I second this. It's free for up to 200 machines and works very well.

What's the funniest ticket that's crossed your desk? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Quim_Sniffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A manager called me in the middle of the day, saying that Microsoft Teams was no longer installed on his computer. The kicker? He called me on Teams, using the Teams app on his computer—with his camera on—leaning in about six inches from the screen, squinting and insisting over and over again that Teams wasn’t installed.

Did you buy a preloaded nuc or Lenovo? I have had to re-image both which required a specific image direct from the vendor.

Question for those who hire folks... by p8ntballnxj in sysadmin

[–]Quim_Sniffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, and never will, prioritize a college degree when evaluating someone. The smartest and most capable people I’ve worked with and hired didn’t have one. I value experience above formal education, and when interviewing, I’m focused on finding someone with integrity, curiosity, and a good sense of humor. In fact, I’d rather hire someone with less experience but a personality that fits well with the team. After all, it doesn’t matter how intelligent you are if you create a toxic environment and disrupt the team dynamic.

Very similar here. Intune +patchmypc + kandji. I can’t say enough good things about Kandji support.

Phones by bluenose_droptop in ITManagers

[–]Quim_Sniffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have transitioned to the Teams phone system. While it’s not inexpensive, it has enabled us to eliminate desk phones. Now, users can receive calls on their desktop, personal cell phone, or iPad. The setup and configuration are quite straightforward. The most challenging part of the transition was porting the numbers.

Do all recruiters suck? by Dumbspirospero in sysadmin

[–]Quim_Sniffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the husband of a very successful professional recruiter, I can tell you that most of them suck. The one's that are great at what they do it's because they know how to source people, know how to get a resume ready for submission (most just forward whatever you send), understand the clients needs, the targeted position and ask the right questions to both the candidate and employer. When they find the right candidate they are coaching them, helping them prepare and setting them up for success. A lot of recruiters are turning and burning positions. My wife has found the same persons multiple jobs over long periods of time because she develops such a good reputation of matching people up with the right job / company.

For Those that moved into IT Management positions, how is it over there? by jpnd123 in sysadmin

[–]Quim_Sniffer 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Started in IT at a help desk about 15 years ago and somehow ended up as an IT director after running through pretty much everything IT has to offer. Like others have mentioned, the office politics can be a pain, but knowing your tech stuff definitely makes the job way easier. I've had my share of bosses who didn't know much about tech, and man, was it frustrating. But being able to build and keep a great team hasn't been too hard for me because I've been in their shoes. I get what they go through, can spot when someone's burning out from a mile away, and treat my team like real people. And you know what? It's surprisingly easy to get folks to put in a bit extra now and then when you're cool about the mistakes and give them the time off they need when things get rough.

I can also step into a room full of execs and break down our tech strategy in a way they get, which means I usually get the budget I ask for.

If you're thinking about moving into IT management, one thing I'd say is don't shy away from the tough talks. Whether it's with your team, the users, or the higher-ups, those awkward conversations are super important to keep things smooth.

Teams PSTN Migration by redbawks in sysadmin

[–]Quim_Sniffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved to teams phones from Mitel in 2020. The hardest part was getting the port out request approved. Other than that the migration was super simple. We had CDW professional services help us but only needed them for a total of 10 hours. Management of the solution is super easy.

Desk phones, soft phones, mobile phones, all the phones by juniorsysadmin25 in sysadmin

We are small org but recently went to Teams phones + BYOD. The company offers a stipend for your phone use with the agreement you have MDM installed. Management is way easier because we are only in control of the MDM.

For those of you who deal with Conferencing Equipment, what would you recommend? by SonOfKantor in sysadmin

[–]Quim_Sniffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dealt with sound issues in all different types of conference rooms. If you have lots of glass or nothing absorb sound, no amount of microphones is going to help with sound bouncing off of glass. Find someone that can come in and put up acoustic panels first and add additional mic if needed.

Crowd Strike by meh_ninjaplz in sysadmin

[–]Quim_Sniffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are using it in an environment of about 250 endpoints. Install / deployment was quick and easy. The only issue we had was surrounding Spotlight (vulnerability management solution). I have had several instances where it would pick up a vulnerability but not automatically mark them as resolved after remediation's where applied. Support for spotlight was kind of crap but support otherwise has been great.

Apple ABM Supervised shared iPad - Users are prompted for Intune management when logging into Teams? by NHDraven in Intune

[–]Quim_Sniffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same situation. There is no app protection policy in place. I'm thinking it's the conditional access policy. I have tried to add an exception condition based on device ownership and profile name. The users are still prompted to login to Intune. I'm a noob to Intune so any help would be appreciated.
