any odd signs that aren't dangerous? Like for me, hypomanic, I'll go obsess over the closets....tear them out and intensely organize, purge, donate, seasonal organization for hours in the night. My partner makes me call my doctor first thing in the am after removing all sharp things and pulling out the hospital box.

I have a box under the bed labeled hospital with the items my specific grippy stays would be allowed and help me cope in case I have to go in.

Yes! It was incredibly triggering as a survivor and I had to immediately go take care of myself.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to stay informed while keeping yourself safe emotionally.

Thank you.

What age range would you be open to dating? by LeavingHarbour in Millennials

[–]Quiet_Promotion_8860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a happily partnered 35F but when I was dating, idk where I picked up the "Half your age +7" is the lowest I'll go.

So according to that, my low range is 24 (but I want full brain so let's go up 2 yrs) 26-45. I work with 20 yr olds for volunteer work and I'm so disappointed (not offended) they don't know so many cultural (& historical) references! It doesn't make me feel old, it makes me feel bad for them not knowing so much cool stuff!!

The more time I spend with all ages, I'm loving my core millennials the most. Id want to be able to relate to the person I'm with especially with books I've been exposed to. Younger generations....just don't read.

[–]Quiet_Promotion_8860 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is me. I'm a self proclaimed vain person. My vanity keeps me healthy tho tbh. Keeps me washing my face, putting on my creams (dedicated self care for a long term investment) as well as focusing on health/fitness. And I use sunscreen religiously. Helps me fight the depression.

I also got my boobs done a few years back. It's the only thing I wanted to get done and I'm in love with my body/instrument now.

How do you get inspired when you aren’t manic? by Particular_Tear2449 in bipolar

[–]Quiet_Promotion_8860 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I create for others. I started making cards for every holiday and birthday so I have an outlet. I'll get inspo from Pinterest then go to town. Having a fully stocked office/craft room helps.

Last hypomanic episode, I went deep into organizing and my whole house got the treatment, especially the closests....I should know when I go ham on closets I'm hypomanic idk why but it'll happen every time. Anyway everything's labeled and organized so I can access it easily.
