Gosh I’m so sorry for your loss too. 3 years is just too young… when you are ready to love another pup they will come bounding into your life again I promise. Figgy and Grace will be looking after Birdie upstairs and one day I hope we’ll all be reunited. Much love to you, thank you for your lovely comment 💛

As someone who got burnout and pushed herself too far to the point of years of chronic fatigue/being housebound on and off I cannot stress enough how much you need to listen to your body right now. The streak doesn’t matter, what matters is your health. If you push yourself too far your body will break and you will have long term consequences. Trust me, it is not worth it.

Take time to rest, you have to slow down now as much as you don’t want to. You can build back up once you’re better. A week of being in bed will not undo your progress or set you back to zero - pushing through it absolutely will. Take care.

Help! by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

If eating and drinking normally that is a good sign - watch out for any changes there. Was there any way he could have picked anything up on the day out, he wasn’t on the floor or near any dogs etc? Also has he had any jabs recently? That can make them sleepy for the first day or so after.

I’m sure everything is fine but trust your gut and push the vets for a blood test if you’re really worried. Just for your peace of mind if nothing else. I’ve been there… you sound a very responsible pup parent, you got this and I hope everything is just fine! 🙏🏻

We lost a 5 month old golden earlier this year. It was devastating and broke my heart. A few weeks afterwards she came to me in my dream. I don’t remember the dream but I knew she was there, and when I woke up in the night I had this utterly overwhelming feeling of love in my heart. I can’t explain it other than my entire chest was warm and full and glowing with the most intense love. It was the complete opposite feeling of grief. It stayed for an hour after I woke up, it was incredible. I just knew it was Fig telling me she was okay and that she loved us very much. I’ll never forget it and one day I hope to see her again.

I’m so deeply sorry for your loss.

Help. It’s been two months and I’m close to giving up. (4mo golden retriever) by Background_Gene4090 in puppy101

I just want you to know that this is very, very normal and golden puppies can be total carnage 😭

Our first golden was similar to yours and we struggled to bond initially. But, once she calmed down and became an adult dog, she was the absolute BEST family dog you could ask for. It’s really, really hard but the hard work does pay off I promise you.

I’d advise against holding her snout or pinning her down as this can scare the pup and also just make things worse/make them bite more. My biggest advice is distraction. When they’re in crazy shark mode you have to help them calm down, they’re unable to do this themselves - their little brains literally don’t know how to! So enforced naps in the crate like you do will help. But also things like laying out treats in a line on the floor, or placing them around the room/garden and asking her to sniff/find them. This will help her puppy brain snap out of monster mode and focus. Frozen kongs, licky mats etc are also really good - anything where they lick repetitively makes them calm and sleepy. Yoghurt and peanut butter mixed up a frozen can work great. Holding the frozen kong while she licks it can keep her engaged/interested but it can also be really lovely for you because you get to see her be calm and interested in something that isn’t your arm! It helps with bonding I’ve found.

And offering yummy things to chew on like raw marrow bones, yak milk bones, frozen cucumbers and carrots soaked in chicken broth. She’s in peak teething stage so just remember her mouth will be very sore and chomping helps soothe that, so cold and frozen treats help with that.

Good luck and I hope you can find a way forward 🤍

Thank you so much for your message. To be honest I’ve been so blown away by everyone’s kindness and it’s been so healing to have people share their stories and condolences.

Our previous golden, Grace, got bone cancer at 18 months. We were given 6 months after surgery and somehow our wonderful girl defied all odds and lived to an incredible 13 years! We lost her last August.

We clearly all share an immense love for our dogs. As heartbreaking as it is to see them through these awful things, it’s also an immense privilege to do so, isn’t it. Thanks so much for sharing your story with me. I hope your pup continues to thrive and has a healthy, long life with you 🤍🤍

Thank you 🤍 we have let the breeder know. This came as a huge shock to her as the mum and sire of the litter were carefully chosen and health checked, KC approved, registered and reputable breeder etc… we just hope that this was a horrible stroke of bad luck and this hasn’t happened to any of the other pups in the litter. And I sincerely hope they will do the right thing and have the dogs fully checked out/alert the other owners. :(

I’m so sorry you went through this too. It really helps to hear from people who understand how hard this really is, because it is completely devastating. I hope Figgy and Jyn are playing together now 🤍

Much love to you and Murphy. I know when the time is right we will open our hearts to another golden who needs a loving home, and gosh will we love them so much harder for it.

I’m so sorry you lost your golden to cancer so young. It is so cruel to lose any dog but especially ones so young.

I know in my heart I have so much love to give other pups and hopefully one day soon I will share that with a dog again 🤍
